It might be worth it for these guys to hire security, this seems to be a thing. Thieves know that players and their families and friends will be gone for 3 or 4 hours and they take advantage. You hear about this and you wonder if they have security systems.

Growing up our house was broken into 4 times - before my parents finally got an alarm.

A few years ago when my fiance moved in (now wife) my condo got broken into. I ordered a self monitoring alarm that weekend and brought it to our new house. It's the perfect solution to the whole alarm monthly payment thing that's ridiculous, while keeping your home protected. Can't believe he didn't have anything..
