RIP Jerry Maren...The Last Munchkin

Alas, the end of an era. For it seems that now the only thing found at the end of the yellow brick road is a wonderful memory.....(n)....oh, and a large empty can of yellow paint. Rest in peace, my diminutive little friend. :)

Jerry Maren, born Gerard Marenghi, the last living munchkin from the “Wizard of Oz” has died, his niece told Fox News.

Stacy Michelle Barrington confirmed his death to Fox News, saying he died more than a month ago but the family decided to hold off on sharing the news with the media. She heard of her uncle's passing through an aunt and cousin.

“I wish I had grown up with him and had spent more time and being around him growing up," she told us. "I’m grateful to have had such important people in my family. Uncle Jerry would want the legacy of the 'Wizard of Oz' to continue.”

The 98-year-old actor died at a nursing care facility in San Diego, Calif.

The actor played many roles over the years, however he was best known for his time as a lollipop-toting munchkin in the classic film.

Jerry Maren, center, is best known as his role as the lollipop-toting munchkin in the "Wizard of Oz."

Maren, recalled being cast for the movie in a 2009 interview with the New York Post.

"I was just out of high school in Massachusetts and appearing in vaudeville Times Square with an act called Three and a Half Steps. I was approached by a casting agent who said, “We need little people who can sing and dance.”

He had never met another little person before filming “Oz.”

“No, not until I got to MGM and there were 124 of us — young boys, young girls, old guys and old women,” Maren said. “We were all paid $50 a week because we didn’t have agents. They thought we were stupid, but we knew we were getting the shaft. Toto was getting $150 a week," he added.

Maren had plenty of screen time in the classic movie, which he worked on for "about two weeks."

"Whenever they needed a Munchkin extra in another scene, I was in there. I loved Judy Garland. She was an angel to work with."

The Lollipop Guild member was previously the subject of a March 2016 death hoax. The reports were shot down at the time by Maren’s close friend Steve Cox.

Maren's wife, Elizabeth, died back in 2011 at age 69.

OTA Number 7

Brockers has really turned into a vocal leader of this defense. I love to see that not only is he there, but he's also helping his teammates after practice. Respect to the big dog.

Love seeing Holt helping with our staff. Just seems right doesn't it?

5) Not that it's happened often, but whenever a Rams receiver doesn't make a catch when going over routes with quarterbacks, the QB will call the player back to get in a good rep after the rest of the line is finished. It's an example of the little things needing to be right during this time of the year.

I love this. It's why this offense is going to be better and that's a scary damn thought for the rest of the league.

MMQB continues without Peter King: 6/4/18

We are getting closer to D-Day. If Donald and the Rams cannot come to terms before the season starts, do they negotiate during the season? I think both sides did not want to do that last season. If they do not come to an agreement, do the Rams tag him next year for around $15 million and would Donald play for that? Would Snead use the tag as leverage to get Donald to sign longer-term? If Donald and the Rams cannot come to terms at all, and he refuses to play for the tag amount until the last half of the season, would Snead tender him as a first round pick and wave goodbye?

No worries, according to Demoff "they are close."

R.I.P. Dwight Clark

Ok. Last entry here for me. I’m starting to feel dirty.

My childhood buddy married the Niners team doctors daughter back in the early ‘90s. I was waiting in the line to get into the reception, when I turned around and there was Dwight Clark and George Siefert behind me.

Being the smart azz I am I turned to Siefert (then current Whiner coach) and asked, “they let Ram fans in here, right?” Ol’ George had a pretty good sense of humor, though. He responded, “awe, they let anybody in.” We got a good laugh. (n) Although we didn’t talk the rest of the night.

Anyway my whiner-lover brother just made this on Photoshop:

Homegrown talent vs free agency

It takes balls, but the more research, homework and trust in scouting you do lessens the chance of failure. Understanding OL players that were good college wrestlers and have learned the use of leverage is a prime example.
These Rams are doing just that, using cutting edge technique and its paying off.
Allen’s Bro is also in the NFL.

Snead was part of drafting Greg Robinson with there Great Auburn connections.Inam a huge Snead guy, but some of the things The Rams did were flat out unthinkable??

McVay has balls & is confident. There is a lot of good examples, plus some very good luck.

Rosey and Bobby

What? No mention of the 2nd gunman? Multiple witnesses claimed there were 13 shots fired, Rosey Grier being one of them. Three shots from a .22 hit Bobby, one hit his friend just behind him, Paul Schrade, and 9 bullet holes total were found in the walls and the podium. Sirhans revolver only held eight bullets. Curios that six of the bullets dug out of the wall were 9mm.

The evidence goes beyond "conspiracy theory". Paul Schrade, who was standing right there and was also shot, has always said there was a second gunman.

Just the facts ma'am.

Ok, Ebay Made Me Sad.

Every Purple Heart medal should be more valuable than any baseball card.

It's rare for a piece of paper to survive 100 years, but it was almost impossible for many men and women to survive some of the wartime encounters they did.

It saddens me, too, that we so undervalue the truly meaningful while speculating mightily on the truly trivial...

Michael Brockers savors what the Rams defense might become

L.A.’s defense improved significantly during the first season of defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. Its run-stopping did not. Five different teams averaged 5 yards per rush or more against the Rams. They gave up 15 running touchdowns and could only hold the foes to 4.7 yards per rush, second worst in the NFL (to the Chargers).

To be fair those averages are raised a lot by the terrible run defense in the first 6 games. I just added it up and even killing AZ and only giving up 25 yards to them the Rams gave up 862 in the first 7 games.

Thats 837 in the first 6 if you take out the AZ game. About 140 a game.

And the 49ers game at the end of they year I can't hold against them. That was 169 yards right there.

When they settled in a bit it improved, though the general point is correct it needs to get better.

We should not underestimate how improved this ‘18 Ram team is over the ‘17 version...

On offense I expect a little better result in moving the ball but I am still a little concerned with the red zone. TE and/or WR needs to step up as red zone target.

On defense if we take the We not Me attitude the sky is the limit. There will be some shuffling around at the LB positions until rookies are comfortable and Wade knows what he has tHen watch out. The D could to the golden ticket to the SB.
