DTR Podcast Ep.63: Potentially tagging both, LaMarcus Joyner & Sammy Watkins? feat. DT Deadrin Senat

I talked about it on the podcast. The Rams can tag Joyner and sign him to a long term deal and then can use the tag to tag Watkins.

Actually no, once used it is used. If the tag is withdrawn...with or without a contract, it is used and can not be reapplied. The signing of the contract would be a withdrawal of tag, and count as such. Note that the tag offer doesn't need to be signed by player, withdrawal after offer made uses it up.

River's Post Senior Bowl Mock ...

My final mock until the Combine, I promise.

OK, I decided to flip this mock on its backside with something a bit more unexpected, a free agency which is dominated with defensive pick-ups and another draft leaning heavily towards the offense. Yup, you heard that right. I've also included two trades, something which I hadn't added previously. 1) The Jets are a rebuilding team and will likely draft a QB with their first pick, but they also need OG's for protection and run blocking while getting the poor guy up and going before he gets himself killed. As jrry mentioned earlier, they also have little in the way of an edge rush, so I offer both Quinn & Brown for N.Y.'s 2'nd & 3'rd round draft picks. 2) The Rams are looking for an eventual potential LT that hopefully may someday be able to occupy Whitworth's shoes, so we trade both our new picks from the Jets (#37 & # 72) in order to move up into Buffalo's second 1'st round pick at #22. This trade works out quite fairly with the NFL Trade Value Chart. This mock allows us to strengthen our OL depth and prepare for the eventual departure of Whitworth, it replaces our primary need at #1 CB with what I believe is a better player, and quite possibly puts our defense in the 5 - 10 rank.

CAP cutting Austin, Barron & Quinn adds over $21mil. to our already previously scheduled $45mil. of available CAP, and all three of these positions can be improved upon for far less money. Extending Saffold now also saves CAP in 2018 as well as preserves a top Lineman for our team's future as we look towards 2019 when both Havenstein & Brown could enter free agency. Finally, Tremaine Edmunds looks like the prototypical pass rushing OLB college prospect we all covet with excellent speed and great length. I added Rogers to the 53 for his additional pass catching skills and would love to see strengthened blocking for our RB's & QB. Butler will sign for less than TruJo has been costing us and Norwell will essentially be taking the CAP space of Watkins had I instead chosen to re-sign him. With approximately $66.mil in available CAP space, signing the 4 new free agents and re-signing the players we want to keep shouldn't be all that difficult, so I present you with the team which will take us to next years Super Bowl ...

Traded : Robert Quinn & Jamon Brown to the Jets

Extend : Donald & Saffold.

Lol Nice mock @Riverumbbq! Stop copying or at least stop whispering things into my ear at night while I'm sleeping! haha

Love the Norwell pick up (obviously lol), and the trade the the Jets! lol
As far as your mock goes for some reason I'm never been sold on Malcolm Butler outside of being in NE. Just always seemed to me to be a system type of player. Maybe I'm biased? IDK

I wouldn't let Sammy walk either. I think he'll only get better with us in time more than anybody that we can pick up this year. IDK the financials how you set everything up so maybe under this situation we absolutely could not afford him.

P.s. like that Davis Pick up but I WANT Bowman! :D

The Rollover Cap

If they are looking for a way to game the system the won't be offering less. Paying most of it upfront is a way to in effect increase the amount of cap dollars your team spends, compared to other teams - giving you a competitive advantage, albeit not a ginormous one. The Jets, as a NY area team, likely have more total revenue than some of the smaller market teams, and their ownership may wish to take advantage of any loopholes to bring their extra revenue into play.

SpaceX Launch of Falcon Heavy Set for Today (maybe?)

You DO underatdn that he is not self-financing these companies, right?

SpaceX is privately owned. So, a small group of investors, who are intimately knowledgable about the financial condition of the company and associated risks.
Some background:
http://time.com/space-x-ten-things-to-know/ (check out item #7 - is SpaceX profitable?)
Some funding information (Musk appears to have sunk the "seed money", then it's been others:
https://www.quora.com/How-is-SpaceX-funded

So, for SpaceX, which has a small, "in-the-know" group of investors with money at stake, I agree, I'm OK if they don't turn a profit. Smaller group of people who can get burned.
(BTW, SpaceX appears to be doing well financially - although that can't be verified)

Tesla (the car company), is an entirely different matter. That is a public company, with hundreds of millions of shares outstanding. That's hundreds of millions of people who could be harmed - either directly, or indirectly (notice all the mutual funds that are invested):
https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/TSLA/holders?p=TSLA
Also note who ISN'T on that list of Direct Holders (Elon Musk).

So, in the case of the publicly held car company, yeah, I'd care if it's profitable... if I owned stock (which I do not... and would not).

That thing goes belly up, the market capitalization is over $54 billion!
And don't be fooled. Government monies are in the equation as well.

ANY FREE AGENTS?

Easley and Walker are set to become unrestricted free agents on March 14 at the start of the new league year.

LOOK BACK, LOOK AHEAD

Entering training camp, many outside of the building believed the Rams’ starting front would be comprised of Easley, Brockers and Donald. With defensive end Robert Quinn transitioning to outside linebacker, Easley seemed like the obvious choice to complement both traditional starters.

But after tearing his ACL early in training camp, Easley was placed on the Injured Reserve list and coordinator Wade Phillips was forced to tweak his defensive line rotation.

Brockers started out the year as the club’s nose tackle, but was moved to the outside during the Rams’ Week 4 contest against the Cowboys. The LSU product took full advantage of the added space, making many standout plays throughout the season. That move allowed Brockers to showcase his pass-rushing ability, recording 4.5 sacks in 2017 after totaling zero in 2016.

Finding a replacement for Brockers in the middle, however, proved to be a bit of a struggle for the Rams. Walker and Smart both spent time at nose tackle and became key rotational pieces for the unit. Westbrooks was also a key part of the rotation at nose tackle, starting nine game for the franchise this year.

Finally, Donald once again proved why he is widely considered the best interior lineman in the NFL — recording a team leading 11.0 sacks and a league-leading 91 quarterback pressures. His phenomenal campaign earned him his fourth-consecutive trip to the Pro Bowl, third All-Pro designation, and first AP Defensive Player of the Year award.

Donald’s pending contract negotiations will remain a priority for L.A. at defensive line moving forward. But the fourth-year pro still has one more year remaining before he will officially hit free agency in 2019.

Jake Ellenbogen's 2018 Top Defensive Players Free Agency Prediction

It could come down to which one is easier to replace. For me it is Barron. He is a better fit in a 4/3 than an inside lb in a 3/4. There will be free agents available that could fill his role. There are better run stuffers. Plus are we starting to see Baron break down physically? Go bigger and preferably younger. And cheaper.

Quinn may prove to be harder to replace. If the Rams can't land one of the top three pass rushing OLBs in the draft. He may be less productive than he was in the past but he is still productive. Signing other priorities may make cutting or trading Quinn unavoidable but I'd prefer they keep him and add someone in the draft too.

Problem I have with replacing Barron is in the middle of the season he was rated one the best LBs in the NFL. That's no small feat. I think the true problem was not having a true NT and having guys rotate in thst spot that are not run stuffers. Depends on how our FO attacks FA and the draft this year. They might be completely happy with him. We will find out soon enough

Downtown Rams Podcast Ep.62 feat. Joe Branham of Rams Showcase

Joe Branham and I talk about the latest cornerback situation for the Rams following the potential loss of Trumaine Johnson and injured Kayvon Webster. We also talk about potential free agent targets for the Rams, who the team should re-sign and weigh the idea of drafting the "Best Player Available" or "Need" on the 62nd episode of the podcast.

OldSchool Mock #2

I like the idea of trading Barron instead of just cutting him, but I don't see how you get a 3rd for Quinn, but only give up a 4th for Talib.
But again, I like the idea of trading over cutting.

TJohnson at $13mil? If he's willing to take that, sign him. Jenkins signed for $12mil two yrs ago.

I am of the thought that we now have a playoff roster. Why gamble by trying to save a few bucks while losing some of your top players in the process? Give Joyner and TJohnson their $$ (if they will take those deals you proposed) and lose some of the lesser players.
