WTH? Gurley miffed by Goff's comment?

I Pastored for 11 years, and over time I saw my share of passive aggressive behavior. I have been uneasy with Mr Gurley this season, not just because of his potential health issues, but what seems to be a growing anger/frustration over the way he has been used this year. But...he smiles and seems laid back, and then things start spilling out of his lips... and I get surprised at the underlying anger. The question is who is he blaming? Is it Jared? Coach? Dr? I just saw comments from Todd that the Cowboys are in better shape than the Rams because the Cowboys are going to the playoffs....what????? Don’t break my heart Todd, keep your head and channel that anger at the opposition DL. Any of the rest of you getting a little concerned?
Ok, I’ll bite.

FWIW— yeah, I think Gurley has an angry side to him. He’s a COMPETITOR.

The greatest athlete I’ve ever seen in my lifetime was Michael Jordan. Jordan had an anger that was legendary. Jordan HATED to lose at anything, no matter how unimportant. Supposedly he’d exaggerate all perceived slights, just to give him more fuel.

In Gurley, I see a guy who’s got a ton of pride. Throughout his life, he’s been put up on a pedestal as a supremely gifted athlete whose talent is awe inspiring. But in 2019, for the first time in his life, he’s been deluged with endless scrutiny that (a) his physical health is questionable and (b) he might not be “the guy he once was.”

So has Gurley’s pride been hurt this year? Yes, I think it has. Does Gurley sometimes get angry at the endless speculation about his knee and diminished production? Yes, sometimes you can tell he’s pissed about it.

But here’s the key question: has Gurley always been a good teammate? From everything I’ve seen so far from him as a Ram, the answer is a resounding yes.

Lastly: could Gurley be a little more “smooth” with his dealings with the press? Sure. But who gives a shit? Yeah, sometimes he gets a little frustrated with stupid repetitive questions, but so what? He’s a freaking football player, he’s not a public relations rep.

So yeah, I think Gurley’s got a lot of pride, and I think he’s got an angry streak too. IMHO those two traits makes him a better football player. And if he doesn’t always give the most polished answer to an interview question, it really doesn’t freaking matter.

49ers rule out six for Falcons game

They are prepping for the Rams...they know they will destroy cards
The Rams game will be meaningless to the Niners as long as they win and the Seahawks win tomorrow.

They already beat the Saints and Packers so a 3rd loss to the Rams doesn't hurt them for the one seed.

So for them the season comes down to the Seahawks game. One seed or 5 seed hangs in the balance.

So the reality is they should hold anyone out next week who is questionable, which obviously helps the Rams.... If the Rams take care of business tomorrow.

Evans: not a change in thought, but more reality

True that, but Noteboom is still a natural tackle., and that was the position he had success with. I know it’s an efficient way to draft with lower round selections, but not every tackle has the ability to slide over to guard. It just doesn’t always work out. I wouldn’t give up on Allen yet either, who may well be poised for backup next season(facing competition for that of course). But we don’t expect him to be ready to backup Whitworth at the beginning of the season anyway, so we know they’ll need someone to backup Whitworth assuring he signs up for another year. But I still hope that they draft more offensive line talent and keep as much veteran leadership as they can as well,

I have been watching games from earlier this year. I focused on the line. Allen is horrible. He misses his blocks all the time and gets pushed around. He is not an NFL caliber Olineman. He needs to go.

To be fair to Allen, Boom and honestly everyone else on offense...the game planning, attack schemes have improved since the early part of the season.

McV rolled out the same stuff as the '17 '18 season following training camp and clearly the time to evolve was overdue. I'm pretty sure that if Allen and Boom were still in the lineup we'd still be seeing an overall more effective offense than we did early on.

My point is that evolving the offense like using more 12 personnel, using 10 yard routes instead of 20 yard routes on 3rd down, running the ball on 2nd down, moving Goff around etc, has been more of a factor than who's blocking up front.

Better late than never.

What I said above. Allen cannot block in space. He is always missing his targets. He misses blocks in pass defense also. Aside from Demby he’s the worst player on the line. I’d take Brett Romberg over him.

Noteboom and Allen were drafted when the Rams had good success running the zone blocking scheme for their running game. They were looking at the typical lighter more athletic players. In this year’s draft Snead and Kroger picked bigger, stronger lineman. We also see much more gap blocking. Is it a change in philosophy and Allen and Noteboom no longer are ideal for the scheme? I don’t know. But I do know that down field blocking is very important in the run game and Allen sucks at it. Noteboom wasn’t far behind but he was improving. I didn’t see Allen improving at all. I don’t even think he is good depth.

Rams at Cowboys: 5 biggest matchups to watch in Week 15

Lets see how Blythe does at Center for the remainder of the year before we start saying he's the weak link at that position. I've watched game film and he seems to be holding his own. Teams aren't blitzing the A gap very often but when they have he's done an ok job. I honestly think he's better at Center than Guard as it takes less strength to play that position and a little more finesse. I will say he's better than Allen at Center.

We can still win the division

Anyone else a little split on that?

I mean, if the 49’ers are going to make the playoffs... would you rather go on the road into SF or NO come playoffs?

I’d much rather go to SF.

Overall I agree with you. Obviously match-ups matter in the NFL but playing in NO is much more difficult than SF. Seattle gets a lot of credit for the 12th man, but the Saints fans in an indoor stadium make as much noise as anyone, it's just a difficult place to play.

As good as the 49ers are they still have empty seats. Proof that the NFL is pricing itself out of reach. The #1 seed in the NFC can't fill the stadium..........that's unheard of!!!

Niners game setup

I hope that you are right. The Chargers are loaded with talent but never seem to get over the hump. But they are capable of a surprise.
They seem to always start slowly and finish strong in the Rivers era.
They have a very good (too 5 or so) defense that could slow Minnesota.
It really comes down to the Chargers OL keeping the pass rush off of Rivers and him not throwing dumb pics.

Second regular season meeting between Rams and Cowboys in McVay era has plenty at stake

Injury Report 12/11: Webster estimated as limited participant

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Rams punt returner Nsimba Webster (hip) was estimated as a limited participant Wednesday as Los Angeles began preparing for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Webster is considered day-to-day, but if he his unable to play against the Cowboys, Rams head coach Sean McVay said wide receiver Cooper Kupp would be capable of filling at punt returner, with fellow starting receivers Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks also options.

Additionally, tight end Gerald Everett (knee) was estimated as a non-participant Wednesday, though he is also considered day-to-day. Everett has not played since Week 12 against the Ravens.

Right tackle Rob Havenstein (knee) was estimated as a full participant, but his role for Sunday's game has yet to be determined. He has missed Los Angeles' last four games.

For the Cowboys, several starters, including defensive lineman Michael Bennett (foot), right tackle La'el Collins (knee), safety Jeff Heath (shoulder/shoulder), cornerback Byron Jones (hip), punter Chris Jones (abdomen), right guard Zack Martin (elbow/ankle), defensive tackle Antwaun Woods (knee) and reserve running back Tony Pollard (ankle) were limited participants on Wednesday.

Another starter, linebacker Leighton Vander Esch (neck), did not participate in Wednesday's practice. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett told reporters Vander Esch is day-to-day but may still be a ways away from practicing.

Havenstien, Should He Start?

Just to not go "round and round" about Hav, I'm gonna say this:

I quickly discount hyperbole such as "Hav has been garbage this year". If that were the case why did it take injury to remove him as a starter?

I clearly admitted that it took me a while to wonder what was with the play of Hav this year. It could be a number of things...and I'm not gonna guess on it. He's been out, and Evans has done well. If McVay opts to continue to start Evans, I'm not gonna have a fit...the game has changed alot. Some coaches hold to the rule a starter doesn't lose his job to injury...some don't.

The Rams are at Dallas Sunday...and if McVay starts Hav, we'll see what happens. If he works Hav in on plays, so be it. All I want is the Rams to win...but...what if Hav starts and plays to his known ability? The OLine is all the better for it.

We have this week of practice for the coaches to decide.
I believe every option for each position is being assessed except fo LT. The best 5 OL will start. I trust the Rams coaching staff to figure out what that is.
