Rams Tender Hoecht - Right of first refusal

I like Hoecht a lot and think he will surprise people. He is great for depth and might yet prove to mature into a decent starter. He is a late bloomer that was getting better every week, often in leaps and bounds at a time. If he can continue that ascent, look out, because he'll vastly out perform that contract and become a key piece in a cap world. Hoecht is one player I am excited to watch in 2024-25 because I am curious where that ceiling is. He sure does not seem to have hit it yet.

The only time he didn't look good was when he was dropped into coverage. That's not really on him. It's not what he's built for.
The question is - at what position can me maximize his talents? He’s an elephant chasing gazelles in pass coverage so it isn’t OLB.

Free Agency Predictions

I’m bummed about the edge situation.

But…

Objectively, really an EXCELLENT FA season, so far… imo.

Really, zero head scratchers… a ton of stability and talented young additions with real upside.

I mean.. 5 starters? 6 if they start in 11 personnel?

And each position is an upgrade.. or solid retention.

Now.. 11 draft picks. Fun.

Ten years later

What a draft that was to get AD. Goes to show though that you need teams to outsmart themselves to get the great players sometimes. They gotta get to you.

I would guess the hit rates are pretty good on OTs in round 1 for the reason that if they can't play LT they can often play on the right or even the interior. But I haven't looked them up or anything.

Re: the Rams this year I think their OL moves cementing the interior might affect their plans with the OTs. Guy like Fautanu for example has to be able to play LT. With another team he'd have other spots available as a fallback. Not with the Rams. So I think his value to the Rams takes a bit of a hit, unless they love him at LT which is possible. He did play in big games at LT. But my guess is they are more after Guyton, who is a bit of a project but has the feet and size you want and who also performed well in Senior Bowl practices.

Rams trying to get something done with Shelton

I know many think this ship has sailed and it may have. A couple of questions.

How many teams need a starting center?
If Shelton doesn't get signed to starting center money elsewhere, what would it take to re-sign him as a backup to Avila, Dotson and Jackson? Can't be more than the 5 mil they'll save by cutting Noteboom. Maybe even less. The guy has made less than 7 mil over 5 years from the Rams. 3.5 is more than half of that.

Never say never.
I can see that especially if they use late picks to move up and not really target a rookie C. Probably what will happen if he doesn’t draw much interest. Rams are just being patient with that situation.

Justin Fields: an idea and a question

The trade market for Justin Fields is rapidly drying meaning that, if he is traded, it will likely be to a team that won’t slot him in as an immediate starter.

Could/should the Rams be interested?

Let’s say the Rams were to get him for a 3rd round pick. He’d be a very good insurance policy (and could be used as in occasional RPO packages) for this year, at a price of around $3.25M.

The Rams would, of course, decline Fields’ 5th year option, which would pay him over $20M.

I don’t know if, having turned down the option, the Rams would be eligible to get a comp pick if (when) Fields leaves after a year. If they do, that mitigates against the price.

This could become moot any moment now but, in the meantime, anyone like this idea?
1/6th (2024) + 1/6th (2025) = 1/3rd…..no? I believe I learned that in 3rd grade and somehow it stuck.

150lbs Down

Down to 225 lbs. from 260! It's a huge deal because I'm in a wheelchair and trying to practice walking in time for one of my two irl besties' wedding (no, I'm not marrying her; I just want to be able to stand for a bit while she walks down the aisle). Hoping to cut even more weight, so I can get on a plane, see the besties, maybe my sister in Utah.

Rams awarded 5 comp picks

He also said the Bengals might have been screwed:

"The Cincinnati Bengals received two compensatory picks this year for the 2024 NFL draft, the first time they have received extra picks from the comp picks process since 2021.

But the two sixth-round selections awarded by the NFL could be in error, according to one expert on such matters.

Nick Korte of Over The Cap, the go-to name on comp picks, says the league's valuation of contracts and values of players lost to other teams might've cost the Bengals as high as a third-round compensatory selection.

According to Korte, Jessie Bates should have been valued as a third-rounder and not a fourth. As a fourth, Cincinnati's losing him was canceled out by the team's signing of Orlando Brown Jr. in free agency:

Translation: There's a scenario where, if Bates gets valued as a third-rounder, the Bengals earn third-round and sixth-round comp picks instead of two sixes. It should go without saying, but the difference in value between a third and sixth-rounder is massive -- from the late 90s to early 200s difference.

This is worth keeping in mind, if nothing else, because there have been errors in the comp pick process in the recent past. In 2015, an error caused a revision of three comp picks. In 2021, a team was shorted a pick that was later corrected.

That doesn't mean there's an error here, especially when much of this process is
secretive-feeling. But given the value of the pick differential pointed out here, it's certainly a point worth raising."

Wouldn't it be fair if NFL teams knew the process for awarding comp picks? Secretive is exactly what it is and that could appear to be a way for the NFL to put their thumb on the parity scale? What's the big deal? NFL teams could bitch if the comp guys make a mistake? They don't now?

I think it's gotten out of hand. IMHO, the only 3rd round comp picks should be awarded for losing minority coaches. What they're doing is actually penalizing the shitty teams and lowering everybody's normal picks. This year 4th round picks are 4 slots lower, 5th round picks, 7 slots lower and 6th round picks are 16 slots lower. That's 50% of a round, not to mention a lot lower in value when it comes to trades. Comp picks for losing players should start at the bottom of the 4th. And they should take more than money into account. Why should a team be awarded a high draft pick because an ass-clown team with a lot of cap space gives somebody 75 million? In some cases when they had no intention of re-signing the guy at any price? They should have a "point system" and use 5 catagories all 20% of the formula. Length of contract, money per year, games played, performance (top 5, top 10, top 25 of position), awards (pro bowl, all pro, top 5 in MVP voting). In reality, since it's mostly about money, some teams are being awarded high comp picks for other team's stupidity.

Something like this would be fair:

Length of contract: 1 yr (1.33 pts), 2-3 yrs (1.66 pts), 4 years + (1.99 pts)
Yearly value/cap hit: 4 mil - 7.5 mil (1.33 pts), 7.6 mil - 12 mil (1.66 pts), 13 mil + (1.99 pts)
Game played: 5-8 (1.33 pts), 9-12 (1.66 pts), 13+ (1.99)
Performance (by position): Top 25 (1.33 pts), Top 10 (1.66 pts), Top 5 (1.99 pts)
Awards: Pro Bowl (1.33 pts), All Pro (1.66 pts), Top 10 MVP (1.99 pts)
Bonus: MVP (5 pts)

Add up the totals and match it against the totals signed and you have a gain or loss by each team.

Going by that >>>>> Garappolo 5.31 / Mayfield 7.64.

And since it's not all about the money/stupidity, guys who didn't get great deals but performed like a guy who should have, will still rank into the comp formula. OR the NFL can continue to be secretive about it.

The niners lost more talent than the Rams because JG got 72 mil and Baker 2 mil? Yeah, okay. The niners actually saved money and a valuable roster spot by not bidding against that ridiculous Raider offer for an oft-injured game manager.

Ronnie Rivers ERFA tendered

I'm not surprised. He's the kind of backup RB you want in a move the chains possession type of offense. I still think they draft a RB to be #2.
Yeah & Kyren Williams isn’t a TOP RB who isn’t a STARTER that can’t get you Big Gaines & is SLOW!!

That will NEVER get OLD !! LMFAO

—do agree another RB ,if nothing else for special teams in the later part of the Draft.

My concerns are when Williams went down ,Rivers was right behind him. Just saying from last season.

A hypothetical question

Ive missed maybe six games. Im a USC fan.

Is he talented, yes. Absolutely.

Does he demonstrate the ability to play within a system and make quick throws? At times. He relies way too much on the play breaking down to be a top quarterback. He’s going to be another Kyler Murray. Mayyybe Deshaun Watson.

Do I think he’s a generational talent? Nope. I think he’s being hyped up because of the “wow” plays he does make.

Just looking back over the last 5 drafts, I’m not taking him over Kyler, Burrow, or Lawrence based solely off their college tape.

What exactly makes him “generational”?
IMHO He’s way overrated
