Wow fascinating break down. However I think most of us know that our offense has basically been the same for the past two years. I expect that next year we are going to see some more formations and some evolution in certain areas.

Hate to say it but this shows that experience really matters. I dont think that the Pats were a more talented team than us. I just think that they were a smarter team then us. McVay will no doubt get this fixed, especially now that this has been made public. It just sucks because even with all of their intel and planning we still were just two plays away from winning

I liked this piece.

#1 - you can bet McVay will be seeing everything they Pats players saw when he does his film review. McVay's not the type that wilts after a loss like this or binges on Netflix and ice cream like some whiny little bitch coaches, he hits the film room and learns everything he can. While losing the Super Bowl sucked, make no mistake - McVay WILL be a better coach because of it. And when you think about how good he's been so far, that ought to scare the ever loving shinola out of the rest of the NFL.

#2 - to reinforce #1 above, read the stuff about McVay towards the end of the piece.

The inexperience of McVay was the difference in SB53. But that is part of hiring a rookie head coach that makes the Super Bowl in his second year. What sticks in my craw is that the Chicago loss was the template for Belichick. No Rams loss (granted there were only 3) last season was as complete as in Chicago. Why McVay didn't adequately game plan for that in SB53 must be due to inexperience. At least something good comes from a Super Bowl loss. That being experience!

If a couple of plays go our way, yes.

But even then, I would want McVay to look back at this game with a critical eye to see what he and the team could have done better.

I don't know if Josh McDaniels is doing the same ... but he should given that his O was stymied almost as bad as the Rams, despite having a team with lots of Super Bowl experience, including a QB making his 9th appearance in the big game. The Patriots won this almost exclusively based on experience and a little bit of luck.

I sort of beg to differ!! The start was the old D’Cordintor of the Pat !! Go back & look when Goff had troubles. The inside info was killer.

No one talks about it , but that was my biggest concern. Patricia really confused Goff.

We needed more personnel packages in the SB for sure.

Belichick has been dumbing down explosive offenses forever. Queue up the Giants/Bills way back when, the Super Bowl the Giants won somehow that they probably shouldn't have.

He's the best. Plain and simple. But it's cool, because McVay is that caliber of a coach and he's going to learn and improve from it.

McVay surprised everyone in year one. Then they lost the first round to Atlanta. We figured McVay was a smart guy. The team was young. That could be a valuable learning experience for both players and coaches.

Then came year two. McVay was even better. The team was better. The obviously did learn something from that loss.
Now comes year 3. I don't think its unreasonable to think that McVay and the team could get over that final hump. Both him and Goff have shown a history of bouncing back and improving after letdowns.

Next year is gonna be another fun year. Maybe this time that one last box gets checked.

We've heard every coach in every sport say essentially the same thing after every loss.

I can say I'm 16 feet tall and from Mars. IOW talk is cheap, action is the answer. Let's see if they take action. To date they have not.

I'm all for making the defense better, though late season it was very good.

In the losses the issue was Goff and McVay. Or better said the position that McVay put Goff in too often.

Even the win versus DET was not a good day for them. And the D rose to the occasion for the win.

As much as they need a fwe of their positions upgraded they need the HC's decision making upgraded.

It's a good read, and while reading and following along it really displays the disparity in experience, acumen and ability, and preparation between the two staffs.
