We have a bunch of 6 round picks. We have to pick somebody. Why not a CB? If he falls out of the 4th round, he could be in play. We're loaded as starters go, but our depth could be improved.

Walterfootball has always seemed out of touch with the Rams roster and needs; and probably so for other teams as well. Sometimes I see their mock and just shake my head at some of their logic.

What I do like about that site is that they break down prospects into 4-3 players and 3-4 players at DE and OLB.

Dude Walter football is a complete Buffon. His site is better for draft numérics than analytics which is abysmal. On pace to be worse than bleacher report.

Our depth is stacked. We have:
1. Marcus Peters
2. Aqib Talib
3. NRC
4. Sam Shields
5. Kayvon Webster
6. Troy Hill

We could use more depth at safety. If this kid can play safety, that might be why they're interested.

Uh, the first 3 on that list are starters--which are top notch.

The next 3 on your list? Webster was unimpressive IMO last season and is coming off an Achilles issue. I'd rather have the $3 mil to go towards Donald or extending an OL. Shields hasn't played in 2 years and, personally, I'm concerned about his noggin. So now we're down to Hill as next man up. Then who?

However, your point about Safety depth is well taken. I have been advocating drafting one because Joyner might be tough to sign next year and should he get hurt, we don't really have anybody who would inspire confidence.

Yes, let's discuss the next 3 on my list:
1. Shields - Former Pro Bowl CB who has had injury issues. That's not a problem when he's our #4 CB. He's depth.
2. Webster - You say he was unimpressive. I could not disagree more. He was a solid #2 CB last year, and the Vikings game is the perfect example of that. The durability concerns are accurate, but the fact is that he's our #5 CB. How many teams can say that their #5 CB is a solid #2 CB? Exactly.
3. Hill - He performed admirably in the playoffs against the Falcons. Many here thought he might be able to step into our #2 CB role. He's our #6 CB.

You're not going to have All Pros as your #4, #5, and #6 CBs. However, we have two guys who are arguably starting caliber CBs on at least a handful of NFL teams (Shields and Webster), and we have another guy who played well when thrust into the starting lineup last year. We're stacked at CB. We don't need starters or depth there.

And I see no point in cutting Webster. His contract ends after 2018. It has minimal impact on any extensions. As we learned last year, CB depth is invaluable. Keep him. You're not going to find someone better that's cheaper. And I'd rather spend our draft picks improving depth at our spots.

Webster is very much likely to start the year on the PUP list. Achilles injuries are no joke.

Sorry, jrry, I just don't see it that way. Shields as the #4 CB? That would mean he's the next man up should anything happen to our starting outside CBs. You're bumping him ahead of Webster (whom you actually like) and Hill? The guy hasn't played in 2 years. He might not even make it out of camp. The Rams are just taking a shot on him. That shows more of a "lack of depth" to me.

Webster really only impressed me in 1 game last year. He made a few plays here and there in the handful of other games he played. Sorry, but I didn't think he was a legit #2. Maybe it was that he was banged up all year, but he might be limping into this season as well.

As for the $3mil for Webster, it's not detrimental should the Rams keep him, but that's a lotta cheese to have riding the bench if he's your #5 CB; especially when you look at where the $$ could be spent.

You mentioned UDFAs for camp/depth. I AGREE. But a late 6th rounder isn't much more than that, so that's why I don't mind the Rams looking into him. Ultimately, if a $3mil depth piece can be replaced with a 6th round/UDFA contract, that's a good thing. There are some big contracts coming up and the Rams are gonna be looking to save where they can. I know Webster is in the last year of his deal, but if that $$ is the difference between extending an OL now instead of risking him hitting FA next year, I'm for it.

I think it's the opposite. The Rams are taking a chance on a guy who was a Pro Bowl CB the last time he played. He was out of football due to health, not due to a lack of ability. Maybe the health issues pop up again. If they do, we have sufficient depth to cover for that. But we're not relying on him to be a starter. We're only relying on him to play if one of our starters gets hurt.

The money is already allocated for Donald, and the extensions for the others will be coming out of the 2019 and beyond cap. We're fine with our money right now. I don't remember Webster having any bad games. I remember Webster being a solid starter for us and performing quite well against Adam Thielen before his injury.

Odds are that it won't be. And that $3 million won't make any real difference for extending anyone. We have a crapload of money available in 2019. We can extend the guys we need to extend. You just expressed concern over Shields' durability, why would we cut Webster if that's true?

I can sure see where adding a Safety in this Draft is a possibility. Chandon Sullivan does look like a very late 6th rd selection he may be a decent back up safety type for Wade in 2018 season. With safety Cody Davis now departed Blake Countess was 2016 Draft, Round 6, #196 overall (Eagles), Isaiah Johnson (2015 UDFA)& Marqui Christian 2016 Draft, Round 5, #167 overall (Cardinals) are our reserves @ safety.I also read where the Rams have set up a visit with the highly talented safety Justin Reid a projected late first round selection.

I like having Webster entering the picture late after the regular season begins.To add to this DB unit. Certainly no reason to rush Webster back. He will be ready & roaring to go by the bye. If the Rams are in full health in this unit just before the trading 2018 season deadline desperate corner needy teams will be over joyed to offer up good wealth of draft assets for a starting caliber corner like Webster or Shields.

Hmmm, what's the name of the cb, from Tulane....FA we picked up;....think from the Jags? Ran that 4.3 a year ago...
 
Shields played 1 game in 2016, none in 2017. Lot of time to go without taking a hit or making a hit. Webster is coming off an achilles injury, not sure how far along he is in his recovery, may be limited at the start of camp. Hill was good last season, expecting more of the same. Certainly can see the Rams investing a 6th rounder in a CB, can stash on the practice squad if everything goes well with Shields & Webster.
