The Rams have enjoyed remarkable stability on their offensive line, but have to push two new guys into the starting lineup this year.

That means as they look at this year’s draft, they know they need to find two new apprentices.

Via Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times, Rams General Manager Les Snead admitted there was a need there.

“It will be a good year to try to get another quality OL that you can hopefully redshirt,” Snead said, “The goal is to get younger.”

The Rams started the same offensive line in the first 15 games of 2017, and it would have been 16 except they rested starters in the finale. Last season, the starting lineup was the same for every game.

But left guard Rodger Saffold left in free agency for Tennessee, and veteran center John Sullivan was allowed to walk into the market, where he remains.

They have a pair of last year’s picks ready to step into those roles, with third-rounder Joseph Noteboom slated to start at left guard and fourth-rounder Brian Allen moving into the middle.

“They don’t draft them to sit on the bench four years and let them walk away,” quarterback Jared Goff said. “You draft them to hopefully have them play one day.

“If their chance is now, I’m excited for them. I’m excited to grow with them.”

He’s excited as long as the protection stays solid, as the Rams’ aggressiveness in other areas means there are places they have to go young and cheap. And they need more young and cheap in the pipeline.

Men with beards carry more germs than dogs

Mountain Men and Trappers had beards. Imagine how germ ridden they were. My wife's uncle has a big beard and I've often wondered how clean it is. It never looks clean. You'd think with such a level of filth that they would all stink.

When I was a kid, I spent a ton of time in a local swamp. I inspected dead animals regularly and was far enough from home that washing my hands was usually forgotten until supper time. I held just about any insects I could find, ditto turtles and snakes. General illnesses were rare for me. So how bad can a dirty beard be? Mountain Men were very hardy, maybe our germaphobio is out of hand. Exposure to germs strengthens the immune system.

Notre-Dame Cathedral is Burning

Man I hate to be a jerk, but glass doesn't flow over time.

https://www.livescience.com/32119-do-old-glass-windows-sag.html

And because I thought that want exactly a good source:

https://www.cmog.org/article/does-glass-flow

That's the Corning museum of glass. Anyway, glass doesn't for down over time. Some cathedral windows are larger at the top than the bottom. The glass making process back then was super sketchy and they mostly installed the glass thick side down because that makes sense. Bowls and stuff that are as old or older have not flowed to the bottom.

Gosh I feel like a douche now. Sorry man.
Don't be sorry and you're not a douche.(y) You taught me something and that is always appreciated. Now the next time I'm told this in some tour I will correct the guide and bear the brunt of the assembled what a douche looks from the others in the tour.:D I'll start with my wife.:yess:

Players That Will Regress In 2019 ( One Ram Mentioned)

They were saying they were right after the first eight games of his career, when he was 1-7 as a starter. You have to take in the entire body of work.

Yup. Brees faltered down the stretch too. But no one's questioning his play because of his history. Goff doesn't have enough history. So opinions are just that. Opinions. If you want to look at Goff's history going back several years, he's always improved. I'd say over 4600 yards, 32 TD's. 15 wins and Superbowl appearance showed he did improve from the previous year. So he's still on track.

Quotes & Notes 4/15: Donald on hand and looking to improve after career season, Gurley “feeling good” as offseason program opens in L.A.

By Clarence Dennis

Following each media session, Quotes and Notes will bring you what was said, who said it, and what it means for your Los Angeles Rams.

“He’s got a plan, he’s so well thought out, he’s got some things that have worked for him, and I think within the framework of being around your teammates — you don’t worry about Aaron working on his own.”
-HC SEAN McVAY
  • Head coach Sean McVay said he plans to sit down with defensive tackle Aaron Donald on Monday afternoon to talk about the two-time AP Defensive Player of the Year’s offseason schedule going forward.
  • Donald, who has missed out on the majority of the club’s past two offseason programs, was in the building and addressed the media on Monday afternoon, however, McVay seemed supportive of the Pittsburgh native participating in individual workouts back on the East Coast.
“Unless I’m told otherwise, he’s a pretty versatile back and we are going to continue to utilize all his skill sets.”
-HC SEAN McVAY
  • As for his offensive superstar and the league’s leader in touchdowns a season ago, McVay said he sees running back Todd Gurley contributing as usual in 2019.
  • The head coach said his staff was trying to be smart, sitting Gurley from Week 16 through the end of the regular season in 2018, and then reiterated the Georgia product will once again be a focal point in the Los Angeles offense.
  • Gurley scored 21 touchdowns and tacked up 1,831 total yards of offense in year four.

“Same old me, back in Pittsburgh, doing the same stuff I always do — just working out.”
-DT AARON DONALD
  • Donald said he actually took “about two or three” days off following the Super Bowl loss — a vacation compared to the one day of rest he originally set aside while cleaning out his locker once the plane landed back in L.A. back in February.
  • Donald said he hopes to get in better shape and improve his game to do more for the defense — more than last season’s NFL interior lineman and Rams’ record 20.5 sacks, plus 41 quarterback hits, 25 tackles for loss, and four forced fumbles.

“Having these two guys — great edge rushers, I think that’s going to open up a lot more one-on-ones for us inside.”
-DT MICHAEL BROCKERS
  • Speaking of sacks from the interior, 2018 team captain, defensive tackle Michael Brockers says he hopes the Rams re-signing OLB Dante Fowler Jr. and adding LB Clay Matthews to the L.A. defense will make life easier for him and Donald next season.
  • Brockers had a relatively quiet 2018 — posting just one sack along with a career-low four quarterback hits, and four tackles for loss. He started in all 16 games.

“I want to continue to get the completion rate up.”
-QB JARED GOFF
  • Along with improving his footwork, quarterback Jared Goff says he hopes an improved completion rate leads to more wins, when laying out his goals for year four.
  • Goff’s completion percentage has improved in each of his three seasons — most dramatically from 54 percent his rookie season, to 62 percent in year one under McVay.
  • Goff’s equation checked out in 2018. He completed a career-high 64.9 percent of his passes and the Rams won 13 games for the first time since 2001.
“Days like today help getting past it of course, where you’re with the guys and you’re able to start moving forward in a different direction and towards a new goal.”
-QB JARED GOFF
  • Goff said the Rams are putting their best foot forward, after admitting it’s been challenging to “mend” the Super Bowl loss without an immediate opportunity to respond on the playing field.
  • Likely later this week, Goff will learn his opponent for Week 1 of the 2019 season — his first chance to bounce back from his Super Bowl LIII performance, which amounted to 229 yards passing and one interception with no touchdowns.

“Everyone’s going to get hurt — no if ands or buts about it — it’s just how you come back from it. It’s not the first time I’ve been hurt, it’s not the last time I’m going to be hurt.”

-RB TODD GURLEY
  • Gurley told the media on hand Monday afternoon that he was feeling good and taking things day by day following his “different” offseason — which the running back said was full of family time and world travel.

G/C at 31?

I’ll say it again, Nate Davis in round 3! Kromer takes pride in mid round gems that project as eventual starters under his tutelage.

Save the early pick for Simmons or trading down. No need for an OL early in draft when we can hold off for a guy like Groy, at worst, after the draft.

River's 2.O Mock Draft ...

Can someone please tell the draft analysis industry to just start saying "he has a big butt" instead of a good bubble? I'd even prefer this to not putting Edge in all caps.

That's not true. However, they aren't fooling anyone. They're evaluating guys' butts for a sport. It's okay. Get over it already.

Don't we politically incorrect guys evaluate girls butts for sport ? Probably more for pleasure than sport, but it's damn addicting. Just look at our very own forum offerings on boobs & butts, it's impossible to escape, even if we wanted to.
Those poor football evaluators, hope they don't have to take their work home with them, might be embarrassing trying to explain to the wife about their nightmares.

Rams planned for future, now hope midround 2018 picks can produce

@Merlin, I agree about Noteboom, Allen, and JFM. I'm concerned about Kiser - he didn't get even one defensive snap besides being active every game for ST. They talk like they think he's ready, but it's hard to say if he never got to play. Obo we just don't know. He never got to a real practice - and a lot of people look better than they end up when it's noncontact. We'll see on him, but I have no expectations for 2019.

Same (re: Kiser). Their moves are what demonstrate what they're thinking, not the coach and GM speak. They don't want to come out and say things that can make the players feel bad or adversely affect their mindset, which I understand. With ILB their moves showed they didn't trust Kiser on 3rd down, which is not a surprise, in adding Matthews (who can also go edge obviously). So yeah he's far from safe.

Obo is more of a modern LB for a 3-4 IMO, a good fit. Just a good all around backer who is best served on the edge (wouldn't want to see him inside on coverage either). So whether or not he makes a move with a big camp, which I think is a real possibility, that position is going to have a lot of competition this year.

Really looking forward to how they use these guys and who they try where. By the time the draft is over Wade and company are going to have a decent stable of athletic backers to mix and match even if they still don't have a slam-dunk blindside rusher.

Jrry32 First Mock Draft of April

Honestly I think Polite's tape shows so much more than most of the OLB's I've seen yet. He'd be a great addition at that pick. I know, we already have committed to Fowler, Ebu, Obo, and the late round guys from last year but you gotta go with the BPA with our 1st pick & it honestly looks to be him. @jrry32 your explanations for his poor combine performance seem plausible, considering what I saw on tape.
I think a DL with Fowler, AD99, Brock, JFM, and Ebu/Obo/Polite would be very nice indeed, backed by Littleton / CM. With no idea in what we have in Obo, drafting Polite at a high value position would be good insurance. In fact I like Polite's tape much more than Obo's. I don't know what his interview process was, maybe he was frustrated at no one looking beyond his combine & giving consideration to his 4-3 bulk mistake? I think Wade would love a guy like this.

Brooks: What makes a Super Bowl contender?

Possibly the biggest is ranking the Cowboys SB chances ahead of the Saints. Almost seems laughable, huh?
Why is that laughable? We beat the saints last season, and we are the youngest team in the NFL. I'm not saying we *are* better but both teams ended up with only 1 playoff win. I wouldn't say its "laughable" to think the Cowboys have a better chance than the team it beat.

Rams bolstered their pass rush, but don't forget about Samson Ebukam

At the top level the divisions between backup and average start and average and top notch starter are not huge. It usually isn't athleticism.
Gaining better technique, understanding hand placement and how to use leverage. Understanding how to really prepare to exploit a Tackles weakness. Which may not be very apparent to a young player facing off against a savvy 10 yet vet for example. Developing a good, consistent counter move.
Hands, leverage, prep, counter move....all of those things could make a 2 sack a year guy an 8 sack a year a guy.....and all the extra pressures outside of the sacks.
Time will tell.
I like Matthews being added to the young guys. Fowler, Samson, Obo....long on potential, short on experience.

I like Justin Lawler kid at 6”4 . As a rookie he was getting starter reps in early training camp.

Sean McVay w/Rich Eisen | Full Interview | 4/12/19

I will never get sick listening to coach McVay. He's such a class act and the real deal. 24-8 record let that soak in for a min. We are truly blessed to have him our HC and face of the franchise. He's a stud in every way possible. Furthermore Stan has never been cheap w/ paying our coaching staff or interfering w/ the football aspects. And Lastly he has such a great relationship w/ Les, there isn't or shouldn't be a threat of him leaving.
He is the next great coach!
