Bonsignore: Rams added veteran leadership, but also a new coach who empowers those leaders

Leadership should equal wins correct?

I'm all for leaders...usually homegrown...like, I didn't like letting Chris Long go....Steve Jackson go...I didn't mind James Lauranitis...but I would have rather had him play a reduced 2 down role, than be released. But I understand why we did let JL55 walk...But SJ39 and CLong??? You don't just let leaders walk.

Importing leadership...IDK...Whitworth yes....proven...I'm not sure if Woods qualifies...I mean, if he doesn't really produce...if he looks like he did in Buffalo...is Pharoh Cooper gonna really respect him? Is Tavon gonna really look at him as a leader? If Mike Thomas is balling out, is he going to really go to a lesser player like Woods for advice? Guys say a lot to a microphone...but behind closed doors, it could be a whole other ball game. You can't have a top paid player, not performing, trying to act like a damn leader. It's counter productive. Aaron Donald is a leader...whether he likes it or not...Ogletree is a leader...Barron is a leader...Tru is a leader (oh geez...) Gurley is a leader...If these guys perform...guys will look at them and mimic their behavior...for good or bad.

I'm hoping McVay is the first leader...sorta like that guy Groh in Miami....
Agree on all counts, and honestly....I think McVay is every bit of that and more. That dude has a quiet intensity about him that I love. He has maturity beyond his years and I really liked what I heard from the legends players. That was not lip service my friend, that was genuine respect for our young coach and his football IQ. I think the football acumen, and his no bullshit attitude will take him and our team to fantastic places. I really do. It may take a couple years to get the players he needs for his various scheme fits, but it's comin. And yes, I realize he has not proven anything as a HC in this league, but that is just the feeling I get. I haven't been this excited about a Rams coach since....maybe ever.

My External HD (MAC)

I'm gonna look into this, i don't keep any bank documents or information of that kind on any of my computers (folks taught me to always keep physical documents filed) but I may want to look into it simply for design assets for clients.

Don't download the later 7.2 version. The last version is a final decrypt only version that doesn't create new encrypted containers. (The online community took this to mean the creators were being leaned on by US authorities to put in a back-door access for law enforcement agencies).

The .exe file is 3.3mb. The full program is 7.6mb. It's really easy to use and it can create a 1 GB encrypted container in about 90 seconds. If you do have any problems let me know and i'll talk you through them.

Why You Should Root For The Rams

Thinking about it, even Bernie M. wrote an article in the 90's about how LA fan's should get over losing the Rams...
"
Sorry, this is our party, we deserved it, and sore losers are not invited. We lost a football team seven years ago, and no one felt sorry for St. Louis. As we had our little revival meeting Tuesday, we easily could disregard the caterwauling from the land of milk, honey and dangerous, high-risk investment strategies made by irresponsible government officials.

Orange County defaulted on its team. Get over it. We hear that Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at Disneyland is lovely this time of the year.

As for the Rams and Frontiere, I care only about what happens from this day forward. The Los Angeles Rams are dead. The St. Louis Rams are alive."

Bonsignore: Rob Havenstein knew something was up when he got the call

Could it be that GRob or his agent are accidentally/mistakingly sabotaging his career ? Are they insisting Robinson remain at OT for future financial reasons over actual ability & necessity ? Where Havenstein comes into McVay's office willing to play wherever coach needs him, is GRob unwilling to make the ultimate sacrifice for the team ? Months ago, when I first read that it would be Hav at RG & Robinson at RT, I started to question GRob's value as a team first player. Maybe i'm just completely off-base with how our new coaching staff sees Robinson's future position, but if he is getting beat out by Brown at RT, how long before he's a willing participant at OG or asking to be released ? Is Havenstein getting any snaps at RT, or are they all at RG ? Is Pace Murphy and/or Darrell Williams getting any RT snaps or are they all at LT ? Is Donnal getting RT snaps or OG/C ? Is Brown exclusively getting RT snaps, or is he also in at OG/C ?

I realize it's foolish to get upset over players missing voluntary OTA's, but I still find myself far more bothered by GRob taking days off than Donald or TruJo. I have to ask how seriously he's taking these opportunities ?
jmo.
I'm sure it's Greg...at the advice of others....that wants to stay at Tackle...he's comfortable plus it's beneficial $$$$$$$. I would also guess that his camp blames coach fish and coach boudreau for effing up his career...or rather getting it off to a rocky start. Remember, Greg is still very young. He should be entering his prime...but he still is learning NEW techniques....
I am positive that Greg has the ability to play and LEARN Left and Right tackle responsibilities. I keep hearing the smart card played...I just listened to Brett Farve say he didn't even know what a nickle defense was...I just heard Willie Colon say he didn't really know defenses either when he entered the league. Greg had a 22 on the wonderlic.... The worst thing a young inexperienced player can have, is a clueless positional coach. Not to say Boudreau is clueless, but perhaps due to his health, he left someone not as experienced in charge of handling the instructions of the line. They looked lost...drive after drive....not just Greg...it's no surprise Saffold, Donnall, and experienced/well trained players were the main ones to have decent success in their 2nd years...they HAD a solid foundation to fall back on.
You can't get beat out of a position in OTA's without pads...not on the line....I'm sure Brown is preparing for the injuries that WILL occur...and he's getting ready to be the swiss army knife of the O-Line....I wonder how is Wichman doing with the cross training at center???? Greg will line up at RT...game one...McVay probably moved Brown in first to prepare for this week when Greg missed...and guess what, Jamon looked good...
Players lead in several ways...Did you hear how Landry at Miami is handling his contract situation??? Wouldn't you like that to be Aaron Donald? Just show up...new scheme...new coaches...new players...I want AD their more that Tru.or Robinson....Cause Donald is a baller...
I am sure G-Rob KNOWS, if he doesn't work out in LA, some team will pick him up and give him a chance...and after being improperly coached for 3 years...perhaps that's all he wants...properly coached and at his most comfortable position, Left tackle.

McVay's new offense for Rams brings challenges, opportunity for Goff

Sean McVay's new offense for Rams brings challenges, opportunity for Jared Goff

Lindsay H. Jones , USA TODAY Sports

The good news for Jared Goff this offseason was that the Los Angeles Rams hired a new head coach with a track record of working with young quarterbacks.

The bad news is that he has plenty to learn as he adopts Sean McVay's attack heading into his second season – and first full year as the Rams’ starter.

A new offense and coaching staff make this offseason especially critical for the passer's development, former Rams quarterback Kurt Warner told USA TODAY Sports. And how Goff handles learning the new plays and terminology will determine how much of a jump he can make in Year 2.

“I always thought it took about 12 months to get fully comfortable in an offense where you knew all the nuances and you could just play football. That's going to be the biggest thing for him, in this new offense: How comfortable can he be by the time training camp and the first game comes around?” Warner said in a phone interview with USA TODAY Sports. “Or is he back in that learning mode, where it's going to take another six to 12 months for him to actually show what he's capable of because he's done thinking and he's just reacting?”

McVay and Goff only have been able to work together on the field for the last few weeks, but the duo will have more extended practice time together at the Rams’ mandatory minicamp next week. That is crucial time to continue installing the offense in advance of training camp, when Goff will get his first real action against the Rams’ defense.

“I think what he’s done above the neck in terms of the way that he’s handled the different things and situations that we’ve put him in, been very pleased so far,” McVay said this week. “We know that game-like atmosphere, you try to create that so that you can mimic and emulate those situations in practice. But, until you’re actually live as a quarterback, that’s when you truly get challenged.”

After the Rams gave up a considerable haul to move up and draft him No. 1 overall last year, Goff threw five touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing just 55% of his throws in his seven starts. But the offense, which ranked last by a considerable margin in both yards (262.7 per game) and points (14 per game), was plagued by a nearly non-existent running game and a struggling line long before he took over.

The coaching change from Jeff Fisher, who was fired on Dec. 13, to the 31-year-old McVay, the former offensive coordinator in Washington, was made in part to energize a young group led by Goff. The Rams made other offensive additions, including signing veteran left tackle Andrew Whitworth and former Buffalo Bills receiver Robert Woods, to try to give Goff more support.

But Warner, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August, said Goff's relationship with McVay, as well as offensive coordinator Matt LeFleur and quarterbacks coach Greg Olson, will be more critical to his success.

“I think when players have their greatest success, it's when they're around somebody that either understands how they see the game or sees the game like that,” Warner, currently working as an analyst for NFL Network, said. “There are guys that are really good quarterbacks, but they don't have a guy who sees the game or designs the game the same way and they can struggle. That will be a big question mark going in, is Sean McVay and the staff they brought in, are they on a similar page? If so, I think there's a chance for Jared to get exponentially better. If not, it's going to continue to be a struggle.”

Thanks for the article, Coach!

I agree with everything Warner said, I would add that it APPEARS SO FAR that McVay & Co are on the same page with Goff and vice-versa. Time will tell, but this coaching staff APPEARS to be more knowledgeable, more relatable to players, and while the offense is more complex, it's easier to digest and understand to Goff.

All signs pointing to everyone being on the same page and buying into philosophies. Let's see if the smoke actually turns to fire.

Ranking the entire Rams 90-man roster from 90-to-1

Nice read....

My only gripe...

I can't believe Marques North can't make this wr squad.....I feel he has the most talent on the roster now....

See if you can find out why the Rhino still has that brace on? I figured he'd be a ST contributor...future starter....You guys still twitter pals, right?
He could be joining us on our podcast next week :) We had Kayvon Webster on and he was great. Excited to share that with you on Friday!

Torry Holt Joins the Enemy

Another thing just came to me about this...

The card players won't be able to concentrate or remember anything Holt tries to teach them anyway. They're going to be way too distracted and horrified by Torry's finger to retain the valuable knowledge he'll be trying to share.

So... it's all good.

Maybe some of the card players even decide to retire early after they see that twisted digit.

That abomination is harder to ignore than Steve Martin's nose in Roxanne!!!

Oh boy you call it. What do you think happened?

Believe it or not... I have the same problem with mosquitos. I am always the person they bite 1st and the most. Sometimes I'm the only person they will bite. It's weird.

Problem is... I'm allergic to their bites. Their bites swell up on me and I too will scratch through all layers of my skin if I don't restrain myself. I found my saviour though... and it's not the repellent.

It's benadryl gel. It comes in a tube (almost like toothpaste) with a flip top cap. I have tubes of that stuff in different places all over the house, and I keep tubes in both vehicles and the boat. It's like magic gel... it almost instantly stops the itch and swelling.

That's awesome! I'll have to get some because I'm allergic as hell to mosquitos, ESPECIALLY to some of the varieties here in FL. I've had single bites grow so big, they look like wasp bites. Crazy. So yeah, gonna have to fill up the basket when I find them.

GRob still has a couple of things going for him. He's durable, hasn't missed a game due to injury, has a new coach who is an accomplished teacher, and a veteran mentor and pro-bowler in Whitworth and Sullivan to personally explain the nuances of the game to him. Like CGI said, we've seen glimpses. The trick with GRob is to get him to be more consistent.

I think McVay and Kromer are handling him in just the right way. You want to start GRob? Play better than Brown and take his job away. Can't do it? Sit on the bench and then take your chances with another team next year. Simple as that.
