DT Tanzel Smart attempts to crack rotation

Wade is very quick to move from his base D to a 2-4-5 D. If he continues to trend in this direction is more DL'ers really needed?

You're right, Wade/Henderson do have some serious versatility in their starting base front five. The reserve DL'ers have it too. I have not seen much to get excited about from our front 3 player DL in preseason:sleep:.

UDFA Copeland is a DL'er I like & I have seen some flashed from. He started @ NT most of his college career but his skills scream 5 tech DE in this defense. Morgan Fox does offer something different where he can line up @ 5-tech DE or one either wings @ ER.

DE/DT Franklin-Myers seems to have taken a few steps back from last year. Tanzel Smart who was strictly 3 tech & did nothing last season has flashed on a few but missed a lot of tackles on the field too in the 2 preseason gms. I am not a fan.

It would be awful if we kept a DL'er like Smart but released LB'ers like Natrez Patrick & Dakota Allen.

If Wade went with only five DL'ers I like DT Copeland & NT Jones to make the PS

5.) The edge
While I’m concerned at the potential lack of pressure from the edge from the starting group, things looked very good from the depth going against the Cowboys last week.
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Natrez Patrick and Landis Durham have all flashed. And there’s a chance the depth gets involved on defense this year.
Last year, the Rams started with Samson Ebukam and Dominique Easley on the edge. Easleyinjured his knee and was replaced by Matt Longacre. By midseason, Longacre’s play motivated the Rams to go out and trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars for Dante Fowler, Jr. In free agency this year, the Rams signed Clay Matthews. With Fowler and Matthews likely starting on the edge, the only 2018 edge rusher of the first three left is Ebukam.
So given the rotation on the edge, we could see one or two of the depth make the roster and contend for occasional playing time. While practice might outweight game performance for the coaching staff’s evaluation, their performance in these next two games won’t be without merit.
Patrick looks like a starter in his snaps, in that he's clearly standing out against 2s. I really like his instincts on the edge. This guy isn't just going to make the team, he's capable of pushing for playing time in what is suddenly a very crowded edge room.

Also, with the way these depth guys have looked I can't wait to see how Ebu has progressed this offseason. I have to think that Shula has improved him too. And if not, he's gonna be feeling the heat quickly IMO.

Lastly I think it's ridiculous to be concerned with our starting edge options. IMO Fowler & Matthews are going to be a hell of a tandem on the outside with AD crushing the interior. Rams defense will not only be top 5 in scoring allowed, but they will lead the NFL in sacks this season and terrify passing offenses. Bank it.

Can Kaepernick still play?

What would you do if the Rams decided to give Kapernick a workout?

I'd be glad he was on the bench and not starting. I'd hate the media distraction though. I absolutely think the Rams suddenly got desperate for a backup and decided it was Goff or bust.

If he was any good, he'd be playing. Period.
josh gordon just got reinstated for crying out loud. The chiefs RB who was released after video showed his scuffle with a female was picked up almost immediately. zeke was suspended for a similar altercation and did anybody doubt that he would be playing?
Don't you think that if brady or rogers, or even our own gurley did what krapernick did, they'd still be playing?

People want to make this out to be more than it is (political), but at the end of the day, the more talent you have, the more you can pull.

I saw krapernick play in person his last 2 years as a starter. He SUCKED. He ended up getting benched for gabbert. It was only when the 9ers were unsuccessfully trying to dump him the following season, did he develop a social conscience. he has become just too much baggage for a guy who hadn't played any decent ball in a long time, including his last 3 years with the 9ers. The attention he would bring just isn't worth it.

Good points.

He knew the 9ers were trying to deal him. He didn't want to be there and they didn't want him there. KNBR talked about the situation incessantly during camp. Like a petulant child he decided not to participate and just stay on the bench. That's all it was...until he was asked afterwards. He scrambled to find his words. Is that the sign of a guy who committed that act with a purpose? Notice how polished he was the next time he was interviewed. He suddenly had a platform.

If the local sports talk radio station is talking about him every day, and the local beat writers are at your locker every day, if the world was wallowing in a pit of social upheaval that bothered you so much you had to take some kind of action, then why didn't you make clear your anguish prior to that night? You had plenty of time and more than ample opportunity.
...and what has he done to help with all of these issues? With every conceivable channel of communication available, he has signed a contract with nike and made a commercial. Well at least he's getting his.

It makes you wonder if Kaepernick's kneeling was selfishly driven. Maybe he believed ( or had it pumped into his head by friends of color) that the only reason he wasn't starting was because he was a black QB.

So Which Super Bowl Loss Hurt More? Super Bowl 36 or 53? (Poll)

36 hurt the most. I’m also the age of the Super Bowl. 14 hurt but at 14, I was proud we played well against the vaunted Steelers. As a Freshman in high school, an alumni from my school- Lynn Swann, also played a big role in the game. Bitter sweet.

36 hurt because it was a game we were SUPPOSED to win. Embarrassing loss. But an alumni from my high school- Tom Brady, played a big role in the win. Bittersweet. Well much more bitter. Like a turd Sundae with a Tom F*ckin’ Brady cherry on top.

Then, at 53, I was sure my Rams would send Bilicheat and Brady into retirement and we laid an egg.

Ah. Let’s face it. All losses suck. Especially when served a turd Sundae.

Are We Going To Take A Step Back On Defense?

I pointed this out at the time to people going crazy about how that was the "new NFL", but the Rams and Chiefs combined for like 28 possessions in that game, and the offenses "only" scored 44 and 40 points. If you do the math on how often the Rams and Chiefs each scored on their possessions, this game was actually below average (% of possessions that ended in scoring drives) - but the number of TDs was higher obviously. It's similar to how in the NBA the best way to measure efficiency is "per 100 possessions" - because if a team plays faster or slower, their defense and offense can look better or worse than it really is. That typically wouldn't come into play in an NFL game, but the Rams/Chiefs was an exception to that given how fast the offenses moved and how efficient they were.

KC was perhaps the most amazing ever on O that day.

If it wasn't for those 5 turnovers, two of which lead to immediate TD's and the Donald sack/fumble recovered by the Rams in Chiefs territory that led to another TD the Chiefs could have put up over 70 points.

It was a remarkably unusual game in so many ways.

5 turnovers and 135 yards in penalties and they put up 51 points.

I'm glad the Rams won, but that may be the best overall job a team hasever done on offense.

A truly great game to watch, and an all time classic. As in top 3 games of all time.

Tom Terrific Sacked by the U.S.P. & T. Office ...

Tom Brady's attempt to trademark 'Tom Terrific' denied
Yahoo Sports

Shalise Manza Young,Yahoo Sports 2 hours 43 minutes ago

On Thursday, the USPTO denied Brady’s June request to trademark the “Tom Terrific” name, citing two reasons: it is a false connection and the name of a living individual.

Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver, 74, was given the nickname during his 20-year MLB career; he spent 12 seasons with the Mets, and fans and the Mets organization were not happy that Brady wanted to co-opt the name for himself.
One business owner went as far as to scoop black beans onto a Brady jersey, saying the New England Patriots quarterback had been a “black spot” on New York.
After the brief uproar, Brady said he meant no disrespect to Seaver and that he didn’t like it when others called him “Tom Terrific,” so the filing was made to prevent others from using it.
It’s all moot now.
“Although Tom Seaver is not connected with the goods provided by applicant under the applied-for mark, Tom Seaver is so well-known that consumers would presume a connection,” the ruling states.
“As such, the applied-for mark TOM TERRIFIC is refused because it identifies a name of a particular living individual whose written consent to register is not of record.”
Brady will have to stick with “TB12.”

Maybe he could trademark "shithead".
I think the trademark, from the dog that played it in the movie "The Jerk" may have expired

Contributions of young linebackers will create tough decisions as 53-man roster deadline nears

I’ve never been a big fan of keeping more of one position than you were going to keep before a certain position caught the injury bug. You can still only play so many people at a time, and if player one doesn’t work out in the first game then move on to your next player for the second game and call up your next player from the Practice Squad.
Plus you also avoid risking sending down a player down to the Practice Squad who who deserves to be on the 53 and now might get picked up by another team, all because you were trying to create a safety blanket for LB position.
