Welcome back Kevin Demoff!

Can’t a guy have a little fun around here? If I can’t walk down some of the dusty hallways of this crap hole and stir things up, I might just go mad. Mad, I tell you!
Just wanted to make sure you weren't wandering aimlessly. We each have our own moderation rooms. It was really embarrassing for one of our former mods when we allowed that kind of stuff around here.

Los Angeles Rams Sweep All Three of Conference's NFL 101 Award Categories

NFL's top players and coaches of the 2017 regular season named winners of the 48th annual NFL 101 Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (January 11, 2018) – The remarkable turnaround of the Los Angeles Rams during the 2017 NFL regular season has led to the team’s clean sweep of all three 101 Awards for the NFC: Coach of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Coach Sean McVay, running back Todd Gurley and defensive tackle Aaron Donald will be honored along with the AFC winners—Coach of the Year Doug Marrone and Defensive Player of the Year Calais Campbell of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Offensive Player of the Year Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers—at a black-tie awards dinner on February 24, 2018 in Kansas City. The 101 Awards show will be broadcast on NFL Network at a later date.

The nation’s longest-running salute to professional football, the 101 Awards has annually honored outstanding achievements in the NFL based on votes by a selection committee comprised of 101 members of the national media. Founded in 1969, the 101 Awards has recognized many of the greatest players and coaches ever to take the field throughout NFL history, and this year’s class adds to the impressive list of award winners.

Leading the Rams to a remarkable one-season turnaround, NFC Coach of the Year Sean McVay first made headlines this season by becoming the youngest head coach in the NFL’s modern era. At just 31 years of age, McVay transformed the 4-12 2016 Rams into an 11-5 team in 2017, capturing the franchise’s first division title since 2003 and earning the team’s first playoff appearance since 2004. Coaching the Rams to a league-best 29.9 points per game, McVay also became the youngest head coach since 1937 to win 10 games in his first season.

ESPN: Rams Expecting Another Step Forward for Jared Goff

There's no denying McVay's is a QB friendly system; he schemes receivers wide open. The knock against Goff is that this is the only reason for his success. The implication being that any QB could step in and perform well.

That may well be true to a degree but Goff is quite clearly a talented QB and, going forward, is going to prove that he's more than a "system QB" and will develop into an elite type of QB.

The reason I'm so confident about that is the throw in the Falcons game to Woods on the sideline. The one Collinsworth (I think) raved over and described as elite. The Falcons had done a brilliant job of stopping the receivers from getting consistent separation, getting pressure and causing the OL problems. Under those circumstances, Goff had to step up his game and that throw was put in the only place Woods (and not the CB) could catch it. Those are the kind of plays you see elite QBs make. As he develops, that'll happen more and more.

Season Appreciation Thread

I don’t know what everyone else on this web site was hoping for at the beginning of the season, myself I was just hoping for not a losing season. After they secured a winning season my next goal for the team was to win the division. I wasn’t even thinking the team would be in the playoffs at beginning of the season. With having a new head coach with a new offense and a whole new defense coaching staff I wasn’t expecting much after their last season of 4and12. I was pleased to see how they were getting better. I’m looking forward to next season with high hopes. Sean has this team going in the right direction I’m very proud of the Rams it’s been years since I’ve felt this proud of the Rams.

The main reason we lost.

Many years ago the Magic led Lakers lost to the Celtics the first time they met in the finals because they were not prepared for the physical nature of the Celtics game, the willingness to do what ever it takes to win bar nothing, their ability to raise their level of competition and the fact that the refs let it go. I believe this is what happened to our team. Especially most of our receivers. The Lakers learned from that series and never again did they loose for those reasons. Our Rams just got their first lesson in play off football, NFL style. I hope they learn from it. We should be very happy that in just one season our team was able to get to this point and experience this.
Now I know some of us thought they saw similarities to the 99 Rams and thought this might have the same outcome. The fact is the 99 Rams had home field advantage because they were the best in the regular season and a passing system no NFL defense had really seen run like that before and this team, well if we are honest, this team had some holes, plus our timing on some teams we played was advantages. I am not down on anything that happened last night. I am of course disappointed, but I am happy for the experience our team got this year. I had a great time all season, all the way up to the end of the game last night. And this off season will be different than so many before it. So do not disparage my Rams in your disappointment. Look back on this year with fondness and look forward to more seasons where the Rams will give you excitement and hope for the Super Bowl because this is just the first step of many. Enjoy the journey.

Umm... yeah..maybe, but when you fumble two 1st half returns, essentially putting your D right back on the field with no rest, while burying your offense on the sidelines for long stretches, it's tough to overcome.

It eventually led to a defense getting worn down in the 2nd half, and putting more pressure on a young offense to get points on fewer possessions while down 13-0.

In other words reverse what happened and have Atlanta cough up 2 returns and I would bet the score would not even be that close... like maybe would have ended up 31-7 Rams.

Young teams thrive on momentum and they gave that up early and were fighting from behind all game.

NFL Black Monday Primer: Coaching hiring/firing discussion

Interesting that they finally fired Darrell now. Have to think Pete is lookin around the NFC West with some concern now eh?

He has to nail the hire of OC. If he does, they'll be right back in it and next year this division will be back to the nastiness of yesteryears.
I Honestly want the NFC West to be the Nastiest, Most Feared Division in All of Football, with the Rams sitting on Top of course!!(y);):D:yess:

Rams sign 10 to futures contracts

Ejuan Price is a player...he will come around....he beat Lael Collins, the RT for Dallas, and I think he has moves, technique and good enough speed, and great strength....he is a player, but where? He could be the worlds best blitzing ILB....ya, I know I am an idiot... :)

Yeah was glad to see him stay on the PS so far. He's got good physical attributes, great burst, and looks like a latch on and tackle LB'er that our defense could use. Seems very stiff though so not sure how good he'd be at edge rushing. But agreed that a blitzing ILB'er might be a good spot. I hope he makes a jump into year 2.

Coaches pay schedule. . . ?

I am so curious about this. . . we see the astronimical prices that Head coaches are being given, but I am more curious about the assistants.

Is there a specific pay scale? Are the head coach and GM afforded a price to spend on assistants?
All I know is, Davis of the Raiders said, " there is No CBA for Coaches", so I guess there is no set scale for assistants!

Since we're starting to talk about FA

Yeah Calais Campbell is ridiculous. He's the closest defender to Donald's level, albeit at a different spot. I actually think he played better than Donald in our game vs Jax this year.

Re: the cap space changing the NFL landscape, just wait until this offseason. Whiners have to sign Future Hall of Fame and Multiple Super Bowl Champion Jimmy Garoppolo, hopefully it's the richest contract ever too followed by him playing at a mediocre level but I digress. I expect the Whiners to drive up a lot of prices on players, and probably be in direct competition with us for some of them.

Good thing is the Rams have some good cap space, enough to retain the guys they want, sign AD, and maybe add one key piece who is an upgrade.

Overall though the potential for QB movement is what I can't wait to see unfold. Between that plus a draft that I like very much at the QB position, there's going to be a lot of team fortunes changing this offseason.

Campbell also slowed way down as the year went on. The last half of the year his age started to show. He has like 3 sacks in his last 9 games. Where as Donald just got better and better as the year went on.
