The 2000 draft was supposed to be a pretty terrible year for QBs and it mostly was but for Chad Pennington, Marc Bulger, and one other more important name, Tom Brady

This draft class looks underwhelming but perhaps there is a diamond in the rough that will be drafted around the time we start picking again in the 90s 100s and 200s

Who’s your man and why?

Nobody IMO.

A truly elite QB is almost always going to be top draft pick. And many top QB draft picks still don't even work out. But the QB position is so, so heavily scouted - even when compared to other NFL positions that are looked at 24/7 by scouts - that it is hard to find guys slipping through the cracks. It is why I hated the Stetson Bennett pick. I hate drafting QBs in the mid rounds. If you draft a guy early even if you plan to sit him at first - Jordan Love, Aaron Rodgers, J.J. McCarthy, Penix - I can see that. But to take a QB in the mid to late rounds, at that point, you're 99% chance strictly drafting a backup. Why draft a backup QB, when you can sign one in free agency - and maybe even one that has actually proven he can win games in this league (those guys tend to cost more, but there are always a few out there - we just snagged one in Jimmy G). Spend the draft pick somewhere else. You can find plenty of defensive starters in rounds 3, 4, 5. Heck, offensive starters too. We found Puka late! Imaging taking someone that projected as a career backup QB instead.:dizzy:

If/when the Rams lose Stafford, I expect them to be extremely aggressive when they identify a QB they like becoming available, be it via trade or free agency or coming out in the draft, and will probably "overpay" to get him, which I am 100% good with because I trust their track record in QB evaluation. Snead did it with trading up for Goff. And did it again trading Goff and picks for Stafford. When they brought in Baker he was awesome, and lo' and behold, he is now an upper tier starter - though not quite elite. We might go bridge QB if nobody they like is available. But long term, I expect to have to pay a heavy price. I don't think the Rams under McVay will ever lose enough games to get a top draft pick naturally, barring absolutely catastrophic cluster injuries tanking the season (which we did actually see recently).

Cam Ward is an absolute stud and as good as any #1 overall prospect in my recent memory.
After him the bar drops a bit, but we’ll see come draft time how the perception changes.
I watched a ton of ole miss over the last 2 years and can’t understand how Jaxson Dart isn’t a top 10 pick.

I do not entirely disagree but you have the overlooked a fair few QBs, not least Kurt Warner. That said I agree about Bennett

I'm not nearly as high on Ward (I do think I'd take him over Sanders though), but I do agree about Dart. He is not refined, but has all the tools you'd want a franchise QB to have. I also think Dart will be picked as QB3 in the first round when it comes to it.

The top isn't great but the class has some depth of options. Rams may take one this year.

Looks Like Stafford and plays similar to Stafford. Not at his level, but when I watch Kyle McCord, he reminds me of Stafford.

Haven't watched any of his (Ward) games but am hoping to catch a few in the next two months, I thought the word on him was that he was a low 1st round pick at best who will go top of draft cause there's no QBs this year?

I have watched Sanders at Colorado the past few years. Throws a great ball, almost every throw in his arsenal. BUT, man he looks lost at times in the pocket or when flushed out of it.

He's going to get drafted early and likely not excel on a team with a poor OL.

I'm excited to get into the QB types and watch their games and he is one of them. Unfortunately Dart will probably rise due to supply and demand (otherwise he'd probably be in play for us) but as it pertains to young QBs who have all the tools, who you can park behind Stafford to learn from a true stud how it's done... Yes there are some good options.

I think Sanders' kid is going to bring a fucking circus with him. It will be Me Not We. That's not to say he doesn't fit, but he is going to need a lot of shaping I think to run this offense. Milroe is just not good enough as a passer for McVay, who values that. So our window for QBs opens up with that next tier.

Also and btw the Senior Bowl week is next week. Weigh ins start Monday, with practices Tues-Thurs. I was planning on throwing up a thread for it in this forum like last year, so people will remember to tune in to the practices. All 3 days will be covered by NFL+ and ESPN I believe has Weds and Thurs covered. From there I'm gonna be getting into some draft film this year, as I have extra time, quite excited about doing it. :part:

Couldn't agree more. I keep reading posts that say to draft lower round QB's to develop behind Stafford. It's a waste of a draft pick, IMO. I'm not even that enthusiastic about lower 1st round QB's due to flaws that we may or may not know about. If a QB isn't a TOP 3 pick in the draft, good chance he's a bust.

I like McCord, but it concerns me that he still stares down his first read so much.
Agreed and that was the knock on him at Ohio State. Great arm, can even move if he has too, but cannot come of his first read and if he cannot grow from that, his NFL career will be limited if not non existent.

I know this is going to sound like an unpopular opinion...but if Jaxson Dart is still there at #26, I'd take him. I think he could be elite.

He’s sill young too. I agree about his intangibles not least his ability to rise to the occasion

You could revers that last statement with plenty of evidence to back you up :-) (blue font)

I like McCord and Dart. But QBs are so important that teams are liable to talk themselves into them being top ten picks by draft day.

If the Rams get Stafford signed to a new deal the window is open for another good playoff run. I don’t want the Rams over drafting a QB just because every other team over values them. I’d rather push to improve the team overall.

I know the advantage of the rookie contract for a QB is kinda hamstrung if you take a guy while you already have a starter but there is significant advantage to taking a guy with tools and sitting him for a year.

I'm not sure Dart has it but there are far worse things to do than take a QB at the tail end of the 1st and have him sit a year or two behind Stafford if McVay feels like he's got room to grow.

Levis is a guy like that, I don't think Levis has it but he absolutely needed a year to sit to even see if he did.
