Foles vs Keenum!

Tom Brady's going to get destroyed by that Jacksonville defense next week.
New England is gonna roll Jacksonville and be in the SB.
I'm not that sure... who was the head coach of the NYG when they beat the undefeated NE in that super bowl?
Sure, Coughlin is'n the Head Coach... but he laid down the blue print for beating them which isn't really rocket science (pressure the hell out of Brady).
And... JAX has the manpower to bring that heat (2nd in the league with 55 sacks).
I have this feeling that Brady will be under siege all day and might... just might... end up on the losing end of the stick.

Really, this would be a great movie. The Fall of Jeff Fisher and the 2016 Rams, with three disparaged QB's in the playoffs in 2017. There has never been a story like that in the NFL.
Fish is probably talking to a reporter right now and taking credit for Foles and Keenum.
Thanks Jeff... for wasting at least 3 years of my fandom.

Pro Football Writers of America’s All-NFL team: 6 Rams

Rams Lead League with Six PFWA All-NFL Honorees
Myles Simmons

The Rams have received more accolades for their 2017 season, as six of the club’s players have been named to the Pro Football Writers of America’s All-NFL team — a mark that leads the league. Each player was also named to the organization’s All-NFC team.

Running back Todd Gurley, left tackle Andrew Whitworth, defensive tackle Aaron Donald, kicker Greg Zuerlein, punter Johnny Hekker, and kick returner Pharoh Cooper are Los Angeles’ 2017 honorees.

Gurley, also a likely MVP candidate, led the NFL with 2,093 yards from scrimmage, 19 total touchdowns, and 13 rushing touchdowns. He finished No. 2 with 1,305 yards rushing as well. This is Gurley’s first All-NFL and All-NFC award honor from the PFWA. He was on the organization’s All-Rookie team in 2015.

Whitworth helped stabilize the Rams’ offensive line in 2017, becoming an integral piece for the club to lead the league in scoring. Also a first-team All-Pro, Whitworth helped reduce the number of sacks quarterback Jared Goff took from 26 in seven games in 2016, to 25 in 15 games in 2017.

This is Donald’s third consecutive selection to the PFWA’s All-NFL team, having earned the honor in both 2015 and 2016. The defensive tackle finished the year tying a career high with 11.0 sacks, and led the league with 91 quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.

Hekker is also making his third consecutive appearance on the list. The punter finished No. 2 with a 44.3-yard net average per punt, with 30 punts downed inside the 20 to only four touchbacks.

Despite playing in only 14 games due to injury, Zuerlein led the league with 158 points scored. And Cooper finished No. 1 among qualifying players with a 27.4-yards kick return average. Only Atlanta’s Andre Roberts (38) and Seattle’s Tyler Lockett (37) returned more kicks than Cooper, who also had a 103-yard touchdown return against Jacksonville. Both Cooper and Zuerlein are first-time honorees.

The PFWA is made up of accredited writers who provide daily coverage of the NFL and its 32 teams.

Brian Schottenheimer set to be named Seahawks OC

the way i remember it the rams never moved the ball until they went to the hurry up offense. fisher was asked why he didn't use it earlier. he said he didn't want quick 3 and outs to put the d out there and tire them out . this was after 3 qtrs of watching drich run into the back of linemen and a procession of 3 and outs. then he simply refused to go hurry up against the cowboys and whiners the next 2 weeks, where the rams offense could do nothing and they got slaughtered in both games.

never listened to a word he said after that. horrible coach.

.
We pulled Richardson at half-time because he couldn't catch or block and he was directly responsible for the DE INT return for TD. We moved the ball in the 2nd half because the Falcons defense was more concerned with preventing us from scoring quickly. We got 1 TD back with 16:30 left in the game. That put us 2 TDs behind. We got the ball back and moved down the field for another TD. The Falcons then chewed up the clock and scored another TD to restore their 14 point lead. When our offense had the ball in the 2nd half we were at least 14 points behind on every drive. In those circumstances defenses play to not get beaten quickly.

Against the Cowboys we were destroyed by the 2 DEs. Neither of our Ts could block them and we were totally shutdown. We were 12 for 35 yards rushing and Bradford was sacked 6 times.

We played the 49ers really hard for about 20 minutes but it ended up a similar story. We ran the ball into the middle of the OL on the same play 16 effing times before Schottenheimer pulled Richardson and did the same thing with Cunningham. Bradford was sacked 5 times. In both this and the Cowboys game we gave up huge rushing yardage on defense and that likely swayed Fisher's opinion. I remember the game for Pead's absence. He performed decently against Atlanta and Dallas but allegedly he was suspended on a team punishment.

Vikings have a chance at making Super Bowl history

Yes we all know where the Super Bowl is being played this year, and we all know that no NFL team has ever played the Super Bowl in their home stadium. Minnesota has a shot at being the first to pull that off and make Super Bowl history but they won’t be the first team to have played the Super Bowl in their home state.

There have only been 3 NFL teams that have played a Super Bowl in their home state.

Super Bowl XI (1978): Oakland Raiders beat the Vikings at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena CA

Super Bowl XIV (1980): Los Angeles Rams lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena CA

Super Bowl XIX (1986): San Francisco 49ers beat the Miami Dolphins at Stanford Stadium in Stanford CA

Super Bowl XXXVII (2005): Oakland Raiders lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego CA

I know California has its share of NFL franchises and it’s a state with many Super Bowl worthy stadiums but what about Texas and Florida? I find it fascinating that only 3 teams have got to play in their home state in 51 years, never mind playing in their home stadium.

If Minnesota pulls off this feat it will be interesting to see how the tickets get distributed between the two fan bases.
Only 3 Teams, but it's happened 4 Times! The real record the Viqueens can set is Going to the SB 5 Times and LOSING 5 times! IF I'm not mistaken!:D ( I believe both the Bills & Viqueens have been there 4 Times each, and never Won!)

Why Todd Gurley should be watching Le'Veon Bell's contract situation very closely

I love TG. But I really hope he doesn't end up being like Bell and want to break the bank. I get the wantin to be paid part of this for all these guys, it's just that you gotta hope some of them are smart enough to realize meeting the team in the middle gets you better teammates and more success.

Tend to think TG is smart enough to know that, and hungry enough for wins to want to go that route. But if not, then I agree with @MadGoat if necessary franchise him one year and draft his replacement.

It's about the OL on offense IMO. Those guys benefit the run and the pass, and make everyone look better. Given that you can snap up backs every few years and sustain not only a good run game but protect your QB too.

Jrry32 First Mock Off-Season

Well thought out mock there @jrry32. But looking at the big picture I would be disappointed if they bring everyone back and only upgrade our front seven at NT.

Our defense needs to get better up front. I don't trust Quinn, and see edge OLB as a huge need not to mention value will be there even if we slide back in round 1. Rams are bad on both edges on defense in terms of contain and the rush. Donald makes up for the rush with his interior push, but IMO they need to improve at OLB to get this defense to the next level.

Bringing in an ex-Wade guy at ILB is a reasonable bet, but he's not a big upgrade for us there. Then you did add ILB with Esch, but he's a johnny come lately due to injury in '16. Much better choice would be Darius Leonard, who lives and makes plays in traffic and owns the LOS; I love that dude as a prospect for us. Still early and hard to say when these guys will go, but I do really like the midround options at ILB as I'm seeing them slotted right now.

CB in round 3 makes a lot of sense, deep position and Rams should be able to get some help there.

I want to see the Rams dominate up front on defense next year, i.e. massive improvement vs the run while maintaining a good rush and hurry/sack rate.

What is more offensive to you when watching an NFL game?

I don't watch the pre-game stuff. In the UK we have a different culture and attitude towards flags and anthems. I see it as politics and I don't want it in 'my' sport/entertainment.

Titans at Patriots

It’s a shame we got knocked out.

None of the playoff teams scare me. We could have had a legit shot.

I still think the eventual NFC winner should be the favorite, though.
Amen. We'd have done some serious damage if we didn't lay an egg against the Falcons.

The eventual NFC winner (hopefully the Saints) will have a shot, but I just can't see the Pats losing. Can't wait for Brady and Bill to retire. It saps the novelty and enjoyment from the game. All credit to them though (even though, I just threw up in my mouth a little), they really are that dominant and know how to win when it counts. Then again, can't be that hard to make the playoffs and get home field advantage with the Bills, Jets and Phins making up 6 of your games.

That being said! Lets hope the Jags/Steelers put them down so we can all watch the SB without having to hear about the "GOAT" for the next 7/8 months and how amazing they are.

Atlanta loss (very slight) silver lining

Those type of trades are rare, but Cleveland did not win a game last season, have 5 picks among the first 63. Bringing in 3 vets in Barron, Quinn & Tavon for say the 3rd rounder, pick 65 may not be a bad idea for them. Rams save some cap space, get a pick at the top of round 3 would be good value.
Mark Barron & Rob Quinn do offer up value to a Brown team. Fact is the DC is very aware of both of these veterans & the value they still might have to a true 43 defense. Browns DL is talented but young plus the Brown have had issues with the opposite DE post from DE Myles Garrett where younster Emmanuel Ogbah has been in Fail mode.Browns are also not strong @ the WSLB'er post & Barron would look good with Jamie Collins on the edges of the LB'ing unit.

While the Rams may not land draft picks for Quinn & Barron they could be used as a way fro the Rams to move up & trade selections with the Browns who own many picks & the are ultra high rounds pick to boot. First selection in each round.

My Strategy to keep the dynasty alive

Gilmore was a huge shock because, as I noted earlier in this thread, it was a very un-Belichickian signing. Because the Patriots rarely pay people.

Cooks wasn't signed - he was traded for and is still on his rookie contract.

Also, the Patriots defense is 5th-best in the NFL in points allowed, and best since week 5, so I'm not sure where you get that it's been awful this year.

If you look at OverTheCap and sort all players by avg $$/year, the Patriots' first player is Brady, #15, then you get Gilmore at #59, Solder at #111 and McCourty at #124. They don't pay guys bank-breaking contracts. They just don't.

You are right about Brandon Cooks...we'll see what they pay him.

Patriots D is awful in yardage, yeah they got away with it with the bend don't break defense, and it won't be shocking if they comes to bite them in the playoffs against a high scoring team like the Steelers.

How has Denver been since signing Miller to that record-breaking contract before the 2016 season?
And why can't I use Suh? They were a Wild Card team last year, and in 2008. They were also 8-8 each of the two years before signing Suh. You don't think that's a valid comparison to the Rams?

Denver magically didn't go bad because they signed Von Miller to a contract. They did because their QB situation got fucked up, while your Patriots have had consistency at that position. It had nothing to do with contract. If that were the case they would have no business being Super Bowl champs after signing Peyton Manning.

Dolphins, seriously??? 2 playoff seasons in 10 years and a .500 team? That counts? Not in my book.

Ndamukong Suh's attitude aside, the Dolphins have problems that stem beyond just that contract. Draft picks not panning out, QB inconsistencies, constant coaching turnover, etc.

You sign and keep your best players, and Aaron Donald is the best player on the team...maybe the league.

First Take debates if talk after ESPN story will fuel Patriots in NFL playoffs | First Take | ESPN

You know what? I've given serious thought to the possibility that this story was "leaked" by the Patriots front office to create tension in the team because that's when these guys seem to play best. I know it sounds outrageous, but if you play better under less than ideal conditions and there's really nothing going on, then create something. If that is the case, hats off to a brilliant move.
