Lamarcus Joyner played both safety & as our Nickle Slot cover man. With NR-C out for the Saints game Joyner worked back in his previous 3 seasons role. Joyner is just as good covering the slot as he is back @ safety. Rams Org. must consider Joyner as a top priority UFA in March.

LJ's versatility will make him a hot item for other NFL teams looking for needed help in their secondaries. That will be a big problem for the Rams. Rams do not have any talented safeties in waiting to take LJ's spot. Rams other top safety Cody Davis is also a UFA along with NR-C. Rams have 3 WWC's in Countess, Christian & Isaiah Johnson in reserve. Countess has been utilized heavy the last 2 games...however he might also be leading the team in missed tackles too. Countess played much better late last season but is struggling to replace the loss of Cody Davis who went to the IR.

Lets hope that both starting safeties JJ III & LJ can remain healthy because there is no real talent on this roster to replace them. Rams will certainly be looking for some safety & corner help in the 2018 draft.

In fairness to Fisher we did have McLeod and McDonald then McDonald and Mo and it’s not like that didn’t work. He had Joyner playing the slot and playing that hybrid safety role where he spent a lot of time near the line of scrimmage. They were able to have all 3 on the field at all times that’s maximizing your 53 man roster and making sure your best players are on the field.

It’s like now that’s fisher gone everyone wants to critique everything he did but you can find too many faults on the defensive side of the ball because ALL of these guys are and were fisher guys. He took a flier on Joyner McLeod Jenkins Aaron Donald Mark Barron found countless undrafted free agents and got guys big contracts on another team. Fisher could spot and find defensive talent with the best of them

Had to give you a thread winner there - Fisher did build and play a damn good D, which in all honestly has allowed McVay to overhaul the O and for the Rams to be where they are now.

Wow...pretty awesome to hear this about Joyner. Rams do have plenty of really good players these days...so refreshing!

Joyner is a fantastic safety. Pro Bowler in my opinion. Dudes gonna get paid. Remember, he's a FA after this year.
The NFL will always award the Earl Thomas's, Malcolm Jenkins, Kam Chancellor's, Harrison Smith's & Landon Collins's will always get the pro bowl votes....

When you look ahead @ the other NFL teams highly probable 2018 UFA corners & this list is bad. I do not see one UFA corner worth any considerations IMO. The best is our own Trumaine Johnson. The next is another Ram who is our 3rd Corner Nickell Robey-Coleman.

The value of LJ's versatility is off the charts in comparison to what is out there.

LJ has started @ the below defensive positions in college & NFL:
#1-Outside corner
#2-Nickle corner
#3-Strong Side OLB'er
#4-Deep Free Safety
#5-Strong Safety

How Snead & McVay handle this off season FA'cy is going to be very interesting. I hope LJ is high on their desires.

I think we all can pretty much agree to this, the unfortunate thing is that there is other parts to a football team besides Defense and ST’s which is what Fishers undoing was. Fish as a d cord would be pretty beast.

I’ve been really high on Johnson since we drafted him but once in a while he’ll take a Craig Dahl angle like in that Seahawks game. He’s gotten considerably better though.

Joyner I was dead wrong about, thought he was to little of a guy but I was so wrong. I get excited knowing he’s on the field now and they are throwing his way.

I'm not seeing much criticism of Fisher regarding the defense... I think he's gotten a very fair shake on that... deservedly so.

Nope, it always was the offense.

Fact is, he was 50% of a Head Coach.

We now see what 100% of a head coach can do... draft well... acquire well... assemble an effective staff... on BOTH sides of the ball.

BTW... Barwin was a Fisher guy? Quinn was a Fisher guy? The guy that might have saved the game last week - Webster - is a Fisher guy? Johnson is a Fisher guy?

Yes, the core is Fisher... but the names I just rattled off have been pretty solid contributors all year. BTW, Phillips is doing a better job than Williams, a Fisher disciple.

I'm very glad the Rams moved on from Fisher. Half of a coach just doesn't cut it.

I think he's even better in the slot. Dude put on a clinic Sunday against the Saints, helping our secondary have one of its strongest days in coverage all season.

Seems like you missed the point and instead wanted to cherry pick.

Robert Quinn drafted in 2011 didn’t play a lot Fisher hired in 2012 Got Quinn to a pro bowl level. If you mean John Johnson and not Trumaine than of course that’s not a Fisher guy he was just drafted. GZ, JH, Craig Dahl would be starting right now if he wasn’t hurt. And it’s more than just the core of this team pretty much all of the key backups as well.

Yes it takes more than defense and special teams But he drafted Gurley when running backs wasn’t getting drafted high. I know it’s fun to rail on Fisher now that he’s gone and we are winning . But talking about why Joyner never started at Safety with fisher is a bit of a disservice.

And Phillips doing better than GW is debatable because Phillips have something GW never had and that’s an offense. I’m just trying to put everything in perspective y’all all day about Fisher sucking on the offensive side but defensively and personnel wise much can’t be said about the defense and how he choose to play players

I don't think so... you made a point of capitalizing "ALL" (see below). Just pointing out that was not correct. There are a number of non-Fisher contributors on this defense. As far as Quinn, Fisher inherited him... Spagnuolo/Devaney drafted him.
because ALL of these guys are and were fisher guys.

Check out the numbers... this defense is doing better than anything Williams trotted out there.
If it's because Williams never got the lift from an offense, well... I wonder who was responsible for that?

If you want to defend 1/2 of a coach that wasted at least two years, knock yourself out.

I'd be one thing if people started a new thread (or multiple threads) every day ragging on Fisher (definitely happened on other boards about Linehan and Spagnuolo)... but that doesn't/won't happen here. IMO, Fisher's getting off light.
