49ers before and after Garoppolo

He's three years older than Goff, and yet, Goff is still better than him right now. I'm not worried about Garoppolo. We have a #1 pick who just had one of the best sophomore QB seasons of all-time. The only thing Garoppolo has on Goff is a quicker release, and Goff is no slouch in that area.

I think Goff has far more potential. Jimmy fell to the second round in part because he doesn't have a strong arm. He'll kill you in the short passing game, but he struggles when you force him to throw down the field. He doesn't have the arm to drive the ball. He has to rely on touch and placement. His passes in the deeper ranges will flutter a bit. It doesn't give him a lot of margin for error. Goff has a lot more arm talent, and he's a more composed QB in the pocket.

I gotta disagree with that opinion on Goff. Regardless, I saw the same issues with him dealing with pressure in college. Jimmy felt phantom pressure in college. He saw ghosts in the pocket. Here's an example of it:
InsidiousInformalCorydorascatfish-size_restricted.gif

He has a clean pocket, but you see him visibly brace for a hit and then run himself into a sack. He wasn't under pressure. He could have stood in, waited, and found a man. That was an issue I noticed on his film. He struggled when you took his first few reads away and forced him to stand in the pocket and throw down the field.

jrry32,
I so hope you are correct, sir. I watched a lot of SF games with Garoppolo on the Red Zone and was duly impressed if not rather scared by what I saw. He looked cool, calm and collected. Plus he's extremely mobile and throws well on the run with excellent accuracy. I know that Jared has a ways to go to reach of all of his potential and all and what I'm getting from your astute analysis is that what we've seen from Jimmy G is pretty much what we'll be seeing in the future.
I can live with that.....especially if Mr. Goff continues to develop as he did this year and become an elite QB going forward.

Sean McVay visits Mason & Ireland

I am still despairing over our early exit from the playoffs. NFL draft talk and the fact that the most we have to look forward to, is a meaningless Pro Bowl game and a Super Bowl which I can't patiently wait for it to be over. I will be an angry drunk if the Patriots win another Super Bowl because, my God, freak the Patriots.

It's such a long time before meaningful football comes around again...(grabs shard of glass and contemplates wrists...)

Me too.

BUT... We have a top offensive mind AND defensive mind on the staff. We have a QB who is going to improve and talent around him. And we have some really good pieces on defense too.

We're blessed fans right now brother. This is the time to relax and enjoy the beginning of what should be a great window of opportunity.

RIP Tom Petty: Cause of Death - Accidental Overdose

That was a fantastic show, and I always watched it, great acting with no support on set and with close camera shots which makes it difficult to pull off. You have to be able to act well.

Lowell was brilliantly done from both the acting and writing standpoint.

It's sad that Petty, who was a really good songwriter and that's a dead art, didn't have to die but a bad combo of drugs took his life. It's fucking stupid.

New 2018 NFL Mock Draft from Pro Football Focus offers unusual pick for Los Angeles Rams

If he can play RT until Whit is done or RG then I have no problem with a LT. It's something that needs to be addressed.

I'll get over it if they go that route. Just not a fan of a high pick used for a backup, since he'd be hard pressed to beat out any of our starters, even Brown/Hav. Not to mention our defensive needs.

I have a lot of concerns about our defense. Don't want to see a year two swoon.

PFT and MMQB conference championship game picks

:rolllaugh:

Belicheat is the best coach in the league at subtly flipping off the media and disregarding their questions. It's why they've always detested him, starting back in Cleveland, it's just that he wins so much now they can't pull him down. I can't stand the dude due to his cheating, BS win over us in 2001, however I do like his style in flustering the press.
He could be respectful... I don't know if it'll ever happen... but I hope he has his day when he's not as successful and has to deal with the media.

Sean McVay: PFW Coach of the Year

Congrats Coach McVay! You earned it.

*WARNING
To any Ram fan that clicks on that BSPN video. Be prepared to have your blood boil.

Sean McVay rightfully wins COTY. What do the two talking head respond with?:

Steven A Smith- predictably goes on another anti-Jeff Fisher rant. :deadhorse: Let it freakin’ go man! The dude is obsessed. Just odd.

The other guy? (Didn’t catch his name) Doesn’t agree with the pick. Says Billicheat should have won. Goes on and on about the glories of Billicheat.

NOT ONE WORD ABOUT OUR COACH THAT WON THE AWARD!

I just want to punch somebody.
Smith just can't pass-up any opportunity to Bash Fisher, and the other A$$-Whip (I don't know his Name either!) is obviously in lust for Belicheat! he made me want to ..well ..:headexplosion::puke:

Positional summary & cap look

Wait, the 130 rushing yards allowed per game was all on Davis ?
For 2016, the Broncos allowed 4.3 yards rushing per attempt, in 2017 that dropped to 3.3 yards per attempt. For 2016, the Rams allowed 3.9 yards per attempt, in 2017 that went up to 4.7 per attempt. 2017 was also Barron's & Ogletree's first year in a primarily 3-4 D, where both ranked very poor in rush defense. Those 130 yards are no more attributable to Davis than the 122 yards would be to Barron, but being part of the unit does make them somewhat responsible, and when considering both years, the Rams are in decline on these units while the Broncos are ascending with their run defense. No doubt some of that is also on the Rams lack of a quality NT, hopefully both are dealt with in the off-season. Still, Barron's jump from SS to WLB was far better than from WLB to ILB. For that last matter, same goes for Ogletree when moving from WLB to MLB and then on to ILB. jmo.

Oh good grief River... Did I say all 130 ypg were his fault? I was trying to point out that the PFF grades doled out for 2016 were derived from glue smoking or other nefarious activities. Also the dude was known to have run fit issues, in spite of his high grades in that season by PFF. Also wanted to note that the Broncos massively upgraded their DL this past season and he was still mediocre.

But anyway. I don't feel so strongly about the dude either way that I'm willing to go back and forth ad nauseum about it. I just don't think he's anything special and if they go get him in FA it had better be cheap. For me, given this impending massive amount of payouts that look to be coming, I don't want to see them add more of what they have--a JAG of a ILB--in a FA period where you usually have to overpay. This is why I keep saying wrt certain positions that if they're going to overpay make sure it's an upgrade.

Outside Free Agents

Dontarie Poe (him, Brokers and Donald would be #wow)

Malcolm Butler (if the price is right)

Rex Burkhead (unless we draft someone similar)

Andrew Norwell (young and versatile)

We can armchair QB this FA to death. Who do we resign/restructure/cut to begin with? Who gets released prior to FA? What surprise cuts happen on other teams? A lot to think about.

I'm ready to start mock drafting! If we continue to draft the way we did last year, I think the sky is the limit for our Rams!

So, what are your recent Ram headscratcher decisions?

Not really, If the guy had stayed healthy mebbe he would have shined big time in this offense. One thing is for sure Coach Mac would have schemed him in such a manner that he could show what he can do and, moreover, why the Rams signed him in the first place.
But the old adage remains true: your greatest ability is your availability.
Unfortunately for Mr. Dunbar he could not accomplish this requirement.

~ArkyRamsFan~
But he wasn't healthy when he signed.

PFT: Teams will be ready to spend in FA

On the Kiper Mock 1.0 tonight on ESPN, they talked a lot about Cleveland. Polian said they need another edge rusher badly. Maybe with their cap space and their number of picks, maybe you could get a top 100 pick for Quinn.... I would take an early 4th for him. Could package it with one of our 6th's and get a high 3rd rounder.

They think they may get their QB in FA, by promising that QB that they will take Barkley at #1. An interesting thought. They felt they could turn things around quickly if they can get Cousins.

If they go vet QB, they may be in the market to add more vets to help that young team. Kind of what the Rams did last year. So maybe Barron could be an option as well.

Inside 411 From The Saints' Coaching Staff Right Before They Choked

Maybe I'll do a thread on my boss. Don't want to hijack @Selassie I 's thread too much. :sneaky:[/QUOTE]

And I totally understand you need to tread lightly in those cases with people who are in the "know." Quite frankly I have a feeling that Reeves was a party guy, back then, if you were of the upper crust, you drank, but George Allen's favorite beverage was milk, so I am betting that factored in, but Allen was notorious for butting heads with owners. Reeves fired him twice (rehired him back) and Carroll Rosenbloom fired him after two preseason games in 1978 so I'm betting George was not easy.
