Damn draft kept wanting me to draft TEs, SS, QB and WR. This thing knows less about our team than Florio

BTW: Screw Natural Grass...Give Me Field Turf!

Theere were far more Ram fans at the game last night; easily 90% cheering for our Rams and perhaps 10% for the visiting Falcons. That according to Plasiche in his front-page article on the game. ("Fans show up but Rams don't).
If the Rams keep winning and putting together a great and entertaining product, fans will show up in big numbers. Why the club had such a poor record at home and a great road record is beyond me but I will say that will improve next year. Rams will make the playoffs next year and this time they will win.

This team isn't built for turf. We run a speed based offense that relies on timing and quickness in executing to create separation and linemen being able to anchor.

On good grass, we do well. But on crappy grass, we suffer far more than a team like the Falcons which was much more a power running and take long shots down the field team.

I actually think that our field is more of an impediment than opposing fans. At least the record showed that this year...

Looking Forward to our Free Agents

I would love to see what Watkins can do with a full offseason learning this playbook, and building a relationship with Goff.

Remember how Warner would say that he trusted Bruce and Holt so much to run their routes that he could practically throw the ball with his eyes closed and know they'd be in the right position to catch it 100% of the time? That doesn't happen overnight man. Those are reps. Sammy and Goff need those reps.

Yeah this is why it's so hard to determine whether Watkins will be a target for the Rams.

How well does he know the offense? If the QB doesn't trust him to be in the right spot he's going to have a tendency to look away from him. Jared made one throw to him late, where Sammy was singled up with no safety over the top and raised his hand at the start then had an immediate two steps on the dude. But of course the ball was late and they didn't convert what could have been an explosive play had the throw been on time. Some of it is probably that, as well as a young QB learning on the job still.

I'd have to go back and look at the all 22 and see not only how often Sammy was open, but also how the Falcons played him. Did they single him up a lot? Not sure, as I was busy pounding beers in frustration.

Either way though, McVay will know all that and factor it in with their decision.

WILDCARD: Bills at Jaguars

That conference is top heavy. I’m not convinced Pitt and NE are as good as the eventual NFC winner... beyond Pitt an NE it really drops off.
I know it . Thats why last night's loss is hard to take . Although it would have been tough , the Rams could've made it to the Super Bowl and won it . Even an average or good game last night would've won it . Gut punch still hurts

Sammy Watkins on impending free agency: 'I'm looking forward to staying'

This is what Rotoworld said about Watkins:
His struggles can be attributed to quarterback play and coaching. Watkins is an exceptionally poor fit with Jared Goff, who avoids risky throws and struggles with accuracy. Coach Sean McVay also focused much of his play-calling on short-to-intermediate routes and play action.

One doesn’t even have to watch the games and just look at stats to know this is untrue. How do these guys have jobs?

they've been death riding goff since he came into the league. anything bad that happens is his fault.

watkins doesn't want to put pressure on his feet by trying to stop. he's probably scared to plant his foot when he's running hard down field. that's the only reason i can come up with for his lack of fight on any ball that doesn't hit him on the chest.

2017 Rams compared to 2003 Rams + 2018

From another board

This game, and year, reminded me of the 2003 team in some ways. This Rams team will go to the next step unlike that falling apart 2003 team...Goff for sure will take another big step, and the rest should follow. The 2003 defense was not so solid like Wade's can be. I trust Goff much more than Bulger, though I might like Bulger's tight window throws more.

I don't think the 2017 Rams were so battle tested like the Falcons (were with their first place schedule)---the 2003 team was very similar. The 2017 teams built a lot of its confidence on offense against bad teams (Colts, Texans, Giants, 1st Cards game). And yes, we beat good teams, too....but we never had very good YPA against the man to man defenses with confident corners (Vikings, Seattle, Atlanta,

Goff and BUlger both had great years in those respective years, but that is mostly because everyone around them made it great for them. Bulger didn't win games by himself, and neither did Goff. The 2003 team beat very few good teams, and they had pretty easy schedule (No Eagles, Giants et al). By the way, this doesn't take away from the fact that if we replay that Atlanta game, we may win it with Brockers and no fumbles.

On the goal line pass to Gurley right before the half....I knew that play was coming--100%. We relied on teams to be so distracted by other things that McVay thinks Gurley will get flairs and screens and get a TD----but that wasn't going to happen gainst Atltana in a playoff game---nor the Vikings nor the Eagles etc....so, we needed someone to step up and dominate, and no one could; until the last 5 minutes of the game only 3 guys even caught balls. We need a one physically dominant WR who beats coverage and gets the dang ball---like the old Dez Bryant. Woods did ball though, didn't he!. But, Woods ain't that type of WR.

If you get rid of the Texans, Colts, Cards In London and Giants games the stats are totally different. 2003 was very similar. We beat a lot of teams that were down, and put up big stats.

We can go to the super bowl next year, but still, when your WRs can't beat man coverage you aint' gooing far. It seems wierd that they would resign Sammy for more than $8-9 mill....I mean 39 catches....why not sign a Torrey Smith type who can just fly down the field, but who isn't very good at routes (and thus, you can get for cheap--- $4-5 million).

Our TEs will produce next year. I really don't see Higs being the starter, and getting so many snaps.

Someone on the board said Trufant was ok, well he was in the probowl in 2015....we need a cover guy like that, and then. We will be a different team.

I won't be surprised if we go 10-6 or 11-5 at best next year because of our schedule, but I know Goff, Woods, Gurley and Kupp will come through, but will they do with the fading Whit? I think the defense will get better when we get a 'real' nose tackle, one fast cover corner (remember Jeremetrius Butler---he wasn't a complete corner, but he could play man on man at a high level!).

So, too early to transition to the offseason?

The best thing about this team and the staff we have...players are finally going to WANT to play here. I think our number 1 goal this offseason (outside of retaining our own players) FA wise should be.....now bare with me....Jimmy Graham. ONLY at a decent cost. At the very least, think of the room he opens up. I think McVay could get the very most out of him. I know a lot of people will hate this. But another blanket for our young franchise QB is a great idea. Graham, TGII, Woods, Kupp, and potentially retaining Watkins. We would be leaving that 29.9 PPG in the dust.

Why no “Tavon” motion plays?

They never gave him the ball. ATL has a lot of speed so I didn't understand why we didn't at least hand him the ball a few times. even quick screens.

Yes, me too. At least giving them something else to defend.

You’d think that focusing on stopping Gurley AND TA off this motion would have freed up some things downfield. The Falcons still managed tight coverage just trying to stop Gurley (who should have gotten more opps as well).

In any case, gotta give them mad credit, they played really well on the road.
