Second-string Center Could Be Our Achilles Heel

When we say, "line calls" we are not talking about the offensive lines positioning.
We are referring to blitzer's being picked up, (primarily) and the person making the line calls is reassigning the blocking scheme.

Most of the time it is done by the Center because the Quarterback is calling the play and maybe even changing the play with an audible.
That's why you see the Center pointing at a certain player and yelling (for example) "57"!
He is letting the Tackles and Guards, (and Runningbacks and Tight end and even Receivers) who are often in a three-point stance and not able to see what's going on as well) that a player is approaching the line of scrimmage and appears to be blitzing so look out for this guy.

No way McVay makes line calls because as I pointed out they turn the quarterback's helmet speakers off 15 seconds before the play clock expires and the defense knows this so that's when they make their shift to try to throw the offensive lineman off.

New Rams rookies jersey numbers!

Or Kenny Britts? Haha
How does Reynolds get 9?

The rules say 10-19 and 80-89 for WRs, but they can wear 1-9 preseason. In this case, all of the regular season numbers were taken or retired before they got to Reynolds. If any become available for the regular season, which is likely once cuts are made, he'll have to change numbers or get league permission to stay in #9.

BTW, forget Pettis and Britt. Number 18 will always be Roman Gabriel to me.

UDFA QB Jerod Evans would give the Rams their own developmental signal-caller behind Jared Goff

very funny @Corbin

Stop watching so much Agents of Shield.......

As for Evans....Hell to the yeah we need another camp arm...personally, I'm not sold on Mannion....I love scrambling QB's....the one's where if the plays not working...he can still move the stix....figure out reading defenses a few years later....I'm still surprise Logan Thomas didn't get a shot somewhere....Those Virgina Tech players are pretty sharp. I wished we had grabbed a safety this draft in the 2nd round (or that damn Lamp!)..then grabed that #7 TE from Va. Tech in the 4th...oh well...
They had a really good wr from Va. Tech...think he went in the 7th round....I wonder, what's wrong with Tech players??? They used to have some good DB's

I'm wondering....are we like...low key tanking to get Darnold in 2018????? Some of these moves...old linemen FAs....some questionable selections...how are we gonna sign all the players in their last years????

Alden Gonzalez Recaps the Rams Draft –Audio

The sheer reasonableness of this man's analysis.... it's insulting to anyone who posts on a message board regularly!

Really, he's spot on in saying that: expecting any WR to start ahead of Austin and Woods is akin to expecting to win the lottery. It does seem like the likely best case scenario is that Kupp was underdrafted and his smarts allow him to win the slot job over Cooper, making him a dangerous weapon on option routes and crossing routes under the coverage becoming a huge security blanket for Goff.

I actually have more confidence in Kupp being a bigger difference maker early than Everett just because of how much the coaching staff raved about his smarts.

Another best case scenario seems to me that Everett masters the seam and post routes early (I think it's asking a lot for him to do more than that) and at least provides us with a weapon in that arena (also being able to run off coverage for that slot receiver running option and crossing routes).

In each of these cases, even if Kupp or Everett's production isn't all-pro worthy, the could go a long way in reducing the amount of double coverage that Austin receives. The boy can't do jack when double covered and unfortunately when double coverage shifted to Britt last year, the lack of protection, scheme breakdowns, drops and poor QB play kept the Rams from exploiting Austin in single coverage. And well, he's just Austin. Ugh.

Woods? Woods will run off coverage too but more likey will be used for out routes, deep ins and comebacks. Hmmm... deeps ins with Kupp running underneath. Hi-lo concepts that make a QBs job easier.... I'm starting to salivate guys.

PFF recaps NFC West Draft ...

We just have to be hopeful that McSnead are right about the OL with passing on Lamp, if not that is going to be seen as a huge blunder down the road.
McVay said he listened to Kromer's assessment of our O-line talent, coming into the Draft and after FA, and said Kromer felt he could work with what we have.
So it's on Kromer IF we guessed wrong!
That said, It was either Snead or McVay, I forget who. said that one of the O-Lineman that that they picked up as a post Draft UDFA is one specifically asked for by Kromer. So we just have to wait until Camp and pre-season and see how well it works!
