What is it about the beach?

It’s salty, sandy, dirty, hot, sunny, windy as can be, the shells hurt your feet, the sharks attack in knee deep water apparently which wigs my wife out. I friggen love it. I couldn’t live here but I can park my fat ass in front of the ocean in an umbrella city for a week every year until I die.

As I write this I have a cooler full, a morning rocktail, jazz playing, and teams are starting to report to camp.

Happy vacation everyone

Grew up about 7 miles from the beach.
Many a spring day we’d skip school and go head down to surf or swim.
At night, usually after some drinks, would go for late night swims....strip down, jump off the end of the pier and swim around. Would never do that now, haha.

You hear those waves?

Well, that's the ocean calling me. The water gets separation anxiety when it can't see me... and I have the same problem.

There are few things more relaxing than taking a stroll along the beach, day or night.
A jog along the beach is very healthy.
Soaking up the rays while sprawled out on a beach can open a transcendental link with your soul.
Watching children build sandcastles gives you hope for the future.
Watching pretty girls play beach volleyball gives you hope for the present.
An east coast sunrise with a bloody mary or a west coast sunset with a bottle of champagne is a wonderful way to start or end a day.
A night-time campfire on the beach among friends and a stocked cooler makes the world a finer place.

Hard to not love the beach. My wife and I got married on the beach - black tie - shoes optional.

Swimming in the ocean has saved my life.
I love Santa Barbara. I won’t be here forever cause of the taxes in cali, but man has it be awesome. All I know is my next in 2 to 3 years when i do move, i will definitely be staying close to the water.
Costa Rica is calling my name
Here is my son fishing on a completely empty Padaro Beach - epic

Wifey and I hit the beach for happy hour almost every day from May to October...bottle of wine or cooler of beer..backgammon board or parchisi or mandala.

Nothing like a quick swim after working out in the sun all day. Some days I run down there, about 1.6 miles.. best time yet is just over 12 minutes

Sunday mornings I go for a long run usually last 2 miles are on the shore, and meet her there and have breakfast, a swim and head home by noon

I haven't been to the beach for decades.
When i was a kid, i used to go to Torquay in England every year with my family.
Lovely part of the country.
I don't know what it's like there now, but it had great beaches, clean air, and huge jelly fish in the harbour.

Can’t imagine living away from the ocean.
I share a beach house with my inlaws, and sister/bro in law and their 3 boys. Spend as much time there in the summer as possible.

I wish we had more lakes and streams out here in Socal -- I started to try out fishing last year and my son and I enjoy it very much. But after going to visit fam up in Oregon last year... the water out here does not compare.
The beaches however......

A few years back I discovered a cool little spot near Laguna Beach--- Aliso Beach. The water is spectacular. Different shades of blue. You wouldn't think you were in SoCal with water like that. Love it. We are planning a little "staycation" in a few weeks to stay out near there (Dana Point) and then head down to San Diego for a bit. Gonna try my hand at Stand Up Paddleboarding and see if I don't kill myself.

Santa Barbara is cool.
Weird onramps on the left hand side of the freeway. Used to drive south to SB for shows or whatever quite a bit, but, those damn on ramps took me by surprise every time. Haha.
There was a little drum shop, Mike’s Drum Shop, used to hang out there when Is go down. Don’t know if it’s still there.

I have almost lost my life a couple times on those onramps - Californians do not like to let people merge it seems, had to learn the hard way

I learned years ago never signal you want to change lanes in this state. You don't wanna tip them off. When entering on ramps I gun it and get in front the car ahead of me because the car behind is going to try and cut me off. Then I'm two cars ahead of the asshole laughing the whole time. :sneaky:

I like the beach as a change of pace but not just any beach. I've become quite the beach snob with time. I've been on white sand, green sand, black sand, golden sand, muddy sand, singing sand I'm sure I've forgotten others but my favorite is coral sand. I've never been disappointed with a coral sand beach.

Is singing sand the same as barking sand? They have barking sand beach on Kauai. It sounds like the sand barks as you walk across it
