To think that he was a FA is mind boggling.

We were lucky to get him.

We can all thank Hekker, for telling the coaching staff to bring him in.
The Bucs panicked on him as a rookie because he had some issues on PATs. Succup isn't terrible, but he's 35 and his leg strength is pretty much toast. They don't really even try long FGs, or he'd be exposed even more.

I hope the Rams keep Gay around for a long time.

he has been great - but kickers are fickle... kind of like a lot of mlb hitters

one year to the next can end up being quite different.

From Sam Sloman, to Kai Forbath to Matt Gay. Thank goodness Johnny Hekker recommended Gay to Sean McVay. When they signed Gay, I felt good because I knew he had a big leg and was highly regarded coming out of Utah. So I was glad he was available and it's great he's worked out so well. Considering the special teams not being so special, Matt Gay has been an upgrade in more ways then one.

It's crazy how lucky we got in that whole kicker changeover. Moving on from GZ was the right choice but whiffing on the draft pick replacement normally means you're in for a rough ride. Hell sometimes it's rough even if you hit on the kicker, where you gotta endure young kicker mistakes. Then they find MG it's kind of nuts. Oh and thanks Hekk. :clinkingbeer:

I still shake my head that people were suggesting the Rams move on from him after he had one weird game earlier this season against Seattle.
He's been really, really good.
Wonder if they'll keep him.

He will be an rfa this year and you have to think he gets a nice payday.

Oh, I thought UFA, I messed that up.

They'll keep him.
I didn’t notice you said ufa :fistbump1:

I just looked to see if they had one of their projected market value but they don’t. I can’t imagine he gets a huge deal with our cap situation but I’d think he gets a 3 year deal with a little raise.

The original round tender value is about 2.2.. I think that would do it. A little less than GZ.
