This NFL team is now the fastest in the league and every defense should be terrified

While we are on the topic, Wilson is 1-3 vs the Rams the last two seasons. We would be 4-0 against them if not for Greg the Leg, Everett or Brian Allen. Take your pick. But also, the last game vs us Wilson had zero TD's. His playoff record without the #1 defense (legion of boom) is horrific. No super bowls. No Championship. And with the #1 defense he choked with an interception in one of the Super Bowls. Just saying.

LA Rams 2020 NFL Draft rookie floor/ceiling: Van Jefferson

This is why the Rams place so much importance upon games like the Senior Bowl which in reality is the true combine. You can see exactly the strengths and flaws of a player. Teams like the Rams and even the Chargers pre-Telesco days trusted the Senior Bowl tapes more than the Combine numbers. They should structure the Combine as a series of controlled scrimmages. It will also, show them what players are more coachable than others. This is why the Rams like a few others have really scaled down their Combine participation and attendance. Static workouts which the participants spend months working on don't really show what they need to know. But games and scrimmages so. At the Senior Bowl teams get to see prospects actually competing against each other on the field and in practice drills. That tells you more than Combine numbers. The NFL should structure their Combine like the Senior Bowl practices.

The case in point is Fuller. In college, he played as a FS many times in a single high scheme. It was clear to me after watching a number of games, he simply doesn't have the range to play that kind of scheme. The Rams have to this point played a lot of exactly that. Without knowing his 40 time numbers I could see it easily that he was more times than not a step or two away from where he needed to be. Then I noted his 40 time in the mid 4.6 range and it simply confirmed what I was seeing. If his 40 time was 4.4 or 4.5 then it might indicate he's slow to read the play. So I see him being drafted and I immediately peg him as a SS in this scheme behind Rapp.

It's why the Rams drafted Terrell Burgess to eventually replace Johnson who really lacks the range to play a single high FS. Long speed is important for a FS to give him the necessary range. Johnson's lack of range is hidden by how much Wade played zone schemes. But Johnson runs a 4.61 and that would be great if he was a SS but too many times he's simply a step or step and a half late as a FS.

These stand alone test numbers should be used in the context of what you see on film. To either confirm what you see or open other questions about what you see. Jefferson's film are impressive because you can see his crisp routes and his speed and good hands. The test numbers he would have had wouldn't have really mattered.

The bottom line is that the Rams don't really need to see the combine workouts when all they need to see is on game film.

Surprise release of Saints G Larry Warford puts 3-time Pro Bowler on open market

Heard a Saints fan say Warford reported into camp last year overweight and that was the beginning of a downslide.

Also don't let pro bowl sway you since there are many alternates as 1st, 2nd, 3rd choices sit out so some of them are overrated.

Who knows he may be better than a couple of our guys, but it seems like he lacks some discipline. Not biting the hook on this one and I doubt the Rams are either. But hey they can prove me wrong and improve the line and I'll be singing a different tune.

McSnead always vets for character--primary criteria for them. They have to "love football."

Five things to know about new Rams safety Jordan Fuller

Safety is loaded. And Staley is going to expect his safeties to break on the ball decisively more than they did last season (vice manning up), so there's going to be some competition going on and both JJ and Rapp will need to improve there. Our secondary was pretty bad in zone last season and they will need to improve in this scheme.

I'm really intrigued by how everyone will settle in. Of all the positions on defense the safeties in particular have some work ahead IMO.

The Saturday Night Conversation Thread: May-09-2020

I had some pretty fun roommate drama, first I've ever had and I'm in my 30's, so late bloomer.

I moved into a single room in a house with 9 people. Not because I can't afford to live alone, but rather because I was tired of living alone and not having people to talk to in this city famous for being anti-social. Luckily the three in the basement are pretty quiet, so I never see them. One is gone a lot anyway.. Then on the main level in the house (3 on each level) I have one other guy with me, since the other guy has been gone since the lockdown staying with some girl, so I'm never bothered by anyone on my level. The upstairs guys though.. They've been fighting a lot, all three of them. Tons of drama (their rooms aren't over mine so no worries about stomping at least).. The fighting eventually spilled over to the point one of them unplugged the internet because the box went through his room for some reason, knocking it off for a few days until the landlord got involved and kicked his ass right out.

So yesterday I just sat there in the living room listening to music, watching most of the house fight, it was great. Landlord came with his smoking hot assistant, guy getting kicked out is yelling, other roommates are yelling, cops show up and they're watching it, while I'm just chilling listening to music higher than giraffe balls watching the entire thing go down.

As far as Saturday nights go.. It was pretty entertaining.

Rams’ offensive line problem isn’t as bad as it looks

You know why they sat on our route combinations, it was because we only had 2 or 3 out in the pattern the rest TE and RB were in blocking because the IL SUCKS!
You're preaching to the choir tbh. I'm very concerned about the OL.

But there were some serious issues with the Rams' gameplanning in 2019. And I think McVay hired an OC this offseason for that reason.

Best Rams Duo for All the Marbles! (Poll)

Thing of it is, Warner to Bruce actually happened in the Super Bowl with the game on the line. That's why it got my vote. I would gladly take Holt as well as Bruce, as he scored the first touchdown in the Super Bowl. I love Waterfield to Crazy Legs Hirsch, van Brocklin to Fears, Everett to Ellard/Flipper, even Goff to Kupp.

We've been blessed beyond measure with this team. To have so many superstars play for us is almost unfathomable...and yet we have had them play for us.

This is, without a doubt, the best football team ever. Of all time.

New Rams logos

I compared it to a completely botched haircut that the whole world is laughing at. Yep!

Remove your Homerism & predict the # of wins

Cowboys- Rams start out on the right foot. Missing frederick in the middle shows as the DL dominates and forces prescott into a bad game.
Win, 1-0
@eagles-with a week of film, HC pederson designs a good game plan and schools new Rams DC.
Loss, 1-1
@bills-a trend starts when the Rams new D struggles vs a young mobile QB. Throw a tough defense and a consecutive east coast road trip...ugly. Loss, 1-2
g men-they stink. Win, 2-2
@skins-every year some teams have a stinker. It can be for various reasons, but usually the schedule plays a part. 3rd east coast game, and the 9ers next week...
Loss, 2-3
@9ers-THIS game the Rams were waiting for. The defense shines. Jimmy g struggles and gets pounded. Win, 3-3
da bears-I just don't see it. Why are they even relevant?
Win,4-3
@fish-they need at least a year to put it together.
Win,5-3
Bye
seahawks-the Rams are coming off of a bye and the seahawks are coming off of tough game in Buffalo.
Win,6-3
@tampon bay-here's where it really stinks. The Rams lose to brady again. The bucs have a good team and the game is sandwiched between 2 huge division games.
Loss,6-4
9ers-ticked after a loss again, the Rams take it out on the 9ers once more.
Win,7-4
@zona-young, talented, mobile QB gets the Rams again (see bills game).
Loss,7-5
cheatriots-revenge just isn't as sweet because brady is gone, but I'll take it.
Win8-5
jets-they come a long way for an ass kicking.
W,9-5
@seahawks- they get revenge.
Loss9-6
zona-it all comes down to this game. Win and you're in. Lose and you go wee, wee, wee all the way home. 9-7, or 10-6 and a playoff birth? You decide.

Lirim Hajrullahu - Our New Stud Kicker Kickin' 68 & 70 Yard BOMBS.

Just out of interest, how comes there hasn’t been many kickers from the Canadian leagues come to the NFL? I’d have thought that position could transition easier than most? Apologies for my ignorance if there has been loads come over and I’m unaware of this.
There are only 9 teams in the CFL which limits the number of candidates who could transition to the NFL.

7 kickers have a career success rate of 85% or better with 6 of them still playing in the CFL. The only player on this list who is not currently in the CFL is Ty Long, currently the punter for the LA Chargers (89.1%)

With goalposts on the goal line, CFL teams can get away with a kicker who has a maximum range of 50 yards (i.e. Rene Paredes, Sean Whyte & Tyler Crapigna)

It is possible that a couple of kickers may try the NFL in a year or two.

Lewis Ward is the leader at 92.2% with a career long of 56 yards. He holds the CFL record with 69 consecutive field goals.

Sergio Castillo is the other. He is a career 87.0% with a career long of 57 yards. He struggled in the XFL and decided to re-sign in BC.

One of the 7 is Justin Medlock who had a couple of cups of coffee in the NFL. He believes that being a left footed kicker makes it more difficult to make it in the NFL. Most incumbent kickers are right footed which means that the primary holder is used to a righty. As a lefty, Medlock was often stuck with a random player as his holder.

When he started in the CFL, Medlock joined the Toronto Argonauts who were one year removed from another left footed kicker. Since then, Medlock has earned the right to audition and then hand pick his holder. Medlock is likely on his last contract and won't make another bid at the NFL.

Rams tickets are in very high demand

Rams tickets are in very high demand after schedule release

[theramswire.usatoday.com]

The 2020 season is a big one for the Los Angeles Rams, and not just because they’re trying to get back to the playoffs after missing it last year. They’ll be trotting out a new-look defense, an offense that no longer features Todd Gurley and Brandin Cooks, and a redesigned set of uniforms next season.

Oh, and they’ll be playing in a spectacular $5 billion stadium that’s set to open this summer.

Anticipation is high for the Rams’ 2020 season, leading to a huge amount of interest among fans. According to SeatGeek, via CNBC, demand for Rams tickets was high after the regular-season schedule was released on Thursday night.

The Rams have the second-most ticket volume in the NFL, and the average resale price is $456. The No. 1 game in the NFL in ticket demand is predictable Rams vs. Cowboys on Sept. 13, the home opener of SoFi Stadium.

As a whole, ticket sales across the NFL are up 234% from last year, according to SeatGeek. That figure comes as a surprise, given the uncertainty of live sports taking place with fans in the stands due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But fans don’t seem deterred from the possibility of games being canceled. That likely has to do with the fact that teams have already put refund and exchange policies in place, protecting fans in the even that the schedule is altered.

PFF Grades for Rams WRs 2019

Woody is excellent, no doubt. Only way they go away from him is if there is some sort of contract impasse because otherwise he is probably the best bargain in the league in terms of second contract guys and impact vs budget.

I also find it interesting how good the hands and route running will be in our top 3 if they hit on Jefferson. Kupp is also among the best at both (the differentiation isn't all that much in spite of how the PFF numbers may look). So if Van can come in and win a job we'll be three deep at plus possession wideouts (for whom hands & route mastery factors in highest).

Goff is going to benefit greatly from that so from there it's about the run game. And if that is there... He should feast on intermediate routes all season.
Maybe next year. I don't see them not giving Reynolds a chance to prove himself this year as one of our top three receivers. Our receiving core is good this year...TALL, precise route runners with solid speed. I think Woods is the shortest of our top 4 at 6'0. People are excited about CeeDee and Dallas but overall our receivers are better.

Kromer

Man guys ... my head hurts from this thread :explode: o_O:woozy::peace:

Point taken. I'm beating a dead horse, particularly with the schedule release tonight. My last point.

In 6 of our 7 losses the defense allowed 35.7 PPG. In 3 of our 7 losses the offense scored 31.3 (34, 29 and 31). You can not lose 3 games when your offense is at 30 points. It's totally unacceptable. So we can point to the O line and they had troubles....injuries, warts, what-have-you. But I can't in good conscience say "our biggest issue in 2019 was our O line". Not with losing 3 games when our offense put up and average of 31.3 points. Win any one of them and we're in the playoffs. Win 2 and we're 11-5. There were 6 games in a stretch of 7, 4 before the Baltimore debacle, 2 after when our defense allowed just 50 points, 8.3 ppg. We went 5-1. The other 10 games they allowed 270 (27 PPG). We went 4-6 in those.

The offense scored 27 points or more in 9 games. We went 6-3.
The defense allowed 20 points or fewer in 9 games. We went 7-2.

By my count the offense cost us 2 games, the defense 3, special teams 1 and the other was a total group effort.

5 NFL quarterbacks under the most pressure in 2020

Strange list. Lock and Minneshew are playing with house money, Trubisky wont be a Bear by opening day and Brady isnt under pressure. 6 Rings means he could throw 50 INT and still tell the world to blow him
Carson Wentz is #1 in my book
I'd say
#5 Jared Goff- Its his team 100% now. Got a mulligan for last year but a repeat of that would be bad
#4 Aaron Rodgers- Put in a bad spot, could have gotten him a weapon in 1st round but...
#3 Sam Darnold- no more excuses
#2 Baker Mayfield- Cocky works if he goes Brett Favre, doesnt work if he goes Jonny Manzel
#1 Wentz- Cant help the club from the tub. They miss the playoffs, Peterson gets fired
Your list is better.

What have you discovered

I discovered I'm even more lazy than I thought. I have no problem working at work or pushing myself when I'm at the gym. But on my days off I dont want to do shit anymore and with the gym closed I think I have worked out maybe 5 days the last 2 months. I have all this free time on my 3 days off, yet my yard is over grown and my truck is dirty.
