He's not Havenstein-sized (6'4", 306 lbs.), but he's smart, a good pass-protector, good with technique. Love this pick a lot more than I thought I would. Maybe he's @oldnotdead 's Havenstein replacement? :P

I like him. Reminds me of Havenstein, actually

Just never realized that Rob Havenstein was 6'8" tipping in at 330#.
Wow.

Havenstein's never been a strong player; ever since we drafted him, he's won with technical prowess. McClendon reminds me of a smaller Havenstein coming out, actually. Never going to be the strongest (even though he's plenty strong), but will win with technique.

So is this guy strictly a right tackle? Any chance he can switch or cross train?

I'm not sure. He doesn't have the athleticism to survive long at left tackle, but he's a smart technician with enough strength to survive right tackle, and guard is an option as well.

Are the rams targeting older players too??

Older means more experienced. They're going for more experienced, hard-working players in this draft, and I can certainly understand the thought process.

Whoops, meant this for the round 4-7 after the BYU receiver. But would love to see ages of guys they're picking.

Byron Young is 25, Stetson Bennett is around 26, Kobie Turner is 24, etc.

Annual project for the OL pipeline. Welcome to the Rams big feller!

Maybe swing tackle I'm hoping for, especially if Bruss can't cut it and we need to move Jackson inside to RG. If we have to rely on Shelton as a starter again me thinks we're gonna be in trouble again.:explode1:

Regarding the idea of being Havenstein's replacement..... I know it's not YOUR idea.... but, Havenstein is under contract for another 3 seasons and will be a big Cap hit in Dead money if released or traded. In addition, at 6'4" / 306 lbs, doesn't seem like a prototypical RT. However, one of his strengths is being able to Anchor against a Bull rush. And, considering what Les Snead said late Friday night was that they would like to able to protect Stafford from inside pressure similar to the way the Saints protected Drew Brees ; allow him to step up in the pocket consistently. I think there is a good chance they want to pair him with Avila on the inside to create a wall for Stafford.
