Power Rankings Post Draft

The Rams were the best team in the NFL last season that didn’t make the playoffs. But that Rams roster was picked apart this offseason. Los Angeles took its shot at a Super Bowl, and the bill is coming due. We’re going to find out a lot about Sean McVay this season.

At least the fallacy that our draft capital has been crippled for the next 10 years since we traded up for Goff, traded for Cooks, Peters and Ramsey is not the quick hit "go to" line anymore when describing the Rams' mood.

The new logo is probably the worst thing that has happened to this team in many years now. :)

Interesting Tidbit from Matt Waldman

I heard this last year when Gurley started having more succes. I think it worked as a counter to the defensive scheme that teams were using against the Rams run game.
Read some info on this earlier. Apparently the 6-1 defense is good for stopping outside zone but can be countered with inside zone scheme and runs where lineman are blocking vertically and not horizontally.

With the 104th pick in the NFL draft the Los Angeles Rams select Terrell Burgess S Utah

IMO he's going to play CB with the Rams. I see him starting at slot CB this year. Also, if he plays up to expectations, he's insurance against not being able to extend Jalen. This team has it's safeties in Johnson and Rapp. They have depth at the position with Scott, Gervase, and now Fuller. Fuller needs to strengthen and work on his technique but I see him as depth behind Rapp. Scott and Gervase have the speed to play FS, so I see them behind Johnson.

Story on FA Signing Bryan London II, 3rd player from San Antonio

Hi,

The Rams signed Bryan London II out of Texas State Tuesday. He played his high school football in San Antonio at Randolph Air Force Base. He joins Malcolm Brown and Josh Reynolds as San Antonio natives on the roster. Here is a story I did on him before the draft.

Jrry32 Penultimate Mock Draft of 2020

Unfortunately, it seems I didn't have much feel for what the Rams were planning to do this year haha.
This year perhaps, down the road ya never know, might just come to pass some of your guys mocks may have been the correct path (Tho i hope not for the teams sake)

We’re fortunate to have folks like you and @Memento along with the others taking the time and research, makes great reading and is appreciated by many.

With the 136th pick in the NFL draft the Los Angeles Rams select Brycen Hopkins, TE Purdue

Hopkins was drafted to replace Everett IMO. He's pretty damn smooth too just as the passing game is concerned. Here's some full game cutups, not as fun as the highlight vids but they move along quickly and give a better feel:

Rams on game day

Hang in there, the way DTV is going (out the door and into the trash), Sunday Ticket will be picked up by some other online service.

It's a shame, DTV is part of my parent company portfolio (att). They are not even advertising it any longer. Bought it when it was in high demand/value and now, too expensive to operate.

The only saving grace is that I get Sunday Ticket and Red Zone for free. Gonna hate to see them go from that platform but it will still be around with some streaming service.

RUMOR: Rams tried to trade for Trent Williams

Sure appear to be a one yr & done move for the 9ers IMO.

Okay IF the Rams pulled off this trade where were they going to play Williams? Certainly they would not move Whitworth from lT. When you pay out that kind of salary cap funds you want to play him in the post that gets you the most in his performance.....that would be the lT post.

Whitworth has decline in his grades over the last few seasons but one phase of his game is still very good.....blind side pass protection from the OLT post. Why would you consider moving Whitworth to RT when you have a new redone contract with Rob Havenstein? Williams could move inside to LG but the Rams have over 1/2 dozen of good young talented & improving LG prospects signed & under contract already with Corbett/ Edwards/ Noteboom/ Brewer/ Shelton/ Kolone & Evans.

Just re-watched the end of Heaven Can Wait....

Saw it with my dad in the theater back then. Love the movie as one of my favorites today. Must've seen it 50 times.

Wasn't a fan of Christie's "fro", she looks so awesome in straight hair in the above pic. I thought Cannon was really hot too. I didn't care about her bitchiness I was struck! Pendleton wore #14.

Jim Peterson, Rams spec teams LB from '75 was also in that movie, doing a 70's "brutha handshake" with another player in the locker room after the win. Tall 6'5" white guy, light brown wavy hair, bent nose. He's uncredited in the movie but I recognize him.

Funny thing is, and I'm sure some of you know, that Beatty first wanted it to be about Muhammad Ali in a boxing movie. Good thing he wasn't available because it ended up being the right thing to do... be about the Rams!!!

The game was filmed during halftime of a preseason game vs the Chargers in 1977. I'm thinking someone here might've been there? The Chargers upset the Rams 26-25 and it was the revenge of QB James Harris who had a little something to prove. Fouts sat out half the season in a contract dispute so Shack was a starter until Danny came back and signed.

Rams kick off virtual offseason program

Rams kick off virtual offseason program

The first three weeks of the nine-week program will feature 90-minute meetings four days a week, with special teams days later on in the offseason. McVay expects all 9 weeks will be done this way, with 6 weeks virtual and 3 weeks at facility as the best-case scenario.

Rookies cannot get involved until May 11, when clubs' Rookie Football Development Programs are scheduled to begin. Other than that, though, McVay said "everybody was there" for today's meeting and that "all of our players are going to participate."

Outside of meetings, coaching staff will be communicating with Rams players to hold them accountable for workouts during the virtual offseason program, but won't be monitoring otherwise because they trust players will be responsible. Players were sent tablets as a supplemental tool to study the playbook and other lessons.

"That's a good reference point, whether it be through videos or just through you know, some of the playbook applications we have on those," McVay said. "To be able to follow along, we'll do some things like video voiceovers, that guys can use as a reference point as well. It's really beneficial for for coaches and for the players."

McVay is also seeking creative solutions to make the meetings engaging.

On Saturday, he revealed he has had conversations with Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers about ways to do so. McVay said he is looking to bring Rivers in an as a guest speaker to the team during one of its meetings this week and also hoping to connect with Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to do the same next week.

"They say 12 minutes is that ideal timespan," McVay said of Rivers' advice. "So, we don't want to have sort of meeting block go more than 12 and 20 minutes at a time. Making sure that it's a mix of film, but also the conversation, always splicing in some TV clips is a good way, as long as they say nice things about the players from the commentary (laughs)."

From a player's perspective, believes the new format has its benefits and drawbacks.

"It's just gonna be a little tough with some guys that are more active learners that need to be on the field to learn it and have it stick in their minds and stuff," Reynolds said. "But I think ultimately it gives guys a new way to study and learn different things."

The delay due to the disconnected audio lasted only 10 minutes, according to Reynolds, but once smoothed out, the rest of the meeting went fine.

"The whole time, we were all trying to hear each other," Reynolds said, laughing. "It was definitely interesting, but good to see everybody's face."

When Clay Johnston got the call: "By God, I want to be a Ram, let's freakin' go"

When Clay Johnston got the call: "By God, I want to be a Ram, let's freakin' go"

Rams head coach Sean McVay's energy began to wane as the seventh round of the NFL Draft got underway.

Until he got on the phone with linebacker Clay Johnston, the team's selection with the 234th pick.

"When I got a call and they said, 'Do you want to be a Ram?' I said, 'By God, I want to be a Ram, let's freaking go.' I screamed and everyone was screaming, going nuts in here," Johnston said on a video conference Saturday afternoon. "Instantly put some pads on, ran through our front door, broke the windshield, it was awesome."

Wait. Did he actually run through the front door?

"No, not at all," Johnston said. "Totally fictional, I just had to say that (laughs). The way I feel right now, I don't blame you for asking that because I'm about to run through the door right in front of me right now."

"I have never experienced a call like that in my life," McVay said. "I was starting to fade a little bit in the seventh-round and this guy gave me a shot of adrenaline that I felt like I was going to put my head through a wall. This was guy was unbelievable."

Saturday's news also gave Johnston a much-needed boost, too.

On Oct. 12, he suffered a season-ending knee injury in Baylor's double-overtime win over Texas Tech, prematurely ending what was shaping up to be a promising senior season.

His 58 tackles, eight for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception and five pass breakups in six games was good enough for second-team All-Big 12 honors from conference coaches, but it didn't ease the disappointment of not being able to help his teammates try to reach their goals.

"It sucked, honestly. I hated every second of it," Johnston said. "Becoming injured, especially with this year we had, I thought we had the chance to win the Big 12 Championship and we did and we knew that going in with our whole class. It's definitely been a test and it's just a different process."

Johnston said his knee feels great now and that he is now running at max speed and cutting at "90-95 percent" speed, but he's being smart about it. His father Kent Johnston, a longtime NFL strength coach, and international track coach Dan Pfaff have been helping him throughout his rehabilitation process.

"(My dad and I would) go work out every day, train, do some ply works, stuff like that," Johnston said. "So, it's doing a lot better and it's only going to continue to get better, Lord willing."

If his attitude on draft day wasn't enough of an indication that he's ready to work, perhaps an endorsement from former Rams safety Eric Weddle is.

When Weddle played for the San Diego Chargers, Kent Johnston was their strength coach. Weddle told ESPN's Lindsey Thiry that Clay would work out with the team when he was in high school.

"When I would go there, we'd wake up in the morning and we'd do some defensive back drills together," Clay said when asked about his relationship with Weddle. "He'd always say, 'You're going to be the young little prodigy of Eric Weddle.' So, he'd just joke around about that. It was such a blessing being able to train with him. Such a great guy, freaking love him, he works his tail off."

Weddle strongly believes Johnston will make the Rams' initial 53-man roster this fall. If Johnston's energetic attitude is any indication, there's a good chance he can.

"Ah, come on bro, yeah. I'm hyperventilating," Johnston said, when asked if he was excited to be joining the Rams. "I wanted to get under the squat rack, wanted to get some pads on. I'm freaking stoked."

710Am is the worst

Yeah I gave up with AM radio Rams coverage in LA. 710 is the best out of the bad bunch and thats not saying a lot. I listen for a few minutes here and there and usually get pissed at their lack of knowledge or indifference towards the Rams and the NFL in general. This morning Keyshawn was asking Mel Kiper Jr. about the draft and they spent only 45 seconds on the Rams. MeShawn called Van Jefferson -Vance Jefferson. They didn't even speak about the Rams draft picks besides Akers and Jefferson. They spent more time talking about the Raiders. Stick to podcasts -11 Personnel is a good one on the Athletic

Draft Memories: How LB Troy Reeder made the most of being undrafted

I wonder if they will put Reeder in at ILB. He's pretty stout against the run but his pass coverage falls short of what LIttleton was able to do. Not that LIttleton was good against the run, he was constantly washed out of plays or hit the wrong gap. Maybe that's why they let him walk. Hopefully Reeder takes the next step this season and proves all the naysayers wrong. We're rooting for you!
