In our universe, the Rams drafted Aaron Donald with the 13th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

There was another player, though, who many thought the Rams should take with that pick. Johnny Manziel.

There was definitely a pro-Manziel contingent. Thankfully, wiser heads prevailed, and the Rams took a future HOF and Top 5 all-time defensive player rather than a smug, arrogant, future bust.

Of course, somewhere in the multiverse, there is a universe where the Rams took Manziel over Donald.

I don't want to even visit that place!

Can i visit the universe where GRob, Donnie Avery, Jason Smith and Lawrence Phillips were skipped over?

I knew that Manziel would bust from the start. He simply had so many character issues that I didn't feel even the slightest bit comfortable as the quarterback to represent the Rams. Fuck that loser hack, Bernie.

But that doesn't mean I was right: I wanted Ra'Shede Hageman over Donald.

LOL, I remember arguing against picking Manzier. I’m shocked at some of the names on your post suggesting him.

I have no recollection of that time and whom I desired.

I do remember looking at tape after our pick and being pleased with what I saw.

And that grew into the best football player that has ever walked the planet.

I absolutely couldn't stand Manziel and would have had a hard time being a football fan while he was the QB of LA

Of course, in 2016, we would have had the 1st pick in the draft and gotten Jared Goff without giving up any draft picks lol

But who would be the head coach because Fisher would have definitely been gone by then.

I'm surprised by Marshall. He must have not ever watched Johnny play. I remember watching him play against Mizzou and was not impressed at all.
Evans though was great!

my brother (Pitt fan in collge and NFL) texted me after the Donald pick

Bro.. you guys got a superstar

Yeah this is why I don't make declarations or have "my guy" in drafts anymore. I didn't have a preference that year. Its all so random. I mean hell, in this draft you draft a future con Greg Robinson and a future HoFer and GOAT DT.

I'll give myself credit, I was a huge AD fan pre-draft the generational talent just seemed evident watching him in college. The guy was a freak of nature both as an athlete and a technician. The only thing that people had against him was he was "too short" but Geno Atkins was a star at the time and I remember how he used his size as a leverage advantage against taller O-linemen. Thought for sure he'd get picked before us, the Lions going Ebron was the shocker and when I realized he was going to drop.

I remember a lot of, if not most, Rams fans freaking out at the time about how we didn't need another DT. Pretty humorous in retrospect.

But... I also thought GRob would be dominant as well, so there's that.

I was like "that Johnny Manziel so hot right now." Love me the playmakers. :laugh4:
You mean Johnny Manziel QB for the FCF Zappers of the Fan Controlled Football League. Man - did we miss out on that nugget.

I think it was @jrry32 that called Donald out when I was looking at that draft. I didn't think we needed another DT, but he convinced me (correctly) that you just don't pass that kind of talent up.

I didn't, and I dont think many on this forum even thought of taking Manziel. I also remember thinking "....awesome, another DT that we don't need." When we picked Donald.

Same here. I just remember watching the highlight reel for AD and thinking, "WOW"! Just the sheer number of times he kept exploding into the backfield to disrupt a play.

This play from Duke sealed it for me that this guy was special:
