QB

Big pass to Pennix in the 1st round and I'm a big fan of his. For one, he will be 24+ before the season even begins. We really don't need to have an older prospect sitting for several years behind Staff. 2nd, he has a pretty long injury history along with wonky mechanics. I'd certainly have to consider him in the 2nd however, but, in the 1st we need a day 1 contributing starter.
I think age is overplayed with pocket QBs. Penix is a pocket QB. So the only real problem with the guy is his injuries. And potentially they're a big problem. But we don't get to see that stuff.

QBs who play in the pocket, though, just generally speaking, have the best chance to have a long career. Particularly the ones who have strong arms. Because some of the iffy ones flame out as their youth starts fading if they were already forcing the ball on the tougher throws.

Rams may see Penix as a 5th rounder. Who knows. But I don't think age will be a major factor in where they slot him because your projections will have him in the pocket and the question is medically whether he's sound there. Also a ton of other shit is more important like how well he chalkboards with the Rams, I think they have very high standards on the mental side of things. But all that aside if he's cleared medically I can't imagine him being on the board long, regardless of the fact some teams will love him and others won't.

Comp picks

Bad news on the comp picks. The Mayfield pick appears to have been rewarded as a 6th. Additionally, one of the 3 that I was expecting to be a 6th rounder appears to be a 7th.

OFFICIAL 2023 NFL trades, cuts, free agents, and more

They're also releasing 28 year old CB Tre'Davious White (a post June 1st release). Who would you rather have?
Easily White. The injuries are a concern, but we're talking about one of the better corners in the game before those injuries. I wouldn't mind a one-year prove-it deal for him.

My favorite corner in this free agency is probably Sean Murphy-Bunting, though. Productive, albeit a bit snake-bitten by injuries, but he's only twenty-six and had a solid year with the Titans.

Combine Week

I will always encourage self-exploration. Perhaps I should look at how I'm communicating what I believe to be good questions and well reasoned arguments.
It's a reality. It would be naive to think the numbers won't make teams gun shy when considering a white player for corner. These are premium picks and there are other options that don't come with that element, so maybe a team or two who are looking corner opt for one of them instead.

Not really a big deal though. Even with some teams maybe being affected by that he's too good a player to last for long and I think he'll play corner.

Compensatory Picks: A question

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams have been very adept at leveraging comp picks to improve their roster with skilled drafting–in 2023, they got an extremely positive example of that with Puka Nacua. This season, they don’t have as many high profile pending UFAs as they did before, but even if they’re low round comp picks, players like Coleman Shelton, Ahkello Witherspoon, Jordan Fuller, or Kevin Dotson could keep their modus operandi going. Potential: Moderate

Burns Tagged

Here’s my reasoning. Spotrac indicates Burns gets $24m with the tag. The Panthers have pretty low cap space of $13m. They don’t have ANY offensive weapons and were lowest scoring offense last year. Also they have a R1 QB who struggled mightily. So they keep Burns this year. He ain’t happy so he doesn’t want a new contract with them unless they pay him huge $$$. They still suck and next year it happens all over again. May not be sound but that is my reasoning.
They can manage the cap easily, and the 13 mill of space INCLUDES a 24 mill cap hit for Burns.
They arent going to fix their offensive issues with cap space. They'll trade him, whether it be now or at the deadline. They'll get more value then by just letting him walk.

How many #19-worthy prospects do you see in the draft pool?

I don’t like this, but I think there’s a non-zero chance that with Burns being tendered the way he was, it was purely to ensure compensation as they can either take the pick or pay $20M this year and no less than $28.8M next year which they won’t do.

They could have tendered him the top tier getting 2 1sts back, but didn’t and it’s only a 1 with right to match. That’s how to set up a trade

I think they stretch to resign Dotson and trade for Burns and then work their draft magic with what they have left

They may offer the 2nd, but then again it seems the interest in Mike Evans was real and the interest in Odunze may be real… so who knows?

I love the idea of a dominant OL, but I think McVay is tired of running his O with only one of his main WRs fully healthy so he may push for a top guy who fits their mold like Kupp and Nacua… Odunze does that so we’ll see
If this is legit or a smokescreen

2024 MLS Season

Between the scab refs and the Miami (should be called Fort Lauderdale not Miami) Messis... the league is turning me off fast.

I was considering buying the league pass to watch my Orlando City Lions this year. That's the ONLY way you can watch your hometown team now. But then I watched my Lions play last weekend against the Messis. Keep in mind that Orlando is predicted to be one of the best teams this year. Final score was 5 - 0 Messis.

Trying to play against the Messi/Suarez exhibition tour AND the refs who have clearly been instructed to allow those 2 players to do whatever they want without penalty... it's not worth watching. The game on Saturday was literally like watching a Harlem Globetrotters "game".

Throw in the fact that the league changed the money rules JUST for Miami (NOT for the rest of the league though) so that they could pair those 2 players. Complete and total bullshit... Total disregard for integrity and fairness to the game.

This season is nothing more than an exhibition tour of the Miami Messis and an attempt to bring in as much money from THAT as possible. Fuck marketing the actual sport of soccer.

At least I realized it would be a terrible idea to send any of my money to that bullshit.

I'm losing almost all of the interest that the league was able to create for me previously. Very discouraging and disappointing.

Memphis Ram Mock 3.0

Upon further review, while I still believe that two late 1st round picks is a decent price for a young premium pass rusher in his prime, the Panthers cap situation just might help get a cheaper deal done.

You made me salivate... haha! That said, it would be interesting to see if they could fit him and AD under the cap. AD contract runs out this year but we pay for a voided year next year, meaning if we resign AD we would have to pay him, pay for his voided year from his last contract, plus whatever we pay Burns. Its possible I guess given we really arent paying anyone else other than Staff and Kupp... And yes, it would definitely necessitate a CB, LT/RT and IOL in the draft.

Rams Sponsoring NFL Draft Party

Rams are sponsoring a draft party in Hersomosa Beach with a bandstand a 60 yard football field on the sand and hosted by JB Long.

Not far from me and where I learned to sur as a kid. I'll definately be there to represent and make a lot of noise. If any of you ROD members plan to attend,
