Matt Gay on the Pat McAfee Show

Former punter for the Colts, and I honestly respect the guy for doing his podcast to focus on special teams. He wasn't even sure if people were going to like it, but he did it anyway, and he's brought a former punter's perspective to things that people appreciate.
Well that's kind of cool. It's good that a punter is trying to reach out to real people. Maybe one day punters can be considered real people too.

Colin Cowherd's prediction

It's gonna be ugly and nasty and some of us are gonna need defibrillators but Rams gonna get this done. They have to.

If not then it's time to spend an entire fucking draft on both lines. Bring in beef and more beef and take this little physicality duel to ludicrous speed. I mean we need secondary help but beating the fucking 9ers, that matchup, becomes job one.

The Defense

Jones is better than Reeder.

My thought on three LBers is threefold. 1. The Niners haven't played as well against teams with three linebackers. 2. Rapp may be out. So I’d rather see Howard and Jones in. 3. Small backup DBs don’t fare too against big pass catchers.

I know Jones may be used sparingly due to his ankle. I hope he’s a full go. He took over in the middle before his injury.
I'm not arguing AT ALL that Reeder is better than Jones.. it's obvious to all of us on here. But they indicated he would be used in a limited way this weekend.

I guess we could see that at times. Floyd isn't great dropping into coverage.. Howard and Jones could get to the flat.. but.. they'd have to hold the edge.

We'll see!

How the NFL can fix its overtime rules

I thought the old sudden death rule was fine. The adjustments up to this point were at first odd but I'm used to them. I was okay with the Chiefs win though I wanted to see the Bills go on. It's just their defense was so bad on that last drive so I was like stop them rather than complain. It was 13 damn secs and you gave them the game.

So I've always thought "Well then stop them if you don't want to lose on their first possesion." If NFL decides to go new rules in a 2nd attempt to "even the chances" so to speak I guess I'll be okay with it. If one team scores a TD 1st they just have to stop the other team next to win it. I don't see the game going 6 hours.

Just don't go into college rules and have the ball spotted on each other's 20 or whatever. That's always been odd to me.

OBJ

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said "it wouldn't shock" him if the Chiefs pursued Odell Beckham in free agency this offseason.

It wouldn't shock me if quite a few teams pursued OBJ.
It doesn't say the Chiefs will pursue him or if he is even interested.
Just some guy giving his opinion.

Besides, we don't need OBJ, we have Tutu.

Kupp makes history!!!!!

Not sure if posted in another thread somewhere but haven't seen it, but this deserves its own thread regardless!!!

Cooper Kupp becomes first receiver in NFL history to reach 2,000 receiving yards in a season

Cooper Kupp is having one of the greatest seasons for a receiver in NFL history. The deeper the Los Angeles Rams go into the playoffs, Kupp has more of a case for the greatest season ever for a pass catcher.

Kupp is the first player ever in NFL history to have over 2,000 receiving yards in a season, having 2,191 yards through 19 games this year (regular season and postseason combined). Larry Fitzgerald had 1,977 yards in 2008 in 20 games for the Arizona Cardinals while Jerry Rice finished with 1,965 yards in 17 games for the San Francisco 49ers in 1995.

Kupp also has 159 catches on the season, the most for any player in a season in NFL history (including postseason). He passed Michael Thomas for the most receptions in a season (156) during the Rams' divisional round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kupp joined Jerry Rice (1990), Sterling Sharpe (1992), and Steve Smith (2005) as the only players in the Super Bowl era to capture the triple crown for receiving. To hold the receiving triple crown, a player needs to be first in the NFL in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns in the regular season. Kupp led the league with 145 catches, 1,947 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns during the regular season. Kupp's 23 catches of 25-plus yards are the most for any player in NFL history.

In the postseason, Kupp has 14 catches for 244 yards and two touchdowns. He finished with nine catches for 183 yards and a touchdown in the divisional round win over the Buccaneers, as the 183 receiving yards were the second most in Rams' postseason history (Tom Fears had 198 yards in 1950).
For Kupp to get 2,500 receiving yards this year, he needs 309 yards to reach the mark. If the Rams reach the Super Bowl, he only needs to average 154.5 receiving yards per game over the final two games.

Based on the way Kupp has played this year, it's hard to rule the All-Pro wide receiver out of that possibility.

We are witnessing history, cheers to Kupp and lets go RAMS!!!

Chris Rose said Stafford kicked Suh

let's be clear again because you may have not remembered the timeline.

martz had the utmost faith in kurt. maybe too much since he played him with a broken throwing hand.

then brenda blabbed and told the world martz was a liar.

then martz turned on kurt. in the worst possible way.

she was the catalyst that unleashed martz's wrath on poor kurt.

nothing you can say about martz being a piece of shit is gonna change that fact.

.

Nope. That's not true.

Martz wanted to start Bulger, but couldn't justify benching Warner.

Martz put Warner out there with a messed up hand BECAUSE he was trying to justify starting
Bulger.

This is uncontested: Martz LIED about Warner getting an X-Ray on his hand. When Brenda heard the press conference, she want on a sports radio program and told the truth... it wasn't true. And Martz was subsequently CAUGHT in that lie and was super mad at Brenda.

However, NONE of that justifies leaving a concussed Warner in the game against the Giants in the first game of 2003. NONE of that justifies calling a nearly all pass 2nd half against at that time one of the best pass rushes in the NFL.

And we know that Martz had it in for Warner because AS I CALLED IT THEN, the moment Warner was diagnosed with a concussion, he would never play another meaningful snap for the Rams again.

Worse, other HCs have come forward, especially Mike Shanahan who watched every throw of Warner's career and wanted him to start for Denver. Martz specifically REFUSED to trade Warner for any price (not that a mega deal was ever in the offering, but he'd made it clear Warner wasn't gonna be traded so teams stopped asking) and it was only after every starting job was well taken and well after the draft that Warner was released.

Several HCs went on record, iirc, as saying that Martz told them that Warner's hand was so bad that he couldn't even grip a football.

Coaching is a small fraternity and when it comes to personnel, it's a cardinal sin to LIE about a player and Martz did. Think about how many coaches and FOs were PISSED (especially Denver's) when they saw Warner taking the freaking CARDINALS to the Super Bowl.

If Martz wasn't guilty of such gross infractions, how is he not even a consultant for a team? Dude architected one of the greatest offenses of all time and within a few years after his Rams stint and following his crap time in Detroit... he was 100% out of the NFL. He's not even on some piddling podcast. NOTHING. (I mean, he wasn't done bashing Warner in Detroit where he said that... not kidding... that Jon Kitna was the most talented QB he'd ever coached... Jon Kitna??? WTF??? That doesn't even cover the disrespect to Marc Bulger, ffs)

The NFL never throws anything away if they can gain even the slightest advantage. We complain about recycling HCs, but even if Detroit didn't work out, the idea that NO ONE wanted him for an OC?

Sorry that you have an issue with Brenda, but your recollection is flawed and the relationship going south is 1000% on Martz.

O’Connell to Bears?

Heard a guy on the radio predicting that the defensive minded new coach of the bears would want an offensive guy like O’Connell to help young qb Justin Fields. It would be a lateral move but once again he would get the chance to call plays.
O’Connell is already on the HC track he’ll probably get one next year, what is it about these guys?
Plus as a lateral move McVay can say no. I would hope he would.

Can I get some Akers on the end around???

The reason we can't win on the ground vs those fucks is our interior OL. They get trucked too much and spring leaks in zone on a routine basis vs them.
Definitely agree and that's my point, I don't want McVay to get pass happy but I don't want to just run at the strength of this 9er defense either. McVay has to mix it up on the run plays, maybe even do somethings we haven't done before to loosen and keep that D honest. I still believe Akers can make this D pay. He can make yards out in the flat that Sony can't. Definitely use Sony on short yardage situations.

Bad snap

Has anyone heard an explanation for that shitshow? They were on the plus side of the field with potential to score and that happened. Was the guard picking his nose and Allen thought it was the signal or something? They were using the silent count right? So how do you have confusion, it should be more reliable than listening shouldn’t it.
Watching again and just don’t know what the sequence is supposed to be. Corbett definitely gives Allen the signal to snap it. I have to think Corbett thought Stafford gave him the signal to start the sequence.

Fumble at the one, missed field goal, crazy ass wild snap, Kupp fumble and then finally another Akers fumble in our own end of the field.

Gotta get back to playing a clean game this week.

Von Miller media session- infused some confidence back in me

Love listening to Von’s interviews. He is threat deal, never seems to hold back, lays things out from his heart, always smiling.

Another guy who is grateful for the blessings he’s had and gives God glory for it all.

This seem to be the mold for the character the Rams want.

A couple of days ago Von said he wants to finish his career, in LA or with the Rams, I don’t recall the exact quote. I’d be very happy to see him re-signed.

Great evaluation of Aaron Rodgers

Oh, never mind me! I'm just joshing with you. :p I supposed I should have employed the traditional blue font. I actually believe those losses may very well turn out to be a blessing in disguise. The Horns players were already edgy about discussing the constant losing to the Red & Gold just before Week 18. They are probably determined to shut all that talk up this weekend. Sean & Co. have to have learned by now (from that Week 18 debacle, no less!) not! to take your foot off the accelerator when you are trashing your opponent. When you lose your offensive rhythm, it can be very tough to re-establish it. They nearly got bit by that gambit just last weekend, but Matthew showed up as who he is---the top 4th quarter comeback QB in the game. Besides, AD99, Andrew, Matthew, and the rest of the gang want that Vince Lombardi gold piece, and the '9ers are standing in the freaking way! They are evil, and they must be destroyed!!!
Rock on buddy. Its our time.
