Twitter re: Rams & 11 Personnel

D'Marco Farr said that TE is the position that needs most improvement.

There are so many changes that will happen between now and August. I still have hope the upgrade at tight end will be from within. Everett flashed last year and so did Higbee.

With rookies it’s like in high school. The freshman all look gangly and full of pimples. Rare are the Gurleys and Lattimores that look like they belong from the start. I think Everett may be special, and Higbee can be that second guy, or possibly Hemingway.

Chiefs sign Darrelle Revis/and then release him

Not sure why you would quote a post I made at the beginning of the season - but M'okay. Doesn't really seem relevant now.

Well I didn’t notice the date on the post , but it was a good thing The Rams were able to keep all there young guys from last seasons preseason.
Isahi Johnson, Petterson, M. Christian, Blake Countess, Hatefield, & to see John Johnson come on was something I never thought would be possible.

Will see what happens with Tru Johnson.
—Troy Hill was also in the mix with those guys. Pleasant has those guys dialed in on reading & react .
I think it was impressive, & look forward to addition & growth from a very young group of players.

What Will Be Rams First Off Season Personel Move?

Those two cases were primarily about CAP costs, both warranted & both need/ed some alteration. My only regret is that the Rams apparently never even offered Chris Long a reduced contract, one he stated he would have accepted. Quinn signed his contract as a top DE in a 4-3 scheme, and injuries have reduced his effectiveness. Quinn has missed starting 17 games since he signed that contract. jmo

Agree about "offering a new/reduced deal" on Quinn.
He stayed pretty healthy this season and really came in the last 6-7 games. He's shown he can still be pretty good at times, but he is no longer elite.

Elite $$? No, save the $11 mil cap hit.
Reduced price? I'm for it. Drafting a pass rusher for the other side and we're on to something.

I think it would be good to keep as many quality starters as we can, and I think it would be a wise decision for Quinn to accept less $$ to stay.

FrantikRam mock draft - Vita Vea

Offseason:

Cut: Tavon Austin, Mark Barron

Re-sign:

Trumaine Johnson - 4 years $48 million
LaMarcus Joyner - 5 years $40 million
NRC - 3 years $15 million
Sammy Watkins - 3 years $30 million (Sammy takes this as an extended "prove it" contract so that he can cash in when he's still young after this contract is over)
Cody Davis
John Sullivan
Tyrunn Walker
Dominique Easley
Jake McQuaid

Extend - Aaron Donald - 6 years $120 million

Free agents:

Todd Davis ILB - many have addressed why this makes sense

***This would take some cap magic by Snead/Devaney, but I think they can do it. Maybe restructure Quinn if needed

TRADE: Rams trade 1st, 2019 1st, 2019 3rd for the Bears first round pick (pick 11) - Bears do this because they can pick up a WR later in the first round and need to accumulate more talent. The Rams do this because..

Round 1 pick 11 - Vita Vea - the piece that takes the Rams defense from "really good" to "super bowl". McVay/Snead have already shown the willingness to sacrifice premium picks to make the team better with the Watkins trade - this makes too much sense IMO. Rams will be strapped cap-wise for a few years after this, so foregoing a first round pick in 2019 to get a better player might be the best move the team has to make. Many will probably scoff at the idea of trading a future first round pick, but the Rams in the perfect situation to do so - by bringing back most of the pieces, they're built to last

Round 3 - Billy Price, G/C Ohio State - good depth and get our future center

Round 4 - Jamarco Jones T - needs work in pass pro, but a solid developmental T for us. Might not be a LT in the NFL, but provides solid depth

Picks 5-7 - BPA to build depth - don't know too much about the later round prospects right now, but this is what I would do so far
I love the idea of getting Vita Vea, But I don't know about paying this^ kind of price!!

Summary:
A 4-year starter who was dismissed from Oregon’s football program due to a DUI arrest. Transferred to Utah and instantly made an impact for the Utes. He has ideal size for the position to play on the outside and given his versatility he could play in the slot as well. He is a little hesitant off of the line of scrimmage and doesn’t have the route running ability or the craftiness to make up for his lack of get off. He shows the ability to win on outside releases and when he has to, he’s able to re-route himself by reading the defense and reacting during the play. He does not have a large repertoire of route combinations so that is something that will need to be developed over time at the next level. His natural hands will go a long way, however, and he suffered from poor QB accuracy and has gotten used to having to adjust for balls thrown out of his radius. The suddenness he possesses will throw off defenders, especially after his hesitation step he uses often when releasing. Always seems to have a keen awareness of where he has to go and where the first-down markers are. His great body control and ability to win when contested makes him a third-down gem. He is going to likely make his money after the catch, with his ability to make a man miss and with how smooth of an athlete he is. However, ball carrying tendencies to hold the ball with one hand could be an issue in the league. Overall, this is a receiver that has the ability to play outside or inside but will need to develop as a route runner to start on the outside. He is going to need to go to a team that has a veteran star or two in front of him that can mentor him and teach him the game. Still, he has the ability to be a relatively good football and a playmaker at the next level.

ESPN: 5 Ways Rams GM Les Snead Saved His Job

My question is how many drafted players or free agents didn't work out because of inferior coaching ?
Foles and Keenum come to mind .

My question might be how many drafted or free agent players did succeed only because of Fisher ? Other than DB's, did Fish have any personal success stories influencing the 'quality' or training-up of new recruits ? And perhaps the defensive players were more likely influenced by the far more successful DC Greg Williams, so how much credit is due Fisher even with the DB's ? Fisher could see talent, he just didn't know what to do with it once he had it. Whether it was ego or a controlling personality, I don't know, but he couldn't land a decent OC, QB coach or OL coach to save himself. Fisher was loyal to a fault with some of his veteran players & coaches, and was apparently well liked among them, but this wasn't reciprocated in terms of quality performances. How many former players and coaches have come out supporting Fisher since his being fired other than Dave McGinnis ?
As for Snead, about the only recruit I can hold over his head is Greg Robinson, although even that may be questionable when discerning how much influence he had while Fisher was the controlling factor. jmo.
