I was going to post this on the other scoring thread, but decided Greg the Leg deserved his own post, because his scoring pace is even more impressive than that of the overall offense. Through half the season, Greg Zuerlein now has 99 points scored, with a perfect 27/27 PATs and 24/25 FGs in 8 games. He is on pace to score 198 points this year.

Just for some perspective, Jeff Wilkins holds the Rams record for points scored by a kicker, surprisingly from the 2003 season, with 163 points. The NFL record for kickers is only one point more, with Gary Anderson, from the incredible offense of the 1998 Minnesota Vikings, logging 164 points. The NFL record for overall scoring is 186 points, (31 TDs) by LaDainian Tomlinson of San Diego in 2006. Zuerlein is actually on pace to break both Records.

Let me further extrapolate. At 12.4 pts per game, Zuerlein would have to drop off to 8pts per game the rest of the way out in order to NOT break the record for kickers, and drop off to under 11ppg. in order to not break the all-time record.

The Rams do face tough defenses in Seattle, Minnesota, Philly and Houston down the stretch, but the Rams have built this offensive record in the front half of the season facing Seattle, Jacksonville and Washington, among others.

I believe Legatron will break the Rams record established by Wilkins, and the NFL record for kickers, but have a tough time beating LT's 186. What do you all think?

See how talented he is? In that picture he's kicking the ball and doing the Dirty Bird at the same time. :sneaky:

I think as the Rams get better in the red zone, his points will tailor off a bit. Bet he still gets the points record for kickers though....
I tend to agree with you and @LesBaker

I think Zuerlein won't be called upon for field goals quite as much in the last half of the season, as the offense gets rolling. But there ARE some tough defenses, thus some tougher red zone opportunities down the stretch.

My guess would be: 16 more field goals and 29 more extra points, for a back-half total of 77, and a full season total of 176 points. That would still shatter the existing record for kickers.

I answered Yes to both, because we will be going up against several Div. Leaders soon, and it may come down to FG's!
But I have one question do these records include point scored in Playoffs and the SB!?

No, Dave. It is just regular season records. Hard to believe Wilkins scored more in ‘03 than any of the years ‘99-‘01

If I recall correctly, Jeff Wilkens got injured and couldn't kick, and the Rams had to go for it on 4th downs and had to go for the 2 point conversions after TD's, ending up setting an NFL record for 2 pt conversions in a game. One of you ROD stat guru's remember the year and game?

**Update: Legatron now has 114pts in 9 games, on pace for 203 for the season!! I left the poll open if anyone wants to change his or her answer....I may just do that. I believe he will break the Ram record, held by Wilkins, as well as the NFL kickers record of 164, but now it is getting harder to believe he won't break Tomlinsons 186!!

Congrats to Zuerlein. He has been a monster this year. Automatic.

We face all 3 other division leaders and of the last 7 games I think we have the hardest schedule.

If anything we may rely on GZ Legatron and our defense more than ever.

I pledged my allegiance to this kid ever since he nailed that FG to beat SF his rookie year. Crazy to think fans wanted him gone considering the carousel of starting placekickers in the NFL.

The only two misses I can recall that were very frustrating was last time we played @ Vikings and earlier this year vs Seattle. Compare that to most team's/kicker troubles.

I think that calculates out to an average of about 3.5 field goals per game for the remaining 7 to beat Tomlinson's 186 points. It won't be easy, but I hope he can pull it off.

I know it was the 2000 season when they were rolling in the first 6 games. Maybe the falcons?

He lost Luke 3 games in 2015. He has an amazing leg. It just shows you how special The Rams special teams is this year. They will get all get all 3 to the pro bowl this season.

Yet another amazing signing this offseason to keep him for three more years. If he ends up breaking records this season and continues with this accuracy we should tack on a 2-3 year extension to that this offseason.
