We're gonna see if Jerry Gray can get him going. I do like their new DC hire btw, but he's a DL source positional coach so this one will be all about whether Jerry can tap into his talent.

Why, please tell, we’re we not doing something similar? I would be feeling pretty confident in him becoming a better player in our team. Ho hum...

Has our front office gone back packing in Asia for the spring? :-)

Wow, I am surprised he only went for a 5th round pick considering he was on his rookie contract. He has been pretty up and down in Detroit, and the achilles tear is very concerning, but he is only a few years removed from being taken 2nd overall, I believe. For a 5th, I would have wanted to roll the dice on a reclamation project. I am surprised that was all the Lions could get for him. I heard the Lions were looking for a 3rd, which would have been too rich for my blood - and, apparently, for NFL GMs too.

EDIT - I was mistaken, he went 3rd overall in 2020, behind Joe Burrow and Chase Young. Not 2nd overall.

He was seemingly beginning to come on for a 5th round pick that young I'm thinking we don't get anyone as good as that in 5th round.

Was just watching a Lions podcast yesterday that was mentioning a rumor that we were looking to trade a 3rd rnd pick for him. The rumor made sense given Pleasant would be familiar with him, but I was worried about the compensation. I would be pissed if we gave a third for him, but a 5th...makes me wonder if we actually even tried.

I don't see a player like Okudah being someone McVay would want on the team. Hard pass

I mean, Aubrey Pleasant spent almost a year with him. I'm sure if we thought he was worth it we would have made the trade.

Disappointed that we didn't make that trade, if we were even trying. I'd take a shot on Okudah every day of the week for a 5th. He was outstanding in college, a short time ago.

Good deal for both tbh would have liked to add him for that but not a huge letdown to not get him.

The #3 overall pick for a 5th round pick lol.
A pick by the former Patricia regime which was fired shortly thereafter.

Lions have signed three capable new defensive backs and will likely pick up another top prospect cb in the first or second round of the draft. They don't want or need Okudah who was benched in favor a 6th rounder last year.

It appears they hand off half of his $10m+ 2023 contract to the Falcons. Lions certainly weren't going to pick up his 5th year for $11m+.

Like the Rams, cutting a loss and gaining some cap.

Fifth round picks are gold to Snead. He can’t be trading them away flippantly.

Seriously though. I bet Aubrey Pleasant had some input on wether or not the Rams should pull the trigger.

Pretty sure none of our 5th rounders were ahead of Falcons so would have taken a 5th and another pick or a 4th to beat them. Just as a bit of perspective for those thinking a 5th was worthy of the trade.

Rams defensive backs coach Aubrey Pleasant was the Lions defensive backs coach in 2021 and for the first 8 games in 2022. He would have an idea of

Pleasant would have definitely had some input on a potential deal. The guy was a BUST for Detroit. Two major injuries entering his fourth season in the NFL. Atlanta will have to decide by May 1st on whether to pick up his cost controlled fifth year option. So basically if they don’t and he balls out he’s a free agent but if they do and he stays on his current trajectory you’re stuck with him for two years. Big decision looming with little time and lots of questions. I’m glad that the Rams took a pass.
