INDIANAPOLIS -- Another office at Halas Hall should be vacant soon as pro scout Dennard Wilson is expected to join the Rams as a defensive assistant coach, NFL sources said.

Wilson’s anticipated departure would leave the Bears thin in pro scouts leading up to free agency, as assistant director of pro personnel Kevin Turks and pro scout James Kirkland are the only men at Halas Hall who have been committed to studying NFL personnel.

Former director of player personnel Tim Ruskell had spearheaded the pro scouting department, and he has not been replaced. Former general manager Jerry Angelo also spent a good deal of time on the pro side.

New general manager Phil Emery was the college scouting director for the Chiefs, and devoted the large majority of his time to the draft prior to joining the Bears. Emery believes scouting is scouting at any level, however.

It is likely Emery will lean on the Bears coaches, as well as Turks and Kirkland, to help him through his first free agent period.

This week, the Bears’ focus will be on college prospects at the scouting combine held at Lucas Oil Stadium. But the groundwork for free agent moves is being laid by teams and agents in Indianapolis.

Wilson was well-respected at Halas Hall for his work ethic, intelligence and keen eye.

He made it known, however, that he would like to get into coaching and out of scouting. Before joining the Bears, he served as a football intern at the University of Maryland, his alma mater. Previously, he was an assistant coach at DeMatha Catholic High School, in Hyattsville, Md., for three years.

Wilson was a safety for the Redskins for three years, which helped him hook up with the Rams. One of his coaches in Washington is current Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

YES love it. Gonna rub this in with all the Bears fans tomorrow. Finally we get something from them after they have been stealing all our players. Lovie, Martz, Pace, the list is unbelievable.

That ^^^ does not look lime Dennard Wilson....

Well I brought it up and they were laughing at me saying that they are glad he's gone since the Bear's draft success has been dismal in previous years. :grr:

That was probably his fault and not Angelo's fault as to why the team drafted so poorly. New GMs usually aren't that unhappy if a scout leaves unless he already had a good reputation. It may not hurt their team that much, but the Bears liked him and wanted him to stay. That should say something.
