Count Down - Jersey #43

Loved Cleveland Gary. I joked a couple years back, can you imagine his parents when they went to name him....

“Oh honey, he’s a beautiful baby boy! He deserves a name that fits him. When people think of our baby, I want them to think...winner!...oh what should we name him? ....I got it!!!”

Fast forward. You want a winner? How about our new safety John Johnson?

The Rams may have gotten even more than they thought in Peters and Talib

Totally agree. Woods is criminally underrated. I think after this season the Rams receiving core will be considered one of the absolute best in the NFL.
I just re-saw that Atlanta game: Woods was great. That hookup right before half on the 50yarders was amazing. Atlanta had 2 very good corners. I do think the Vikings corners can handle us....but that is about it. I don't like our matchup with the Vikings---and the 2017 shows us that in spades. BEsides that, we can beat anybody, and WOods and Cooks will be a big part of that. I wonder if Kupp levels off.

CAMP REPORT Fri July-27 Camp Thread

I went to Camp yesterday. However, I was hosting a fellow Ram fan from Italy and his family. So, I didn't have the usual attention to detail that I usually do. I first wanted to counter what was written by OP "Elvis" above. My intention is not to poo-poo his post but just say that what I saw was a little different.

- Offense looked good to a degree ; When it was 7 on 7 it really showed. None of the CB's could cover Woods, Cooks and Kupp. But, when it was 11-on-11, the defense made a few stops that the average Fan is unaware of. For example, the second team defense had the ROLB get past Whitworth on a play and ran right by Goff before he threw a nice pass down the middle to Woods. Most everyone cheered, but I shook my head saying, no, that was a sack. The second team defense made approx 3 stops like that against the first team offense in the first 12 minute session. ON another with some of the #1 DB's on the field..... Woods caught aan intermediate crossing route, almost a slant about 15 yards deep. Most of the crowd cheered for the completion, but what they didn't notice was Joyner coming to a complete stop bringing both feet together right in front of woods as he caught the ball. As the play breaks up and the offensive players go back to the huddle, about 3 other defensive players come and give Joyner a high five and 1 a hand shake, then McVay walks over and shakes Joyners hand, as if to say, thanks for not blowing up my starting WR. An example of why it is hard to tell who is ahead of who on the field.

- Mannion ; yes it's true that Mannion doesn't look as good as Goff. the OP states that the 1's go against the 2's primarily through each practice but he does not point out that Mannion goes against the starting defense mostly and Goff does not. With that being said, Mannion threw one of the nicest passes of the day ; a deep route down the left side to Reynolds who dropped the ball. I think Mannion is doing just fine considering who's protecting him and who is coming after him.

Other random notes:

DB Kevin Peterson - Kevin is now #25, previously #47 I believe ..... he was aggressive at anticipating throws. He made one pick by jumping a route and almost had a second. If he continues to improve, he will be in contention for the #4 spot.

Lamarcus Joyner - Joyner spent much of the early session, 1 on 1 drills, working with the QB'a and Centers getting the ball out quick off of 3 step drops. He played the role of the slot receiver running a quick slant. He also had the equipment guys throwing him passes from differing angles, up high, down low, over his head to work on his hands. The man is always working.

TE's - Higbee looks the same ; do not see any improvement yet from last year. He is still inconsistent stretching the field. I'ld say he's making the catch 50% of the time. Hemingway made a few catches, but his routes are usually shorter and near the sideline. WOuld like to see Hemingway get the same opportunities that HIgbee gets to see if he's more consistent. Cody McElroy caught some passes in 1-on1 drills what was non-existent the rest of the day. Same with Everett ; not many pays went to him today.

That's it for now. I hope to make it to one of the practices where they will be in pads so there will be more to talk about.

see, this is why we love getting different people's opinions on what they saw on the field. every person sees different things. and we get a better picture of what's happening out there.

thanks.

Mike Sando is a Tier Four journalist

ESPN radio was doing some team rankings yesterday. They had the Rams the best in the West (NFC). However, Mike Golic Jr. commented that Goff could take a step back. Paraphrasing that McVay used a lot of play action to help Goff and may have trouble this year. LOL like the play action isn't going to work any more all of a sudden. It's a big part of McVay's system. The run and play action look the same until it's too late for the defense.

I like that they aren't believing in Goff. He will make them look bad.

sciatic nerve pain

I have a long history of spine issues. I did a lot of picking, shoveling, and lifting in my job. Chiropractors were my best friend when Problems arose. Most of them are now doing more passive techniques now too. So if your worried about it find one that does. If your back is out of place then this is a cheap and fast way to fix it. If it is a disk that slipped, then you need a hospital.

I sometimes use a back belt. The kind that you see furniture movers where. I get sciatic nerve pain whenever the bottom two vertebrae go out of position. I was in a car accident and I get the problem 5-6 times a year. One or two days with the belt on, with normal activity and things seem to go back into place. The belts are inexpensive and I always have one around.

Now that you have had this fall it could be similar to my car accident injury. It may crop up every now and then once you get over it initially.

Dominique Foxworth on first take today

What did Aqib Talib say impressed him about Goff today? His deep ball accuracy. I think Aqib should know.

Full Talib quote from yesterday:

“Confident guy. You can see his confidence is rising through the roof with (Head) Coach Sean (McVay) and super accurate deep balls. He throws deep balls and they land in the perfect spot. That’s huge in the NFL. A lot of guys can’t throw deep balls. So, you find a guy who’s super accurate on them deep balls, you stretch that defense and then Todd Gurley’s got 200.”

Yea...those talk show people know the absolute square root of jack shit.

2018 NFL Divisional Power Rankings

I would rank our division even lower than that. I just don't see any scenario where SEA, AZ and SF are a combined "threat" to go beat up on anyone.

Put simply IMO, in the span of one year the Rams vaulted from bad team into an elite team while AZ went from Super Bowl contender to full on rebuilding cellar dweller, Seattle went from Super bowl contender to a borderline playoff team and getting worse quickly, and SF has gone from cellar dweller to mediocre in the middle of a rebuild.

Outside of the Rams i think this division is not good right now. As a collective it's WAY down from where is has been since about 2012 when SF and SEA were elite, AZ was a playoff team and even Fishers last place Rams were a feisty mediocre team.

Good timing for the good guys to get good now. :)

I dunno.

I'm not sleeping on AZ.

Bradford always finds a way to start out hot before getting injured, I think Josh Rosen is the real deal and they are getting back David Johnson who's seriously legit.

AZ v Seattle, at this moment, I'm going with AZ.

And no one knows about SF. If anything, I think they'll be up and down...playing way over their head one week and being inconsistent and losing a game they shouldn't the next.

The NFC West isn't the AFC East.

I think we'll do very, very well, but not because this ends up being a slack division. Rather, I think the Rams are destined to be something very special.

LeRoy Irvin is one of my favorite Ram players of all time. He always had a knack for making big plays on defense. One of the best corners the Ram organization ever had.
