CONTEST Predict the Score...Rams @Seahawks

Horns 31 'Hawks 17! Matthew demonstrates to the 'Hawks and the rest of the NFL that there are viable flyguys on the Horns not named "Cooper Kupp." Cam Akers demonstrates he is serious about earning his very first big contract. Aaron's defensive teammates demonstrate they are not irrelevant!

OL Depth following the trade for Dotson ...

I’ll eat crow on Tutu, but I’m not so quick to with Joe. I need to watch the game again and focus on the Oline, but I saw him whiffing on initial blocks and he struggled with DTs changing directions. I don’t know if he got better as time went on but my initial impression was not good. He looked lost and confused. Maybe it’s because it was his first time playing right guard with little to no practice in camp.
This, along with his weaker run blocking was why I had serious doubts about the move.

I wasn't able to watch the whole game, just the highlights on YouTube, so there may have been things I missed but I'd take this kind of performance all season long, particularly the pass protection.

Total tear down to the studs and rebuild feel imminent

With the brutal first half schedule, and Kupp possibly missing 4 games, and having the youngest team in the league…it’s not hard to see this team starting 1-5 or 2-6, and ultimately deciding to completely blow it up and start fresh. Stafford getting dealt before the 10/31 deadline feels like a very real possibility. Ben Solak mentioned this on his pod today and now that the Kupp news is official it doesn’t seem far fetched at all.

Only way this doesn’t happen is if some of the rookies pop and we start the season 4-2, 3-3, or something. But if we are 1-5, I cannot see them sending Stafford and Kupp out there every week on their way to a 5-12 finish. Especially if Stafford looks as good as all the training camp reports have suggested. If he is healthy, teams will want him and the Rams would be stupid not to get something for him.
Tell us all about it.... :)

Rams WR Cooper Kupp (hamstring) being placed on IR; to miss at least 12th straight game

I could just be remembering wrong but I was thinking Goff kind of did the same thing and would force it to Kupp a lot as well. Really the difference was we had a better run game with Gurley until he got hurt.
Difference is we had Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks and not a total diagnosed Mcvay offense for much of that time. People weren't totally keying in on Kupp. He was getting the dime or nickel constantly.

Competing

So much of the problem defensively revolves around use. Not every DT can play a two gap scheme. The problem up front is Morris' use of two gapping and read and react style of play. It makes everyone look slow. They are taking blows instead of delivering them.

If he would simply get with the times and play a one gap, attacking front a lot of the problems would disappear. It's not the players, it's the damn scheme and how it's played. Morris played his secondary that way and it was a failure. On the final series of the Super Bowl do you think the DL was playing two gap reand and react? Hell no, both Gaines and Donald were playing a one gap penetration style. That is the only reason the Rams won. Did Morris learn from that? No as we saw last year.

Morris only reverts to one gap penetration style DL when they get into the red zone. The question remains why only then? The answer is simple he's afraid of giving up the big plays, but they still do don't they. Morris isn't a top DC, He snows everyone with his supposed knowledge. But if he's so good why are his defenses so poor?

It's not the players, it's the DC. When Kendrick makes the final roster you will have your proof of what I'm saying. The four top CBs are Durant, Tomlinson, Rochell and Witherspoon. They ae 5 deep at safety, with Johnson, Fuller, Yeast, Lake and Taylor. That should tell you where Morris' priorities lie. So why is Kendrick even in the conversation? He's all mouth and no performance. Someone much better is going to get cut to keep DK. Why? Because Raheem likes him. Morris should keep Kendrick on the PS where he belongs.

The same thing can be said on the OL with Noteboom vs Thomas. Thomas has already proven he can play both OT and OG. Noteboom is very talented, more so than people give him credit for being. But there is no guarantee he can return 100% from his Achilles as a lot of OL players can't. Too much-prolonged stress on the injury playing on the OL. McClendon isn't ready, Bruss may never be, so IMO Thomas is clearly the best option. He's played well in preseason.

People point to Bruss as an example of not drafting well but turn a blind eye to Austin Corbett. He was a targeted player who got drafted by Cleveland before the Rams could take him. But he proved himself as a capable OG once he became a Ram. Allen has shown he's a very good center, but since entering the NFL he's been injury prone. That said UDFA Mike McAllister has shown himself to be a very good center in his own right. If he continues to play well he might be their long term answer at the position. I think McClendon will be a good RG if he can make the transition and if he can't the Rams will have a decent backup.

IMO the only reason Anchrum is playing is because they drafted him to play OG. He is still inconsistent in his play after 4 years. Tremayne is a backup level talent. He lacks the size to be a starting OG in the NFL. His cross-training as a center didn't last long which is the only OL position he is physically a fit for.

Blah blah blah —

Where is Greg Gaines today!! Looking real good.

Ask Oldschool what he thinks about The Rams DEFENSE (LINE)TODAY

Keep The HATE going with Raheem Morris as well!

Lmao - getting excited for ALL THE NAY SAYERS !! The Hags are tough offensively & another real tough opener.

Don’t want to think about all the red at SOFI. Will be interesting.

I think the Rams had a pretty good off season even if they did not sign any big name free agents.

yeah i used to think kind of like you but i finally realized that every team has improved also if they haven't whoever is in charge of the pick should be replaced. after all it doesn't matter if your team has 5 picks or 14 picks they should pick players that improve their team it is just a matter of did your team improve more than most of the other teams. same for free agent and trades.
So success of lack there of basically it comes down to:

Improvement
Health
Matchups (schedule/opponents improvement and health)

It's difficult to project improvement with losses like Ramsey, Floyd, Wagner, etc.

But I have a couple of questions.

Wouldn't we be without Ramsey if we kept him anyway? I guess the answer depends on was his knee ready to be injured or was it the surroundings?
Will Wagner be as good at 33 as he was at 32? Scheme certainly will have something to do with it. In 10 years with the Hawks, he averaged 90 solo tackles and just under 3 sacks a season. With Morris it was 81 solo tackles and 6 sacks, the latter a career high.
Floyd was a very good edge. Previous to playing on a defense with AD he averaged 27 solo tackles and 4.6 sacks per year, while with the Rams it was 33 solo tackles and 9.6 sacks. Did Floyd make the Rams better or did the Rams make Floyd better?

Our defense has so many "unknowns" but that doesn't mean they'll all be negatives when it's all said and done.
