I watched the game with a friend and first Architect I ever worked , Mike, ten years my senior ( we went to the ‘79 game), our wives and his brother and his wife.

I was 51 years old, been waiting a long time, and is to this day, one of the great afternoons of my life. No voice for two days, not even a squeak.
Not to be s downer, but Mike died st 80 yesterday - one of the good ones. But he did get to see last year - we talked about the games every week.

Wow - that escalated quickly.

Mike and I after SB XXXIV.
Not drunk or happy at all.

Throwback Thursday: Tyoka Jackson

I encourage everyone to listen because @jakebogen95 has an excellent rapport with Tyoka Jackson, who back in 2000 was one of the better free agent signings and I'm sure hiring Lovie Smith as DC was one of the reasons that Jackson did sign with the St. Louis Rams.

I love the beginning talking about Jackson's restaurants in the D.C., area, however, FWIW's I don't like Pancakes and never did. I have a compulsion about my hands being clean and I don't like sticky hands so thus, pancakes is last on my list although I'm not a breakfast guy, but if i do, omelette's are my choice. Also flat crispier waffles are superior to the fluffy Belgian Waffle again not a big Waffle guy, but the crispier the waffle the better, when I do have one, which is not often and that's enough on food.

Enjoyed how Jake found out that Jackson was close to going to Wake Forest over Penn State, however, committed when Jim Caldwell talked to him, who ironically ended up being the Head Coach of Wake Forest in Jackson's Senior Season in 1993 becoming the first African American Head Coach in the ACC. Caldwell was 26-63 at Forest, but had laid the foundation for the School to become more successful, in which, his successor, Jim Grobe became of of the Prominent College Head Coaches in Wake Forest history.

In the 2001 Super Bowl the Rams went with Rod Jones at RT over Ryan Tucker because Jones played really well in the playoffs, however, Jones missed the block on Mike Vrabel that led to the interception that should have been called back because Vrabel hit Warner in the head, but Tucker was hurt most of the year and thus they went with Jones. I'm glad that Jackson brought up the TE missed the block on Vrabel because Jones did block down on that play, but obviously we could go on and on about that Super Bowl and kudos to @jakebogen95 for having Tyoka extrapolate on that game, but Aaron Donald would have been the guy to have on that team because Jackson & Young were overachievers, but Donald is a Super Star.

Anyway great interview and I'm looking forward to the one more before training camp as these have been outstanding, thank you again sir.
Much appreciated man. It was a lot of fun and I'm enjoying the process a lot. I love just learning from these guys.

Counting down- Jersey #51

FWIW, LB's Joe Harris & Norwood Van were on of the finest special team players during their careers with the Los Angeles Rams. Under John Robinson Gil Haskell was his special team coach and consistently put out one of the better units, however, back then, special team coaches ended up being promoted to coach different units and in Haskel's case, he was promoted to running back coach in 1987.

Anyone into the AFFL?

Den, no joke, non-military people don't know what its like to adjust your stride in just marching (especially if you are short or tall), let alone running in formation...
Running in formation is an art form. Because everyone has to be in step and with the same speed. We ran the obstacle course on the last Wednesday of basic. Several of us sprained our ankles doing it. But with only 2 days left till graduation no one was going to sick call and get sent back 2 weeks. So the next two days of running in formation the whole unit slowed down for those of us who were hurt. On Friday when they gave us our physical fitness test we ran the mile and half 2:30 slower than we had on Monday. Fast enough for everyone to pass, slow enough for those that were hurting. Once done, 7 of us fell out for sick call. TI was pissed that we waited 2 days, but impressed that we had come together as a team.

Counting Down- Jersey #52

It will be strange to see another player other that Alec Ogletree wearing #52 this year. But if there were ever a guy meant to wear the horns, perhaps Ramik Wilson is that guy.

Shown here on the left (#53) last year with our very own Todd Gurley, Wilson will don the #52 this year, and provide a needed veteran presence in the middle of the Ram defense.

**By the way, hats off to our man @den-the-coach for his contributions to this thread throughout the years. As much as the countdown is a testimony to @DaveFan'51 , Denny has added some great pictures, and historical data to really make this thread special.

MOB Squad

Jacksonville losing thier nickel corner in free agency will hurt .
They still have one of the most talented defenses in the league but teams will he able to throw more against their secondary now.

I think our secondary could be better than theirs, I also think our D line will be better than theirs .

Both teams have talent but we have wade, our team is built like that Broncos superbowl defense and I'm excited!

Happy Jeff Fisher Day

These guys are predicting the year of the Fisher. They have 11 teams going 7-9

Browns may go 7-9! Lol

What a difference; 4-12 last year to 12-4 predicted this coming season. How'd they mess up last year so bad? Of course, I have no qualms with their 2018 predictions...lol

Well, our immediate Ram worries are now very few, huh?

About our OL...

This ‘18 season looks good for us, I think.

But next year?

Noteboom may or nay not be our starting LOT. Whit might still have it, although I don’t think we should count on it. But this next draft class is reportedly loaded with LOT candidates, so maybe that’s the failsafe position?

I doubt that Saffold will be affordable based on what we’ve seen in recent FA. Kromer’s gonna have to have a Plan B for LG in ‘19, I’m afraid.

Personally, I like both JB and Hav. Not love, mind you, but a strong like. And I also like as much OL continuity as possible, so I’m hoping that we can keep one.

I suspect that Sully can start again in ‘19, but we’ll have to wait and see. Allen, at this point, appears to be a promising potential replacement.

Many posters are pretty high on Demby as a potential future OG starter. I hope so, but must say that I’m in wait-and-see mode until evidence on the field rolls in.

Speaking of which, there is every reason to rest Whit, Saffold, and Sully during camp and preseason games while the other OL players get all the snaps they can get. I’m sure that this will happen.so the candidates will have ample opportunity to impress their coaches.

In short, I’m pretty optimistic about our ‘18 OL, but I expect some new faces as starters in ‘19. Perhaps as many as 3, or maybe even 4 depending on Whit’s health and the Rams ability to extend one of Hav or JB.

I’m betting that we draft at least 2 OL players next year and fairly high, at that. Using our 1st on a LOT would seem likely, based on current information.

Do we have the best kickers in the league, or what?

The importance of the kicking game is huge in the course of a football game. Punters who consistently pin opponets deep, making their offense go the whole field every possession is a huge advantage. Hekker has punts from his own end zone that ended up inside the 20. Huge field position change.

Add to that a place kicker who consistently kicks off out of the end zone negating any return and making teams start at their own 25. Zecker is also consistent kicking FG's over 45 and 50 yds, With the ability to make 60+ making the Rams able to score from almost mid field.

Rams rarely had to start deep in their own teratory, while teams they played did.

Kicking game is a huge advantage for the Rams.

Packers financials show that NFL made billions

Yes, I studied in Vienna. I was trying to be nicer than you had been. Probably a mistake. My original wording had expanded on it.

Why the heck are multiple posters lately bitching about non-egregious tangents to threads, anyway? It's not "promoting their own agenda" it is normal internet posting. It's like a few posters think they own discussions, or something.

Oh, and FWIW, my post had nothing to do with politics, but with cap and CBA issues - actually on target for NFL discussions.

Apologies for any snarkiness.

OK - I’ll play. And go back to my original point, with a different take. 5.4 million divided by 1800 player salaries times 4 years is 9600 yearly paychecks.

Rough math - $500 a player - that’s an issue? I understand it’s “ it’s the principle”, but come on.

That said, if it’s of interest to you, carry on.

Todd Gurley has M.A.D.E. difference on field with Rams and kids at football camps

I hope he and LeVeon Bell get paid.

Especially with the shorter lifespan of elite running backs, the idea that you can take one early and have their entire career on that rookie deal is kinda crappy for them.

I'd rather pay Gurley and rely on drafting for OL, LBs and S than try to find the next Gurley every few years.

For every Todd Gurley, there are a slew of Trent Richardsons (what the heck happened with his situation?) and no one wants to go through that.

Countdown to Camp: Rams Will have New Starters at OLB

I see him as a mediocre blind side rusher. That's the right side, btw, since the defense is looked at from its side of the ball.

His ideal side is the left side, where you tend to have OTs with slower feet but who mash better in the run game. I think Longacre could be special on that side. In Barwin's spot.

Got it! I miss-read what you were saying. I agree with you. When its all said and done that may be what actually ends up happening.
