Rams pick up Jared Goff’s fifth-year option

not a bust but not a franchise qb either, according to the hacks at rotoworld.

Rams exercised QB Jared Goff's fifth-year team option for 2020.
The move was a formality. Speaking last month, coach Sean McVay said he was unsure when the team might begin extension talks with its quarterback. Goff has made big strides both years under McVay but has remained a player who must be managed and manipulated. It is possible McVay will begin dreaming bigger as Goff's contract nears its conclusion, though by far the most likely outcome remains Goff staying in Los Angeles.

.
Meh, I'm over stuff like this. If Goff comes out firing like he did last season, at that point people start to look stupid. As far as I'm concerned, he's managing and manipulating NFL defenses at this point. If Jared is so bad, what does that say about everyone who lost to him? Sean McVay isn't the one out there making throws so...

When are you going to Minnesota?

Looks like that is off...at least for now.

Honestly have no idea where we’ll be in 10 years. When we moved just south of Tampa, it wasn’t even suburban, it was exurban...almost rural. Now, it’s growing like crazy and while it’ll never be LA congested, it’s pretty bad when the snowbirds come down.

At this point, I dream of getting a used Newell RV or something super posh like that used and touring the country. Wife and I love the road.

NFL Draft Smokescreens and rumors that can’t be believed

I also think generally we all know where the players slot at the top of the draft sure some team could move up or down but like I said there feels like very few surprises. Part due to the fact the top team professes to need a QB and Murray is the consensus choice after that the QBs are a mystery. Every mock has the same 4 players at the top. Until we get to 22-24 it is the same names. As of now it feels like there will be no big curve balls for most of the first round.

Just because every mock has consistency doesn’t make them accurate. They could all be consistently wrong.

I’ll bet you can’t name the top 6 picks in order.

Rams Interview Megathread

Looks like a playmaker to me. Good size, and very athletic. Seems to be generating some late buzz. I don't have any first hand knowledge about him, but I like what I see. - DR RAM

Although his senior season was mostly wrecked by a hamstring injury, Taylor (6-2, 211) was a playmaker for Ferris State in both 2016 and 2017. He caught 47 passes for 1,017 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore in 2016 and 61 passes for 901 yards and six touchdowns as a junior in 2017.

Taylor also has experience returning kickoffs (17 returns for 489 yards, 25.8-yard average).

His early career production combined with an impressive set of workout numbers likely put him on the NFL’s radar.

At Central Michigan’s pro day, Taylor ran the 40-yard dash in under 4.5 seconds, hit 36″ in the vertical and 10-6 in the broad jump, did 11 reps on the bench press and finished the three-cone drill in 6.81 seconds and the short shuttle in 4.02.

2019 NFL Draft to shape the future of the Los Angeles Rams’ offensive line

Another fun narrative this year! And you can swap the positions to fit your own personal narrative. But people will say you have to draft an OLine we need one their too valuable and you can find the other position we need later rounds. Yes we need an OLine or two for depth, we have that same issue at a few positions. It's going to be fun again reading post draft comments, as always.
The comments and the freaking out is what I love the most. Can't wait

You know, Rams are in really good shape as they approach this draft...

Really interesting and thoughtful posts on this thread. I can see both the optimism of the OP (“no glaring needs”) and also the counterpoint (“Lot of holes to prepare for 2020”).

rams1fan, u didn’t mention what I think is the Rams current biggest need: NT. Yeah, Brockers can beef up and play there, but by his own admission he prefers DE. Frankly, it’s hard for me to see how the Rams pass up on taking a DL with their top pick.

On the DLine, AD and Brock fill 2 spots, but who takes the 3rd? I wouldn’t be thrilled knowing the Rams have to count on either JFM or Joseph-Day to start. JFM has been looking good, but counting on him to be a reliable starter...?

Hope the Rams have several DL prospects they like, because replacing Suh will not be easy. I think a wide body like Dexter Lawrence would be ideal, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be there when the Rams pick...
To me the Rams are looking for a repeat appearance this year, and that they kept Fowler and Brockers tells me that Wade really likes what Fowler brings as an edge rusher (he really did help out with the run on his side) in addition to his pressure on the QB and the versatility that Brockers brings. I mean Suh gave him the flexibility to experiment with moving guys around with pretty much zero risk when everyone settled down, with a healthy rotation of players throughout. I think the same applies to Brockers this year, he'll be confident adjusting to offensive alignments, to include plenty of four man fronts.

So if they are lucky to have Lawrence available, that would be seriously cool to see some true 0T where it applies (sorry, but just wasn't a good use for Suh or Brockers and we all knew it, hence all the beautiful consistent pressure we saw from 3T 5T especially after getting Fowler), but even that first round pick would never be rushed into anything, because Wade is realistically going to line up his guys where they are most effective against the offensive formations and matchups anyway. If Lawrence isn't there and Smart or Joseph-Day cycle in at 0T for situations where he wouldn't rather have Brockers on more of a bull rush, is that really such a bad thing?

I'm still very interested to see what Okoronkwo brings opposite or rotating with Fowler, To include last year's draft and the potential in this year's, I can understand their confidence and I'm very excited to see where it goes, especially after the Clay Matthews and the versatility that he brings to the linebacker position as it effects their defensive fronts.

As a fan, I really do have much higher expectations for our defense over last year, which was yet a patchwork ... and honestly still could be, but there is also the potential to draft a nice corner as well.

I really don’t care who the Rams take with their first pick...

Don’t go to sleep on Chase Winovich, fellas.

He’s being underrated by the pundits. Trust me.

I think he would be a perfect Wade/McVay type player. A multiple year Pro Bowler in this D.
Agreed.

Scouting reports say “great hands”, which is always underrated on draft day.

Super-high motor and a refined technician, too. Stuff that can’t be measured at the Combine.

I’d be shocked if Winovich didn’t become a solid NFL player.

FrantikRam final Mock Draft

I do love to see out of the box mocks @FrantikRam so enjoyed reading it.

Re: Campbell... His biggest weaknesses are his route running and he lacks plus hands, he's basically a speed burner the likes of which Fisher would be hot after. For the Rams, and this is something we've discussed a lot on this board not to mention I'll throw in a snippet cut from Vinny's recent and outstanding article on the Athletic (which I strongly suggest buying a one month membership to read right NOW, seriously it is one of the finest draft articles I have read and it's on our team and has a lot of inside information):

“There are some critical aspects that are applicable to every player,” Barrett continued. “Speed. Athletic ability. Toughness. That is universal for every player. But then you get into the positional stuff, where it gets more specific. For a receiver, it’s route running and hands and the run-after-the-catch ability.

Campbell hits the RAC part of the equation, but not the others. In this offense, route running and hands (lacks soft/natural catching ability) are basic building block requirements.

Yeah, Campbell will never be the WR that Kupp is. And he is not the type of guy that Snead and McVay will go after, especially not high up. While they love great athletes - it's only if they are great football players first.

Seahawks' Wilson Agree to 4yr Extension

Seahawks' Frank Clark reportedly drawing interest from several teams, could be traded before draft
The pass rusher's situation will definitely be settled when the 2019 draft arrives, per a report

Frank Clark may or may not be on the Seattle Seahawks in 2019, but his fate will reportedly be known by the time the draft rolls around on April 25.

That's according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who said this week that "it is a possibility that Frank Clark gets traded" in the coming days. While Rapoport said some teams are still waiting to see whether Seattle makes progress on contract talks with the franchise-tagged pass rusher, he reported there are "several" others interested in landing Clark and suggested the situation "will definitely be settled at least by draft time."

As for the actual draft, you'll be able to stream our live coverage right here on CBS Sports HQ (or download the CBS Sports app for free on any mobile or connected TV device) breaking down all the picks and everything you need to know during draft weekend.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo previously reported that the Seahawks were likely to listen to trade offers for Clark, who has yet to sign the $17.1 million tag he received in March. ESPN's Adam Schefter added later that any deal for Clark would have to include a first-round pick.

As the Seattle Times reported, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said Wednesday that he anticipates Clark remaining with the team in 2019, saying "we love Frank, obviously." But he also didn't rule out the possibility of the 25-year-old defensive end playing elsewhere.

"I'm not under the impression that he won't," Schneider said when asked whether he could confirm Clark will stick around. "I don't know that he won't ... (But) we are always trying to understand what the landscape is throughout the National Football League. If we didn't, we wouldn't be doing our job. We can't ever have our head in the sand with anything."

As the Times' Bob Condotta noted, Schneider also doesn't expect Clark to hold out from organized team activities or training camp -- even though, barring the pass rusher's signature on the one-year franchise tag, Clark won't be subject to absence-related fines. Rapoport reported earlier this offseason that the former second-round pick was planning to skip all workouts, including mandatory ones, until finalizing a new contract.

Clark, who had a career-best 13 sacks in 2018, his first season as a 16-game starter, has until July 15 to strike a long-term agreement with the Seahawks. Otherwise, the pass rusher can only play in Seattle this year under the tag.
I love it... I hope the die in Cap Hell and keep whiffing on the draft.

Could the Raidahs Be a Possible trading Partner?

I think very highly of Simmons, but I would not trade up for him. Draft picks are extremely important for us moving forward. We need cheap, young talent. There are a number of talented guys who should be available at #31. Enough that I'd feel comfortable trading down. I don't want to trade up.

Fair enough, my brotha! I wouldn't be upset in the slightest if we trade down as I again, expect it to be the case. Every year we all have our draft darling and many times it doesn't pan out where we land them. So although if we don't land Simmons I'll be bummed, I'll more than gladly accept our new acquisitions!

NFL's Passing Revolution Has Defenses Scared, but Draft Promises Help Aplenty

Lot of truth in that section there. And the Rams suffered an immense loss in slot matchup value the minute Kupp went down. Not to mention when it comes to the other side they need those versatile pieces in their DB corps to mix and match vs different groups you get playoff game to playoff game.

On the offensive side the typical TE development curve is going to be quicker if you get a guy who is smooth in the passing game with natural instincts and hands/body control and then you not only gain size for redzone and third down efficiency but you get a mismatch on LBs and a lot of DBs who are smaller as the nickel. It's why I'll say it again: Jace Sternberger. I just have a feeling that the Rams are high as F on him because he is an ideal fit for this offense, would insulate our TE room against Higs leaving, and he'd offer up another option down the road if Kupp misses time in the slot. If there's a trade down I am convinced he is in play.

Defensive side it's pretty clear the Rams have been looking hard at safety. And there are two in round one that would immensely upgrade us, with CGJ and Adderly both being safeties perfectly suited for this new era where they need to come up and match vs a Kelce type weapon. There are options in round two and later as well. Barring the draft going all crazy I have to think Les gets a safety this next week.
It's third and Kupp!

If one thing was crystal clear in the playoffs, is that we have a hard time covering, uber-quick pass receivers (who doesn't), like Kamara, and EdelJuiceman. Creative minds get those matchup nightmares, and some teams just exploit the hell out of you. It would be gold for us, if we found a scheme versatile Safety, or Corner with that ability.

“I was kind of licking my chops”- Brockers on what Fowler, Matthews add to the defense

While I do expect more from Fowler, I'm not sure how much we can expect from Matthews. I think he should see less snaps than he usually gets. Keep him a little fresher for late in the game and later in the season.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Fowler with double digit sacks and be solid against the run. With all the attention being paid to Donald, I gotta think Brockers, Fowler and Matthews should be getting more opportunities.
