Weddle rocking the boat or talking about something else?

Why would he comment on a player or coaches from teams that he never played for?

And Talib was not traded until after they traded Peters and then acquired Ramsey. Maybe he was find with Peters and his mistakes leaving, but maybe he’s miffed that Talib is gone.

but talib really isn't gone. he's staying in LA so they can still hang together, if that's what they used to do. it's not like he's actually gonna report to the dolphins. he has no desire to go there and the dolphins have no desire for him to go there. it's a win-win for all involved.

.

Rams’ future offseason outlook following trade of CB Aqib Talib to Miami Dolphins

I think this will be one of those rare moments where you and I disagree Boni. ;)

JJ has not played too well this season. Certainly not anywhere near the point where he'd be compared to Littleton for a big payday. This is why in spite of his upside and the fact I do think he's a good young safety they'll move him.

Rapp's shown excellent coverage ability for a rookie safety let alone a guy who was thought to be a SS only and who was drafted thus (2nd round). If teams had known he could cover like he does he would have gone in the first round. He's a complete safety IMO and is going to get better and better.

Weddle's certainly not the guy he used to be. But he's smart and his leadership is magnified by the Rams' move to a younger secondary group. Jettisoning Talib and Peters suddenly increase his role in terms of importance. Rams have him at good value this year and next. I think he plays out his contract.
Most of Rapps work this season has not been working in the secondary he has been working as a hybrid LB'er getting those type of assignments normally done by LB'ers.

Yes we do differ on Rapp's present abilities to play safety in our secondary. Sure he stands to improve, but today Rapp is a very easy pass play completion by our opponents QB's & Receivers. There is a reason that WWC long time reserve Marqui Christian took over for JJ III not Rapp.

I agree with you on the value of having Weddle in our secondary. His leadership is priceless! We are talking leadership here not about his on field performance the last few weeks though. EW is a true HOF safety in waiting.

On the positive side of things Christian has done well thus far!

Pro Football Focus midseason highlights: Rams offense

Or it demonstrates how bad or inconsistent running in general is across the league. I know we aren't happy with our OLine but you should see fans from about 25 other teams who have it as bad or worse.
I don't disagree with what you said there, as there are a lot of teams struggling to run the ball and you could extrapolate that with a lot of strong defenses or even go into discussion re: the influx of more DL talent than usual in last year's draft. Which continues this year too and is another whole conversation tbh. But all that aside those stats are the best way to gauge run game potency and demonstrate that PFF continue to be out of whack with reality.

But some teams are running the ball very well and they're winning because of it. Saints are the best example of this, take away that run game and there is no way Bridgewater would have kept them on track like he did. And now that they have Brees back they have grown into what might be a powerhouse of a team. They can thank Murray for that as we can see on the chart too, he's doing a hell of a job for them.

Rams meanwhile as we know have been changing up their scheme on the fly with other than outside zone runs. Which has also affected personnel since guys like Blythe are even worse in the power and trap type looks we've had as they've tried to get that interior run game going. So IMO our run game is middle of the pack but the nice thing is we have plus talent at the RB position so if and when they sort things it can take off.

Rams

  1. Original Grade: B
The big-name free-agent additions the Rams made in the offseason have helped the defending NFC champs. Veteran safety Eric Weddle trails only linebacker Cory Littleton in tackles. Outside linebacker Clay Matthews was off to a career-best start before he broke his jaw and is still second on the team in sacks.
The huge addition the Rams made after the season (cornerback Jalen Ramsey) doesn't count.
However, the players the team lost in free agency have also had an impact. Aaron Donald isn't wreaking the havoc he did a year ago playing next to Ndamukong Suh. Partly because of the loss of veteran guard Rodger Saffold III, the offensive line has taken a massive step backward.
The draft class has been mostly unimpressive. The high point has definitely been safety Taylor Rapp, who has quickly evolved into a full-time player and versatile weapon. However, the impact that so many expected from third-round tailback Darrell Henderson Jr. hasn't materialized—he's a distant third on the depth chart behind starter Todd Gurley II and veteran Malcolm Brown. And despite the struggles of line, the rookies at that position group have been unable to earn much playing time.
The Rams' additions were supposed to help put them over the top.
Instead, they have backslid and are a third-place team in their own division.

RUMOR London Tailgate

Looking to eke out every last ounce ot pleasure from this weekend.

We'll be recording a podcast this evening will take a look at the Bengals game and the weekend festivities. Should be live by 8am PST tomorrow.

The LA Rams crew have already been featured on the Rams Brothers podcast and recorded a section with Sarina Morales earlier today.

We're hoping to feature two or three members of the official Rams staff on our podcast in the coming weeks.

Still waiting for NE to play a good team

That would be funny. Chargers have proven that they cant win even with historically great QB play, so watching Tommy boy finish his career looking like a washed up QB playing for a loser would be great. IN THE RAMS HOUSE to boot....
On the other hand, would Belechick bring Rivers in to Satan's playground to take over as a two can play that game treatment?

John Johnson put on IR

Labrum tears heal slooooowly so I assume he will be out till next year, but, who knows.
Yes.... I have suffered two:cry:. The human shoulder joint is a really true work of wonder. So many unbelievable ways that complex joint can move an arm. Let JJ III heal in the needed time.

Meanwhile, Snead has Wade four young safeties ready to play like 4 yr vet Marqui Christian & rookies Taylor Rapp, Jake Gervase & Nick Scott to play with Eric Weddle. I would prefer JJ III to be fully healed ready for 2020 season instead.

Notebook: McVay on Cooks and Matthews' injuries, Talib trade

.

from my vantage point reynolds is pretty much useless as a bit player. his mind doesn't seem to be in the game and he makes careless errors when the ball comes his way.

but once he knows he's in there for heavy snaps his game picks up and he's fully locked in and ready to make plays.

.
I agree with the first part wholeheartedly, but not sure about the 2nd part.
Sure Reynolds caught the TD pass but once again, it required 8 targets to get him 3 catches.
His catch rate for his career is significantly below 50% and he’s had many opportunities.
if Cooks is going to be out awhile i sure hope Reynolds picks it up a bit. Still think they need a guy who can get deep, not sure who that is on the roster

Leverage

I like how he does zero 'tavon austin' dancing, and just gets vertical instantly. Kind of like danny amendola did on our punt returns back in the day. I actually think that no fear - take it to them before they give to me - approach is the safer way to play football. YAC baby!

Rams go into bye hoping the worst is behind them

One thing you can see the Rams are trying to fix; the flow of the offense

We have struggled with this more in 2019. We seem to get in ruts. Struggle more than ideal to get out.

Things may or may not be working... it “appears” the other team makes a correction... and we “keep doing the same things” and lose possessions making our own counter.

At least that’s how I’d describe what appears to be happening at times. It’s way more complicated than that. But that’s the optics.

So, I get why people want some shorter pass plays/dumps. That can be used while figuring out how to attack deeper again. Same with going up tempo, no huddle.

Glad we have a smart coach.

I thought the announcers sucked during the Rams game then I watched some other games and they all sucked!

Yeah, Green probably hates the Rams. Just look at him saying that Brockers' supposed "roughing the passer" was a penalty, while the hit to a defenseless receiver in Cooks wasn't.

I don’t normally hang on every word announcers say, but this caught my ear too.

I found it almost as if he started down that opinion on roughing the passer... then refused to change that opinion after replays.

Was a little weird.

A few general thoughts after the Bengals game...

I'll be Mr Brightside about this year's Rams for a change. If this season is shot and the team doesn't make the playoffs, then we can find some positives for the future.

1. The staff won't ride into next season on a wing and a prayer with two unproven rookies on Offensive line. If they are who they thought they were, then they will see the glaring weakness and plan to fix it.......hopefully better than last year's plan.

2. Goff being forced to face adversity will only help him grow. It almost seemed like he had it too good last year and when things got tough in a few games and the offense wasn't flowing flawlessly, he didn't handle it well. This year he has faced that adversity in every game so far. With a woeful running g game he has had to carry the offense most of the time and seems to be getting better at it.

3. McVay has been forced to make adjustments this year because many teams used the Defensive alignment that the Bears used against the Rams. Last year he pushed back stubbornly with little success. This year he had to face the music and come up with alternatives. ( I still don't know why it took so long).

4. If this year is a bit of a Superbowl hangover......it shouldn't be next year.

5. The Rams could still make they playoffs. The three game skid was a shocker, but one of those games was a winnable contest in a very hostile environment in Seattle. The Niners Defense is dominant and the Rams Defense was on the field too long and I still can't explain that Tampa Bay game. But as with Goff the adversity should be a wake up call to the rest of the team.

Okay, that's all. Back to bitching for the rest of the season.

A New Identity

Nice post Leo, was a good read man.

Bottom line for me is they have to get the run game settled. You can get into the playoffs without a run game but your chances of doing anything once you're there is almost non-existent. Eagles scored on the Pats in the Super Bowl because their 2 backs racked up over 140 yards and more than 6 yards a carry. Falcons put up 18 rushes for 104 yards. If we don't get it figured out then missing the playoffs isn't the worst thing IMO.

I also think the secondary is going to settle in. Wade tends to get his group to peak as the season goes, just comes down to what is their peak. Good thing is it looks like they're clearing room now to push to get Ramsey locked up, so we're gonna be young at least. Check this out...

CB1 Ramsey 25
CB2 Hill 28
CB3 NRC 27
CB4 Williams 26
CB5 Long 21

When you consider that Long should be settling into the CB2 or 3 role at some point they have some fresh legs overall. Hill will get help most of the time so even though he can be inconsistent it shouldn't hurt us that badly. NRC is a guy they have to get back on track and if not they have a rook waiting for his shot.

I'm with you man and excited to see what this team can grow into. They're not a true contender right now but they have enough of the right pieces to be one. So why not enjoy the ride.

Caught a good one today.

Some of my best memories was as a young man fly fishing the west fork of the San Gabriel River. I loved reading the water, and the moment the trout takes the fly. It's not as scenic but I've caught some really beautiful brown trout on the Owen's River north of Bishop below the dam. Biggest one I caught was a 5 lb monster. My most favorite spot was the Trinity River in NorCal. I've caught huge trout there but mostly using a nymph. (yeah I used to fish up there on our annual bigfoot hunt!!)

My dad used to wake me up early in the morning before sunrise and take me surf fishing with him in Oxnard. I was only 8 or 9 then and I was the only one of the 5 kids that ever wanted to go. Just him and I and we would talk sometimes, but other times just enjoy the moment in silence. It made me feel special and I know there were things he told me on those trips he never spoke of to anyone.

I suppose it's why fishing will always be important and special to me. It's never been about the fish I catch because I almost always catch and release (except for crappie....I love to eat crappie!!), it's more the act of fishing, outsmarting them, getting outdoors and it's something I can do with friends or by myself.

The biggest fish I've caught was a 170 lbs. My buddy had a 20 ft boston whaler we would take out of Oceanside harbor. We usually fished kelp beds for bass, but during the summer we fished kelp patties for yellowtail (one of the few fish I will catch and keep). On our way home we saw what looked like a mako shark on the surface. So on impulse we used the last of our bait (we caught our own mackerel that morning) and ran a small chum line to draw him in. We drifted for quite a while and talked about just heading home. At that moment my line started to furiously peel off the reel.

I put the harness on and set the rod but in the holder on the harness. My buddy started the engine and swung the bow around so I was on the bow. When we were ready I set the hook hard. We were both astonished when a blue marlin jumped about 150 yds off the bow. We weren't rigged or set for a fish that size. I had maybe 50 lb test line on the reel. (we used lighter tackle for the yellows) So we chased the fish. He ran all over the place, I couldn't just muscle him in because of the light line. We were chasing him so I could take up line. This went on and on and my arms were about to fall off. Finally we got him close then he ran directly for the engine as he came directly at the stern. It was very clear he was trying to cut the line in the prop!! My buddy pivoted the boat on it's bow keeping the prop away and I was straining to turn the fish. Finally the fish turned and then exhausted it was alongside. But suddenly it started to regurgitate violently, due to the build up of lactic acid inside it. Not a good sign. We decided there was no way we could release the fish so we decided to lash it to the side and head in. The fish was too big to bring on board.

That was the first marlin I've eaten and it was wonderful. Marinated lightly then put on the grill....outstanding with grilled asparagus and new potatoes.

Will we see Greg Gaines taking "any" significant snaps THIS season?

Team politics -NFL Culture. It is hard for a rookie to break-in. It took Aaron Donald half a season (Jeff Fishers St.Louis Rams)
Donald played in every game his rookie season, and was starting by week 5 though. Guys like Kupp, Johnson, Reynolds, Ebukam, Rapp, Smart, and JFM all managed to play a full season their rookie year.
