Is the policy to suspend after a second failed test? I can't remember..........

The NFL will not fix the PED issue until they can test for HGH and the suspensions are stiffer. It's way too easy to cheat. I suspect that in exchange for dropping weed from the list of no-no's they will get HGH testing, which the players union has pushed back against for a long time.

But everybody else cheats so this isn't bad.- Patriots Fan

On the too easy to cheat part, I was wondering if the Patriots encouraged him to do this. Would taking PEDs help in his recovery from ACL surgery? Get him back in shape faster? If you had a star player who was at the end of his career lifespan but was struggling with injury and recovery and wasn't on his last chances as far as drug testing is concerned it would be worth gambling the suspension. You know, at worst, he'll be out 4 weeks but you'll get him back healthy and stronger because of it. 4 games is worth giving up if it lets you squeeze a couple more good seasons out of them.

Steroids do help people recover from injuries faster. I imagine that steroids is at the top of the list of PEDs, but we don't know what Edelman is accused of taking.

It wouldn't be the first time a team has done something like that.

I've posted this a few times before. The Steelers team doctor got caught in an HGH sting some years back. There was a great story by ESPN on him, the first link is that article and it's well worth eading..........the second is a story about him getting 10 years in jail.

I would too. HGH along with testosterone is being used for PTSD and head trauma patience with great success. The one factor that all these athletes who have been found to have CTE is not only damage but extremely low levels of hgh.

Testosterone and other derivatives are great for rebuilding muscle, but do not build tendon or ligament strength. So using a PED after you just tore a ligament would be stupid.

Well a torn ligament probably does affect your muscle though. Can’t lift weights and need to rebuild the muscle you might have lost wgile rehabbing.

And do the muscles also help stabilize? Idk.

Yes, but if your muscles are recovering at a much faster pace this leaves the ligament/tendon that was injured even in more danger of being injured again bc it is nowhere near the strength the muscles surrounding it are.

I got a groundless conspiracy theory:
Y'know Brady's quack-business-partner Alex Guerrero gives medical advice to Patriots players and Brady sort of needs Edelman for this upcoming season. I'd put a rod-buck on Brady encouraging Edelman to get in better shape and referring him to Guerrero.

And as a reminder Alex Guerrero was busted by the FTC for selling his Supreme Greeens supplement as a cure for cancer.

Get him back in shape faster?

This. Some people might want to focus solely on muscle mass, but PEDs are a whole lot more than that -- look at Austin Pettis, Maria Sharapova and Lance Armstrong. I mean you can do all the zero-G treadmill running and pool aerobics you want during and after knee rehab, but getting to prime football shape is going to take much harder work, imo, especially for an older athlete.

But yeah, we still don't know the PED he was busted for.

why are no Raiders on that list? no wonder why they sucked last year ... they didn't cheat.
