Heard a guy on the radio predicting that the defensive minded new coach of the bears would want an offensive guy like O’Connell to help young qb Justin Fields. It would be a lateral move but once again he would get the chance to call plays.
O’Connell is already on the HC track he’ll probably get one next year, what is it about these guys?

Don't freak us out like that!

Just a random guy on the radio with a "prediction"?

He's had interviews with three teams I think, would have to look through the other thread to be sure but yes it's a real possibility he gets a HC job.

The real question is, would McVay block him 2 years in a row if he's offered an OC job elsewhere that allows him to call plays?

Does McVay have anyone else in the pipeline?

I absolutely think he would block him from a lateral move. But I also think he'll get an HC offer out there somewhere, so it won't matter.

Andre:
Not so fast. Coach Mac didn't block Matt LaFleur when he transferred to Tennessee to become their OC because he would then call the plays. This move, of course, was instrumental in his getting the Green Bay job one year later.
Coach Mac should hang on to Mr. McConnell unless he is taking a job that is a clear upgrade over the position he has now. And for an OC that would include calling the offense's plays.

I am no longer concerned about our coaches being poached.

McVay is establishing the most successful tree in football history.

Just replace them with others to be replaced.

Great problem to have if you think about it.

He could definitely block him because he already has once. He blocked him from taking the OC job with the Chargers when Staley wanted to hire him.

One vote for Jay Gruden. Gruden always would run the ball. Also they go way back and I for see Jay having the balls to stand up to Sean and hold him accountable to the run game.

Sean would probably let Jay call the plays. He owes him that. Now that I think of it maybe that means Jay isn't in play. We'll see if OConnell gets that job will be interesting.

Plus as a lateral move McVay can say no. I would hope he would.
