I live in a small town...a VERY small town (about 580). Across from our house was a mobile home, but the property got sold and they took the mobile home away. Our street is a quiet one, but on the other side of the this property is a state highway. A couple of weeks ago, after almost two years of the property being a vacant lot with trees on it, building started. It looked to be a small house with small windows and big side porch. Nope....I saw a banner on the highway side that said "Last Chance Saloon."

WTF.

I am not against saloons per se, but I don't want one 60 feet from my front porch. I am worried about noise and drunks ambling through our yard. I don't know what I'm going to do about it.....

Check with local zoning officials..make sure the owners took the proper steps to get the business approved

I will....but the City Hall is about 150 feet away, so it would be pretty bold to do this without them knowing..

I've heard about these small town bars

If it’s in California, as long as they have proper ADA access, gender neutral bathrooms, handicap parking, pay their bar tenders $15/hr. Offer proper medical benefits, pay their liquor licensing and carry proper liability insurance, it should be a thriving business.

But seriously, that would give me pause, as well, @LoyalRam . Hopefully it will be fairly benign in your neighborhood.

Welp, guess you might as well apply for a job as a bouncer then

I'm hoping it dies, like the other bar does every so many months. The on and off again bar on Main street is an old building, where at least 10 business owners have tried to make it work in the last 15 years. We are about 9 miles from a town of 28,000, so many got to bars there...

Burn it to the ground.

Yeah, well my next door neighbor set up a huge batting cage; with lights for nighttime use. I'd much rather have the bar vs. 20 or so screaming kids 3-4 times a week. Oh, and they use aluminum bats. So, it's clank, clank, clank, clank for hours. I can't stand it!!!

Yeah, I would not like that at all. Once the sun goes down I want zero social interaction or evidence of social interactions going on that aren't my own around my house.

It would also depend on what kind of bar it ends up being. A place where young, obnoxious kids go till 3 AM yelling and carrying on, a biker bar with motorcycles blaring through the night, one of those sad old people bar where its mostly just quiet and depressing and they sit around playing the slots or just drinking their sorrows away, etc. Could be very different levels of obnoxious.

Wow @LoyalRam.
Now I want to google where you live. 580 people - interesting.
I rode through/by a post office/gas station in Wyoming once - city name escapes me, but had population of 10, (probably including dogs).

I like to say we have no stop lights, cross walk lights, and stop signs are optional...
