Newton is the closest defensive tackle prospect I've seen that compares to AD - and I've looked at Ed Oliver, Quinnen Williams, Byron Murphy, and Kobie Turner. And he played all of 2023 on an injured foot.

Quite simply, he is a wonder to watch. It's not just an extremely quick first step. It's not just surprising strength from a short, squatty frame. It's his technical prowess; his hands are powerful, heavy, and precise, and he has counters upon counters.

I will be ecstastic if he's our pick at #19. If we manage to trade down a bit, get a pick, and still get him, I'll be over the fucking moon.

Count me in as wanting to get Newton on this team. If he's set to fall, I'd love to get Latu drafted first and then trade up for Newton. That would set our D line up to cause havoc lol

I like the player. I don’t like him at 19.

AD coming out of Pitt had the quickness of a linebacker, the strength of a nose tackle, and the pass rush arsenal of a 10 year veteran. And there's no exaggeration in that sentence, the measurables and film tell the tale. I don't think it's safe to say there's any draft prospect that "compares to AD".

This kid looks good though, if he's close to as good as Kobie Turner he'll be well worth a first round pick. And like you said, a hell of a pick after a trade down. I just have a feeling Snead and McVay are looking elsewhere though. There are some 2nd/3rd round DTs like Fiske/Ruke/Wingo/Michael Hall that are far, far closer to the Jer'Zhan Newton tier than Newton is to the AD tier.

I think the question to ask when it comes to our front office and early round picks is not which player to take who can fill a hole but which player to take who can change the identity of the team.

I like the pick too, but wouldn’t be surprised for the Rams to try and trade back and grab Cooper. He’s the star CB to replace RAMSey.

I’m wondering if they like Hall and Fiske enough to try and trade up in the 2nd if they trade back in the first.

I believe Newton to be far superior to the DTs you mentioned. I do understand if we didn't draft him, but I only view him and Murphy as top flight round 1 prospects.

Latu/Verse in the first, some damn good DT’s available later on compared to the latter. Although I do like Braswell later in the draft.

However I wouldn’t be upset drafting Newton by any means. Wish we got Hunter in FA to take him for sure.

I think trying to replace AD is a mistake. You just aren't going to do it. What you do, is to try to replace the production.
Yes but if you listen close to McVay he always stresses pressure is most dominant when it comes from the interior.

The no replacing ADPOY talk is likely a bluff. Nobody should compare Newton to AD. Maybe, just maybe, during Newton’s prime, Newton and Turner can get the production of an AD.

I like Newton quite a bit. I don't love him.
Well, there's a rose in a fisted glove
And the eagle flies with the dove
And if you can't be with the one you love, honey
Love the one you're with
Love the one you're with
Love the one you're with
Love the one you're with
