OL Snap Count %s Show The Story of the Offense's Collapse

I never understood how a great coach like Shula could have a QB like Marino and not incorporate a great ground game around him. If they had they would be unstoppable.

However, he fell in love with the pass and never gave him a running game and they never won anything. And that was a coach who won SBs with a Czonka and Kiick pounding the ball along with Mercury Morris.

I guess when you pay big bucks to the QB you expect him to carry the team, but that skill set backed by a ground attack would be something to see.

I have some questions for the 'experts' on OL play.

Continuality and familiarity are both huge aspects, especially for a position unit that relies on the guys next to you knowing what to do if x happens. The more these guys play together the better they know what each other tends to do.

You're seeing a worst case scenario this year. Lots of guys playing all over the line next to other guys they aren't as familiar with. A number of dudes who weren't even rostered to begin the year. Guys who are completely new to the scheme and what the call outs may even be. It extends to the TEs and RBs as well as they will have blocking assignments often. We saw it a lot the last few games, guys aren't familiar enough with each other to know who is going to slide on a stunt for example. It takes a lot of trust to say "hey, I'm going to stick with my guy because I know X next to me saw the same stunt I did and will slide to cover it."

I don't think it is a "complicated scheme" issue at all. This is what o-line play looks like when you are starting guys who weren't here to gel in the preseason let alone even on a roster a few weeks ago. The skill isn't there (or they wouldn't have been on the street), the familiarity isn't there (which is completely expected), and the execution is lacking because understanding scheme nuances takes time. This is one of the big reasons you don't see a ton of trades for offensive linemen at the trade deadline (almost none really unless a team is just really sour on a guy and wants to get anything back for them). Its one of the few positions where just being good at your job isn't enough, the unit really has to function as a group well.

Cards Release Eno Benjamin

Where are you guys getting this from?
I don’t recall.
I listen to a podcast that incidentally has 3 hosts from Arizona and they go into detail on the inner workings of the Cardinals fairly often. Apparently, Eno has been a locker room cancer and made a habit of getting into altercations with teammates or even his coach. He has great talent but the Cards almost released him last season after he got in the face of Kliff Queensberry.

GAME DAY MNF - Commodes at Eagles

Now that's a backup QB

They feel they can take more chances on D because they have the personnel. We don't have that.

They feel they can take more chances on D because when they give up the big play they feel their offense can make up for it. We don't have that.

McVay understands that, Morris calls the defense the way his boss wants to based on the roster he built for him. Some of us understand that and cut the guy some slack instead of complain daily in any thread they decide to post in. Maybe it's just us...
So the 2000 Baltimore Ravens should have sat back in a soft zone since their offense was anemic? Really?

In fact not sure I have ever observed a team with a top level defense and a poor offense, intentionally take the aggressiveness away from their defense because their offense sucks. That is not logical. You put your best unit in position to make plays to cover for your weaker unit.

The Cowboys played with a back up QB and their defense cranked up pressure. They didn't play "bend don't break" because their offense was undermanned.

I mean what the heck are you talking about?

Letting the opposing team dominate time of possession isn't working. Our defense is allowed to pitch some 3 & outs. We are allowed to hit a QB. Heck, it might set up a score for our offense.

20 Random It Just Keeps Getting Worse Thoughts

Hill played in 4 1/2 games so far this year

And I think Wagner is doing an excellent job so far this

Yes Von Miller's pass rush is way better but Wagner's run game defense has made it where most opponents have to pass in order to succeed. And I believe if we made it a point of emphasis to attack the opposing team's passing game, we would do a lot better especially in interceptions.
