My wife was planning a small 50th bday party for me this Saturday, with just 25-35 of closest friends and relatives getting email invitations. Well, I come from a large Italian family on my mother's side, her having 12 bothers and sisters.Word had gotten out and people who aren't even invited are rsvping that they will be showing up.I'm talking great aunts and uncles from New York, New Jersey and even my Mother's cousin from Florida is making the trip to Rhode Island. We are now up to about 75-80 people!!!

Just reserved second half keg, and wife is out buying more chicken, sausage and peppers, pasta, meatballs etc. Now I have to trade Friday off work and rent folding tables and chairs, buy more booze, appetizers etc.

It's great to be appreciated and loved, but man, this is getting out of hand. Exactly the reason we eloped and got married down in Florida with just my mom, her Mom and a few other close relatives, and told everyone when we got back from honeymoon

Well; with that many guests... I'd venture to say you have a pretty amazing circle of family and friends.

People don't come from such distance for the free food and booze. They must like you. Which is hard to understand.

Sounds like a blast Rhody! I'm sure the pic of you grinning ear to ear sitting on the 50 yard line at Rams stadium on the party invite is impossible to resist! It's good that you all are getting together for a happy occasion. So often we don't see friends and relatives unless in mourning a fallen loved one. And it seems we always agree then to get together more often under happier circumstances but we rarely do really get around to doing it.

My son and his beloved are getting married in the spring and man is it turning into a event. I may have suggested eloping on more than one occasion. Ha

Now hop to it man! You've got work to do.

And have a Happy Birthday!

I am pretty sure they are all coming in because due to my drug and alcohol issues in the 80's and early 90's they didnt think I would still be alive !!!

Will you do a vanishing act like Bilbo did at his birthday bash? You have to do something memorable and cool besides passing out in the cake, which I hope is as awesome as his was. :)

Happy 50th Rhody. But the way you limit these things is that you require a present (minimum value $50) in order to attend. You'll either get a bunch of crap you never needed (much like a wedding) or a nice small group.

dammit why didnt I think of that.

I actually requested no gifts, and for people to bring donations for local food bank. I'll be standing guard by the eggplant parm with a basket with logo of food bank on it , and telling every one " put food in here, and you can take some food off the buffet table"
