Bell has BENEFITED from having other stars on his offense. People can't ever stack the box against him because they'll get torched by Big Ben, AB, JuJu, etc. He's also had an above- average O-Line for practically his entire career. The same can't be said for Todd.
Bell benefited from a good OLine, the best WR in the game, a perennial Pro Bowl QB and was on the top yardage offense. Yet he wasn't able to come close to equaling TG last year not even close. Eight less touchdowns and 100 less total yards in 60 more total touches. Yeah that's right he produced fewer touchdowns and fewer yards in 15% more touches. They are both good back. Last year Gurley was hands down superior, and statistically it wasn't close.
Why is "benefited" considered a negative? It's basically saying if he didn't have basic requirements for a good offense, he wouldn't be any good.
I'm not saying he wasn't better than TGII, because that's how I ranked them for 2017. But in the grand scheme of things I consider them equal, again I can't place either one above the other.
Gurley has been the focal point of the Rams offense since he started his first game. He hasn't had nearly the weapons around him as Bell. And I can't believe you seriously don't think that 5 YPR isn't a big difference, especially when Bell is only averaging 7.7 YPR to begin with. Gurley is almost getting twice the yardage every time he catches the ball.
I don't. I think "yards per" whatever are. B/c he's not getting 5+ yards a pop every time. It gets skewed because of his long runs/catches. It's just as if a WR catches 2 catches for 4 yards then on his 3rd breaks a screen for a 60 yarder. He's not getting that big a "yard per".
I've always ignored that stat. Pointless IMO.
