Downtown Rams Podcast: Kayvon Webster Interview

I got a good idea of what Kayvon is all about with your interview. Humble, hard worker that has confidence to play on an island. He has shown patience and didn't harp on the Broncos adding talent that took away his playing time. He had a long list of great players to learn from. Kayvon is ready to be a starter for the Rams. Enjoyed the rest of the podcast too Jake.
Thank you very much for listening. You along with everyone here that takes a listen whether its 5 or 50 minutes is just so appreciated I can't even explain it.

Greg Robinson not even second string

Raggin on players is the dark side of rooting for a team. Not saying it's right, but it's part of the deal so why not let folks get it out of their system without the "holier than thou" act.

I get it, you're a better fan. Congrats.

Not really. I've moved on from bashing players. Saying how Greg (or anyone for that matter) isn't playing well is one thing, creating threads to bash the guy and saying "he sucks" is another. I used to do that when I was in high school.

Then I realized how stupid and pointless it was.

If that makes me "holier than thou", so be it. Better than being a smug internet ragger.

Jordan Palmer likes Wilson as a TE...and to catch 35 passes....this season

36 catches this season? I don't know about all that.

But.....

Like Rams43 thread said about the "no-nonse personnel changes", I wouldn't be surprised if Wilson made the squad. Won't go as far as saying he'll have THAT type of season but with this being our 4-12 Rams desperate for weapons, wouldn't be smart to count him out being this early.

Yet, I don't know if he can make that many catches being our 3rd string QB, anyway!

Nelson Spruce Starting to Make Noise Again

If I wereMannion and trying my best to impress the new coaches, I would damned sure be looking for Spruce, too.

Spruce is a QB's Dream receiver. Honestly, I don't know how they can cut him, if healthy.
Just a few reasons why I Like Spruce, Ok, some would say he doesn't have Blazing speed, He put up a 4.69 40 at the combine Well he improved that to 4.56 at his Pro Day!
He's got a 35.0 Vertical Jump, not too shabby! And he can beat CB's with his double moves!
And here the biggest thing to me, coming out of college, in 288 Targets he only Dropped "3" balls!
And we all saw him last year in pre season against Dallas, and the Cowpies will remember him come the1st pre-season game, and in week 4!!

Gonzalez Rams Notes: Thursday's Practice Cancelled & Highlights

Boy... my aunt would love to hear about that! (Labor Lawyer)

I might have dealt with her you never know:D.

Point is Usually its falls in with other negative work behaviors i.e.absenteeism, trouble with completing assignments & general overall poor work performances that makes their fellow employees having to pull their & his/her work loads :argue:that adds to a very sour overall work place.

Mike Thomas, Tyler Higbee look to move up Rams' depth chart

You seem to think I'm trying to diss Goff like champ always does every chance he gets. Nothing of the sort.

Let's leave it there because you seem to be focusing on who to blame while i was just commenting on the article stating it was a well placed ball.

.
Nah. Just that you were apparently agreeing with what he said. No biggie and I don't really have a problem with Champ. I don't agree with his take on Goff but Goff hasn't proved me right either. I'm sure he hopes he does just as you and I no doubt hope he does.

Cheers.

Seahawks: Internal strife between offense and defense

The irony of Sherman talking about players getting preferential treatment is not lost on me.
"You gotta know when to hold em
Know when to grab em
Know to never let go
On the bump and run
You never stop your whining
Even when no flags are flyin
You'll have time enough to run your mouth
When the cheatings done"
The Gambler as sung by Sherman.

Joint Practice Sessions w/ Chargers

I can't believe anyone likes the Chargers. I have never cared about them in anyway whatsoever, even when I lived in San Diego for a few years. I cared more about the Padres, because my Dodgers would come down and beat that @ss!. One time, it was Fernando Valenzuela that beat the Pads'. I was wearing my Dodgers cap at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium in the 80's, and those bastids knocked it off my head!
Grew up in Ca and went to school in San Diego.
I love the city of SD but the sports fans are right up there with the Bay Area in terms of Dbaggery, although in a different way. Bay Area they are entitled and think the sports world (and the world in general) revolves around them....the exception are A's fans.
In San Diego the fans have a deserved inferiority complex.
They hate all things LA and with good reason. They lost their NBA to LA, the Maxi-Pads are a joke....I loved going to watch the Dodgers beat them too....the angry whining, haha....and now their NFL and it's horrible owner are leaving the stadium they couldn't fill with anything but visiting fans, to LA.
San Diego sports fans are just horrible. The teams suck and the owners are all garbage heaps.
I did enjoy the Gulls games though. Go Gulls!!

Simmons: Goff Looking Comfortable, Confident in New Offense

Goff Looking Comfortable, Confident in New Offense

By Myles Simmons

The Rams made a number of organizational moves during the offseason to help develop young quarterback Jared Goff, from hiring Sean McVay as head coach to signing free agent left tackle Andrew Whitworth. And with the club’s offseason program coming to an end this week, Goff has shown signs that he can take a significant step forward in his second pro season.

Both coaches and players have extolled Goff for his leadership off the field, and the quarterback appears to be more comfortable and confident during practice.

“I think a lot of that has to do with the guys around me,” Goff said Tuesday. “I think we’ve done a good job offensively going from the install to on the field and being effective with it. I think that goes back to the coaches as well. Their ability to install and their ability to teach and coach us has been tremendous. It’s been a lot of fun learning with them and continuing to improve myself and the team as a whole.”

The ease of installing the playbook has been a common refrain from members of Los Angeles’ offense since McVay’s arrival. Players have said it comes from the way the coaches have been so detail oriented in their instruction and focus on learning day-by-day.

“I’ve enjoyed every day coming out here and learning with them,” Goff said. “All the way back from when we started meeting with them to now — it’s been awesome. I’ve had a really good time learning it. I think I’ve picked it up at a pretty good pace. I like where we’re at right now. Obviously, a lot of stuff to improve on, especially from today. But again, I like where we’re at.”

From offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur’s vantage point, Goff has done well in making daily strides throughout the offseason program.

“That’s been the biggest thing with him, is just get a little bit better each day, become a little more consistent on a daily basis,” LaFleur said.

“I think when you look at trying to find your identity and what you kind of want to hang your hat on within the framework of our offense, I think he’s picked some of those things up well,” McVay said. “Again, like we always talk about, it’s going to be something where we want to do a good job as coaches figuring out our players and then we’ll adjust the system accordingly.”

That’s particularly important for a signal-caller in McVay’s system, which the head coach often says is set up to make the quarterback’s job as easy as possible. To that end, McVay said Goff will have input into the way the offense functions just like any other player.

“If there’s something that he feels like is going to make it an easier way for all of the players to understand and call a concept, that’s something that we’re certainly flexible with,” McVay said. “We try to make sure that as coaches we’re creating verbiage that makes sense from a teaching standpoint, as opposed to just, ‘This is just because.’ You want to always make sure there’s a ‘why.’ I think that gives you a better chance to learn if you have that.”

Still, McVay can often be seen on the field during practice coaching up the quarterbacks to ensure plays are run to his liking. And that’s something Goff likes.

“I think he is tough at times, I think there’s other times where he knows how to handle a situation, but I’ve been very happy with the way that he’s coached me,” Goff said. “I want him to be hard on me. I think I need it. I think that’s how I get better and continue to stay sharp.”

And Goff has made strong throws throughout the offseason program, particularly over the last few weeks. His teammates have noticed the progress, particularly as it relates to year over year improvement.

“There’s a lot more communicating to the receivers when he sees something,” wideout Pharoh Cooper said. “Last year, we would kind of just go about it and try to fix it the next day or something. But if we mess something up, he’ll talk to you about it on the sideline now. We’ll say, ‘Jared, you saw what I saw?’ And we’ll go from there.”

With the Rams off until late July when training camp begins, Goff said he’ll be working out in Southern California to prepare for the season.

“I’ve got two things planned. I’m going to have a camp at my high school coming up here soon. I’m going to play golf in Tahoe in the middle of July and that’s about it,” Goff said. “Everything else will be down here training.”

That's training to produce quality results for 2017 and many seasons to come.

Should the Rams consider signing former McVay coached RB Matt Jones, if released?

https://www.downtownrams.com/single...ormer-McVay-coached-RB-Matt-Jones-if-released

The former third-round pick of the Washington Redskins appears to be done with the team and a release could be imminent. The real question: Should the Rams consider reuniting him with Sean McVay?

Matt Jones is a bruising back that you probably already know just off his dominance against the Rams from a few years ago. Jones brings a nasty mean streak to him as a runner, he's not the fastest player on the field, but his power makes up for it. As great as Todd Gurley is...he isn't quite the bulldozer that Jones can be, which means the Rams likely don't have that goal line type of back on the roster if they want to spell Gurley.

According to CSN Mid-Atlantic the third-year running back is not in the Redskins plans moving forward after drafting former Oklahoma Sooner RB Samaje Perine. Jones, definitely was not okay with the move as he is holding out of OTAs, which has angered head coach Jay Gruden.

If Matt Jones continues to skip OTAs it's likely he will be cut and the 6-foot-2, 232 pounder will be a free agent. Now, I have no clue if Sean McVay had a relationship with Jones, but throwing the connections out of the window for a minute, the Rams don't have a 6-foot-2 and 230-plus pound bruising back. Obviously, the Rams are well over the cap, but that is due to the off-season rosters expanding to 90 men. Once the final cuts are made the Rams will likely be right where they need to be.

Jones has only had 243 carries for 950 yards rushing, six touchdowns as well as adding another 377 yards receiving out of the backfield on 27 catches. The reason for those stats being a little underwhelming at first glance was due to the time-share in Washington, but also the fact Jones only has played in 20 games in two seasons and only has seven official starts under his belt. Clearly Jones needs a change of scenery and the Rams could give it to him.

On the other side of the coin, the Rams have running backs Malcolm Brown, Aaron Green, Justin Davis, Lance Dunbar, Lenard Tillery and De'Mard Llorens. A move to get Jones would really speak on the coaches behalf on what they see and believe with the running back group thus far. My opinion and my knowledge of the situation coincide in the fact the Rams should be and are wanting to add a bigger pass catching back next season. Jones could definitely be that guy and cut down the wait time for that to happen.

Obviously, there is one key variable if any, for Jones to sign with the Rams and that is the first part, getting released. The team may choose to keep him and trade him, but overall I see Jones being cut before preseason. Is Jones a hidden need for the Rams? I would almost say yes, because of his ability to punch the ball in during short yardage attempts. As great as Gurley is, he was still stuffed plenty of times at the goal line and at least one of the times it costed the Rams a win.

The jury is out whether or not Matt Jones can be an NFL starter, but coming to the Rams he wouldn't have to be. This is likely the best route for Jones, going back to an old coach that understands the game of football and is comfortable utilizing him in both the running game and passing game. If Jones is to succeed at the NFL level and get his career back on track, the Rams seem like the perfect fit to propel his stock back to his rookie year.

Would you grab Matt Jones if he became available via free agency? Let us know!

Dude is a fumble machine, we have options that are better...So a big hell no

A few (way too early) random thoughts at this point in the offseason...

GRob appears to be on thin ice with Kromer already. Not good. Is it possible that he might not make the 53? I mean, that the Rams might value the roster spot more than the cap space wasted? I think it's maybe a legit question at this point. Remember, the coaches have seen him in meetings and on the practice field and we haven't. Plus, this staff didn't draft him. So, I dunno. Besides, I suspect that Kromer likes some other OT players on this roster and wants to keep them for development. Just a hunch, but still...

Another confession that I guess I have to make is that maybe Hav will, in fact, be our RG and Brown might seize that RT starter position. I thought it would be JB at RG and Hav sticking at RT. Kromer knows more about OL player development and profiling than yours truly. Who'd of thunk? Lol.
Great post...really enjoyed it except THIS /\....c'mon 43.....without pads?
I do believe this is the motivational tool of one Sean McVay & Kromer.

I will say, I thought it would be Jamon Brown at RG....and Greg Robinson at RT.....and I still think that...missed assignments in OTA's be damned. LOLOLOL

OTOH, feedback about Sully has been greater than I had expected. I'm gonna confess that Sully was a better signing than I had originally thought. "Den" was a big Sully honk while I was hung up on Sully's back issues a couple of years ago. Looks like "den" was right all the time.
I am still crossing my fingers on Sully & Whit....man age and injuries...and FREE AGENTS...shit, I need a drink just thinking about the possibilities....
Hell, I wouldn't cut any linemen that have played b4 until I see how solid we are across the line....with respect to injuries.
