Game play looks

I was watching some replay games. I found a play from last preseason game. We have a 1st and 10, snap is initiating right at 12:17 in the first quarter.

The entire offense and defense is loaded to the right side.

On the hand off Gurley looks to make the right decision. Keeping his shoulders square to the line. But shortly after that he looks like he has tunnel vision. He had a great initial set up and the blocking was terrific. Due to him keeping his shoulders square he created a massive cutback lane. I haven't watched coaches film but I could see a hole being created.

Training Camp (WED Aug-16)

Tell me I'm rooting against someone, I want this team to win just because I don't agree with the qb that's starting doesn't mean I don't want this team to win. We all got different perspectives we see things a different way but so far my opinion of Mannion is the only thing that gets attacked everything he does isn't good enough when in reality Goff has done jack shit so let's be real here some of these posters are more concerned about a potential qb controversy then the coach and the QBs themselves that's why they try to tear down anything positive that's mentioned with Mannion name on it. I just watch the game and call it like I see it

What to make of this news? CB McKelvin in for workout

Nope. You are completely wrong. Look up the Franchise Tag Designation Rules
When you trade a player, the contract goes with him. The problem is that after July 17th the team that trades for him cant sign him to a long term deal. If you have rules that say otherwise please post them
The Franchise Player Designations section of the CBA is Article 10, Section 1, on page 44. Trades aren't mentioned. There is no mention of trades in any part of Article 10, pages 44-52. Johnson's contract is guaranteed meaning we are responsible for it if he plays for us or is cut.

When trading the team trading for the contract becomes responsible for all further/future player earnings during the time period of that contract. All prior earnings, (including signing and roster bonuses etc), are the cap responsibility of the team that paid them. Thus the trading team would become responsible for Johnson's 2017 salary. I take that to be the case subject to the CBA specifically stating a difference in cap accounting for traded franchise and transition tag players. This is very unlikely as teams with title ambitions would potentially be able to trade for tagged players up to the trade deadline with 0 cap cost, (assuming the player's earnings are only counted against the cap once with the former team taking the hit).

Any team trading for Johnson acquires him as an expensive 1 year rental. Maybe a potential Super Bowl team with cap space would consider it knowing they'd likely get a #97-#100 overall pick in the 2019 Draft if Johnson signs elsewhere in 2018. This is more likely after Week 8 if we're out of contention.

Bosignore: Josh Reynolds Getting McVay's Attention

12% of available cap, or 12% total. Huge difference, also that's a serious question. Donald is probably on his way to the hof, but is he Reggie White right now? Were the Packers tight up against the cap and coming off a 4 win season?

12% total.

And it's not a huge difference. If we can't make do with the other 88% of the cap, we deserve to lose. Donald is a superstar. You pay him what he's worth. It's absolutely baffling to me that people want to not pay the elite player we have. You don't let the elite players walk. You let the above average and good players walk when they ask for too much. Look at how Seattle has stayed on top.

He's going to eat up most of the available cap, while still under contract...

And Donald does not have to listen to his agent. His agent works for him. Plenty of athletes have fired their agents because of negotiations. Next offseason is going to be a very important one with quite a few key players contracts ending. Do you want to lose say...3 key players but you get to keep Donald?

I love Donald, but this team is building something. We need to keep our nucleus intact. We can't do that is our available cap all goes to one player.

We have $40 million to $50 million in cap room next year before making any cuts. We can have our cake and eat it too.

Mike Thomas and Nelson Spruce

Man our WR is loaded now and two of the WR's I see a lot of support for are Spruce and Thomas, and you know what? We have no more room for them anymore. This has really giving me a revelation that in just one off season past Fishers we are going to be cutting some pretty damn decent WR's which we have not had in the last 10 seasons.

Guaranteed Roster WR's:

1. Watkins
2. Woods
3. Kupp
4. Tavon
5. Cooper
6. Reynolds

That's a hell of a WR lineup.
I guess you could make an argument if we keep 7 WR's it would be either Spruce or Thomas.

If we torch some teams the first 4-6 games hopefully that will bring some safeties up high again and then Gurley can be let loose!

At this point, I'm not too worried about us 'torching' teams. :sneaky:
I'm more concerned about just scoring enough points to win a game.

Sammy Watkins of Los Angeles Rams quick to impress starting quarterback Jared Goff in practice

Rams working with Nike to develop shoe to help Sammy Watkins
August 16, 2017
by Gordon Dixon

The Rams have begun taking measures in an effort to ensure their new offensive weapon is on the field as much as possible.

Last week, the Rams sent cornerback E.J Gaines and a draft pick to the Bills for Sammy Watkins and a draft pick. Watkins has shown the ability to be a game-changing receiver during his three years in the league. However, he has also had two surgical procedures on his foot. Last year Watkins broke a bone in his foot, which required a screw to be inserted. Another procedure was performed in January.

Watkins has indicated during training camp he is now healthy, which is obviously great news. The Rams want to make sure he stays that way and are planning to meet with Nike to develop a shoe designed to help Watkins, according to what the team’s GM told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Wednesday.

“The shoe thing is a very big deal,” Rams GM Les Snead told Brady Quinn and Alex Marvez on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “There’s a lot of technology, a lot of smart engineers developing shoes for these athletes, especially based on the type of torque and pressure they’re putting on their bones when you go in and out of a break.”

Last season, Watkins was limited to just eight games. In 13 games in 2015, Watkins caught 60 passes for 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Rams had one of the worst passing attacks in the NFL last year with Case Keenum and rookie Jared Goff taking the majority of the snaps. If Watkins can stay healthy and put together a productive season, it will bode well for the Rams and potentially Watkins as well, who could hit the free agent market after this season.

Tavon Austin

That's it right there. Forget about the draft capital and salary spent on this guy--that ship has sailed. He will never be worth that or be a #1 option. Forcing the offense through him was a mistake and counterproductive.

With all the weapons/options the Rams now have AHEAD of Austin, he will see fewer touches.
...but that works!
Using Austin as a decoy most of the time he's on the field will ultimately get him lost in the defensive priorities. They will simply have too many other things to worry about (hopefully). Catching Austin in a mismatch in space spells big plays. McV is probably the right coach to do this.

Austin is a talented player in his own right and has a place in the NFL. He just will never be the kind of player who can be the main focal point of an offense. He can't be your best weapon because it's too easy to take him outta the game--including PRs.
Amen man.
Motion, motion....Austin on a safety or LB.
or, clearing space with the other higher priority stops and exploit Austin in the open space.
Still tons of potential for Austin.

Camp Pressers: McVay & Goff 08/16/17

Agreed. As fans we can be rather confusing. If our QB is checking down too much we scream at the OC or QB for being to conservative but once they start airing it out and throwing picks we have a new set of gripes :)

The fact is there is higher risk of interception or sack on the 7 step drops and lower completion percentage. But Goff is really a QB with the talents to air the ball out so we need to be patience and let him make his mistakes. It could take a up to a few years realistically to reach his potential.

I personally would like to see the offense opened up like we saw with Kirk Cousins, rather than the latest showing of murmur ball pt5 or schottyball strikes back.

I much rather see the remake of GSOT.

"Murmur ball." Good one.

Someone noted Aaron Rodgers. He tests the limits in practice, seeing if he can thread a needle, drop a pass in space, etc. resulting in more picks. I remember a few years back, Rodgers throwing a bunch of picks in training camp and how it was breathlessly reported. "Is something wrong with Rodgers?" He went on to have one of his best years.

Goff isn't Rodgers. But he approaches the game the same way. He is his own man. He is building into something special. I, for one, am not worried.

Custody Fight for Rally Cat?

Rally Cat custody case: Feral Cat center has him, Cardinals want him

Could a custody fight be in Rally Cat’s future?

The cat — who scampered to fame after running across the Busch Stadium outfield last week — is being cared for by St. Louis Feral Cat Outreach. But the Cardinals are claiming custody of the feline, whom the outreach center has officially named Rally Cat.

“We’ve had thousands of inquiries from throughout the region, including many great organizations like the St. Louis Cardinals, in addition to many cat-loving individuals about adopting Rally,” the center said.

The center said it had an adoption process in place, and the most important thing is for Rally to have a happy and healthy life.

Enter the Cardinals, who have staked a claim to “our” cat.

“The St. Louis Feral Cat Outreach organization has assured us they will be returning our cat to us after a mandatory 10-day quarantine period,” said Ron Watermon, the team’s vice president of communications.

And when does that 10-day quarantine end? Monday — the day before the team comes back to Busch Stadium for a homestand.

Team owner Bill DeWitt asked Watermon “to plan a formal ‘welcome home’ ceremony next week when the Cardinals return from their road trip,” Watermon said. The ceremony will also honor the outreach center’s volunteers who helped rescue the cat.

So if Rally winds up at Busch Stadium, where would he live?

“Rally Cat will be cared for by our team, making the Cardinals Clubhouse his home,” Watermon said. “Mike and our players are looking forward to loving and caring for him.”

The team is making plans to help raise awareness with St. Louis Feral Cat by planning — of course — a Rally Cat appreciation day to help raise money for the outreach center on Sept. 10 at a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. (If only it were the Detroit Tigers.)

The outreach center says Rally’s health is fine but he needs to gain more weight, and will be neutered — part of standard policy.

“It is our hope he will be ready for his first public appearance, hopefully at the Rally Cat Appreciation Night,” the center said.
