NFL shortcuts game notes

I like Sunday ticket NFL shortcuts. A whole game in 40 minutes. click the 15 second rewind if you didn't quite see who made the impacting play. I'm no salesman, just enjoy the convenience of cutting through the crap to see the actual plays real quickly.

I took some time to look a little more closely at the Rams Eagles game and came away with these notes.

Excuse the misspells and shorthand. Just trying to jot down the facts and some general observations.

General observations:

Wentz definitely not as accurate as Goff in the pocket. Very Erratic with throws at times. It's not even close who is the more accurate pocket passer, at least in this game.

Wentz has same vision as Goff feeling the rush and getting out of the pocket, but definitely has quicker moves once he flushes the pocket and more accurate out of the pocket than Goff.

Eagles interior line stonewalled Rams pass rush most of the day, the few times we got there we didn't finish. Kelce is one hell of a pass protector.

Wentz throws a strong 10-15 yard sideline out.

Fletcher Cox owned our interior line. Sullivan and Brown had rough days. Blown by Greg Robinson style a few times on critical third downs. Pro Bowlers gonna Pro Bowl I guess.

John Johnson slip gave Eagles an easy TD pass. Need to fix that, looked like was unsure on assignment and leaning too far inside.

Ogletree burned by TE's:
1 PI setting eagles up at Goal line.
2 Too slow to cover Burton on 3rd and 11 for a TD.

Goff needs to learn to buy more time by slowing his PA rollout towards his right at the end of it and backing up a few step in the mode of Montana while looking downfield.

Ogletree missed Wentz on a free Blitz. Must force him back inside and take the outside shoulder. But great job by Wentz juking Olgletree and Samson.

Kelce stonewalled Westbrook consistently in pass protection. Wentz has all day to throw.

Eagles converting 4th downs against us, by throwing the ball. File it away Mcvay.

Burton is a hell of a TE. Beating CB's (Hill) and safety's (Johnson) in coverage easily, all game. Imagine if Goff had a TE like him. Strong and fast in routes and catches the ball in traffic. I wonder if they re-sign him. Bring his ass in here. He's one athletic baller.

Troy Hill had some solid coverage, at least 4 times in this game that I counted. Good sign considering we are going to need him down the stretch unfortunately.

Trumaine for all his bonehead stuff had alot of great pass breakups in this game. Just unlearn the Fisher.

Wentz took more than a few hits on his legs after flushing and running up the middle. He absolutely needs to change this style. I counted at least 4 runs that he took hits to his legs. Slide feet first bro.

That stupid leverage call on the FG took 2 minutes off the clock that we needed.

It was Brown who got owned by Brandon Graham on the last Goff pass that was huried forcing our last punt. Goff all game showed amazing escape ability. He was under Duress all game especially on huge 3rd downs.

Eagles drives extended:

1 Trumaine PI on 3rd and 1 for 30 yards.

2 Going for it on 4th down in the first half

3. Trumaine Taunting. Instead of 53 yard FG attempt they get back into red zone, free first down.

4 Going for it on 4th down from the 3 yard line and Jeffrey scooping a throw that Joyner just missed.

So yea two 4th down conversions and two Trumaine penalites. ARGGG!!!!! 28 point swing.

Rams drives stalled in the first half:

1 BS Holding Penalty on huge Gurley 30 yard run put us in 3rd and forever killing a drive.

2 Fletcher Cox blows up a 3rd and 4 knocking Jared down as he throws before Sammy gets in his route. Sullivan got owned.

3 Fletcher Cox blows up another 3rd and 3 short pass, just blowing by Sullivan and then knocks Jared as he throws. Illegal Helmet to chin not called.

4 Throw to Reynolds that went 1 yard short of line to gain

This was a game that could have been a Rams Blowout...but alas coulda, woulda, shoulda.
When your starting NT Westbrooks has zero sacks, zero tackles & zero assists then our best player Aaron Donald who has 7 sacks in the last 7 games came up with none with only 2 tackles then you know their interior OL did some serious work ( or Holding with the Refs looking elsewhere for no calls). I posted late last week that I had concerns with the interior OL being able to handle Westbrooks with ease. WE all know & so does the entire NFL that the Rams are weak @ the Nose.

The TE issues has always been here with Gregg Williams but had settled down but Ogletree has had problems with TE coverage at times. Wilson Time & that 6-7 270 pound TE Jimmy Graham will likely have a big game this Sunday if Ogletree plays similar to this past Sunday.

I heard that the Jags has a special game plan for Jimmy Graham & it appears that that plan worked to get them a win against the Seabirds?? Wonder if Wade takes a look @ whatever that plan was?

NRC is a baller

Who’s calling Goff elite at this point?? Dumb play call for the reason(s) you, yourself mention.

Ok man, we'll disagree on this. And I don't want to keep going back and forth on AD in a NRC thread but here's an example of how the team would move forward from trading a future HoF DT...

1. They would get picks.
2. They would use those picks to bring in more quality to the defense. Might be a rush OLB instead of a DT that becomes our primary rush threat, plus a top CB we wouldn't have otherwise.
3. Defense overall next year could still be significantly better, maybe elite, after the moves and additions.

Acting like we cannot replace him, that there's no way forward if AD is moved, is just wrong to me. So yeah, we disagree here cheers.

Lost in Sunday’s game...

If he produces in the red zone he is helping the team. We need red zone threats and producers. He is tough and will fight for the TD. I’m good with keeping him and seeing if a real off season sets him up as our true #1. As much as I like what Woods is doing, I think Sammy can be that guy.

We need some serious upgrades and I would like receiver to be on the list of non-needs.

Looking ahead after still not recovering from Eagles loss!!!!

This game in Seattle is our season, basically. If we win, we have a good chance to host a wildcard round playoff game and will have our best chance to advance. If we lose, playoffs gonna be rough as we'll kick them off in either Seattle or New Orleans.

Gonna start looking at seedings after this game, depending on how things go down. It's going to be interesting to see which team ends up drawing the @Eagles in round 2, as the difference in difficulty between that one and @Minnesota will be significant. Some team will benefit from that, and I hope it's us as I'd love nothing more than to knock Philly out in their house.

But back to Seattle, this game is the real deal. It's gonna be nasty.

The Baker Mayfield Bandwagon Thread

I haven't dug deep on Baker Mayfield, but I think it's unfair to compare him to Manziel. Manziel wasn't just an arrogant little prick; he was also a lazy player who valued partying over football. From all reports, Mayfield is a dedicated worker. Just from casually watching him, there are a lot of things about his game that stood out to me as major positives. There are a few concerns I have that I need to look into further once I dive into his film.
Great post.
You dont walk on to 2 programs and become the starter without hard work.

The Defense had a bad day but the Refs tilted the scales

Admit it, if you score 35 you should win the game. The O scored 28, which is usually enough to win a game with a good D.

The defense had a bad day.

But.........today we saw one of the biggest reasons fans are tuning out and getting tired of the NFL. Officiating is crap-worthy. Just terrible, as in WTF.

I rarely complain about the refs because they are usually not very good, sometimes they are bad.

Today they were horrible, just freaking horrible.

15 yards and a first down on TJohnson was horrific........that was nothing more than two players talking. And if you watch the play the WR comes up and gives him a slight headbutt yet the call goes against the Rams. That was crap.

Critical drive for the Eagles and AO gets held so badly while they get a first down I was SURE a flag would be thrown, but nothing.

The difference today was bad calls. Two well matched teams didn't win or lose by a play made or not made by players, or which QB was better, or what guy out-coached the other guy.

The difference was bad calls by the officials.

Again, I really NEVER complain about the refs, but the game today was decided by bad non-calls and calls that were just plain stupid.

The NFL has to do something about the refs. If Goodell had a clue he would bust that union by kicking them out and do what the league wanted to do in the first place.

It's just time to fix this problem.

Fans can cry all they want. Tru had that first pI call to set up Eagles firstTD. BS call- excellent play by Tru. The personal foul call is all on Tru !! Stay the Fuck away. From that especially after being warned. Play football!!

The hold on AD was bad , but those get missed. The bottom line is the Rams lost.

Before you say anything... think

QB CARSON WENTZ, 83.9 OVERALL GRADE
We await news of what injury Wentz has suffered, but whether Eagle fan or not we should all be disappointed at potentially losing a player who has added so much to the league this year. The sophomore quarterback was sharp against a Rams defense that got pressure on 16 of his 45 dropbacks, pushing the ball in the deep and intermediate areas to complete nine passes beyond 10 yards in the air. That the Eagles won this game without him on the field shouldn’t take away how much he did to ensure the team were in position to.

If you rewatch the game, before Wentz leaves a stat box pops up showing QB hits, the Rams were at 19.
OK... like I said, I was a little drunk (OK, a lot drunk).

I'm gonna watch the Short tonight.

Top QB to WR for the next decade?

I like a Henry Ellard comparison.
Ellard in his later years. Ellard was a burner early in his career but slowed down a bit.
But, he was just deadly on that intermediate stuff and crossing the middle of the field. He would catch everything and was so reliable and complete as a receiver. I could see Kupp developing into that sort of game in game out go to guy. A first down machine with occasional big plays.

A bit maybe... Ellard had great hands also and could really jump.

However Kupp is stronger and harder to tackle...if he can have the kind of career Ellard had.. then yeah we have something :P

2 Quick Thoughts

they need depth on the o-line as evidenced by turnstile darrell williams yesterday. they can let sammy walk, love woods and cupp. need a backup RB and need to develop their TE (everett). All this can be done with low budget, I agree that the major resources need to go to defense.
Yes and no.
Williams can be solid at LT. A 16 game starter, probably not. Clearly better and more comfortable at LT than RT.
Rams have Williams and Lucas at LT. Will be interesting to see if the Rams feel they have or can develop either as both are young players.
Using a third round pick on a LT would be wise if the team doesn't think neither Williams or Lucas can develop.
Inside Blythe has been good when he has played.
I would invest two picks in OL this draft but not the first round pick with rest of the draft going to the D.
Trying to find cheap OL FA to add depth or develop is tough shopping.....this is what the Rams did with Lucas. If there were to be major investing in the OL via FA it would be to upgrade RG as Brown is the weakest of the starters. But, I seriously doubt that would happen.
