Joy full times here in the Rhody household. Wifey had a kidney stone surgically removed today. Hers was about the size of a large jelly bean, so the doctor said, and was stuck inside a loop of skin in her bladder.

I am dealing with the same thing, except mine are small enough to pass naturally.
 
I've never had them
I have friends that have, apparently, it's seriously comparable to giving birth.

Praying for a full recovery! From what I've heard, I would not wish that upon my enemies. Hang in there.

Had one of those during my boozing days. Went to the hospital and the doc told me he couldn't give me any pain killers because I had been drinking. He pulled a curtain around me and let me pass that stone all by myself. One of the worst pains I ever had. All the best to you and the wife as you recover from this ordeal.
 
Okay--a kidney stone thread.

I've got them. Lots of them.

About a year and a half ago I had one stuck and it would NOT pass. I was in the hospital drinking water, hoping it would pass but it wasn't happening. It was stuck near the bladder and I constantly felt I had to urinate. Very painful. They asked if I wanted them to go get it. Since I could not sleep I said yes. So they knocked me out and when I woke up I was in the worst pain of my life. They had given me as much painkiller as they could give me and I was still barely mouthing, "pain...pain". Eventually it was under control--that is until I peed. Razor blades. Blood. Awful.

They put a stent in me which I had to keep in for a week. My urine was the color of fruit punch and the stent was irritating.

Oh--and when I was in the hospital everyone kept telling me that I had LOTS of stones.

Anyway--it sucks. Big time.

And when they took the stent out? I was awake. Fortunately I kept some Percocet because all they use is a numbing gel. It's a big tube. And it hurts like hell.

So anyway--I got lots of stones and I am supposed to avoid tea and tums. I've been good with the tea. Actually I'm not supposed to have high oxalate foods. But I don't track it. I'm going to pay for it.

My girlfriend gets sodium based kidney stones. So cooking with salt is a no no.
 
I just had my second kidney stone in a year. Phosphate based, I think he said instead of oxylate which is consistent with my Crohn's even though it is in remission.

Had the stent for two months which was no bueno.

Feel better. I think I passed this last one. I dunno. The urologist gave me Tamsulosin which REALLY opens things up, so if I passed it, I didn't notice (which will make me give an air high five to the big man upstairs!)

Make sure you GET A STRAINER if they want you to pass it at home so you can get it analyzed. It's easier to prevent stones than pass them. Words to live by...
 
I've had them on 3 occasions and each time was painful! 2 times they went and got them and the 3rd they used lithotripsy to break up the stone so I could pass it! Oxalate stones from tea, chocolate and a whole list of other things I love to ingest. Good luck to you!
 
I have had them. It hurts pretty bad until they shoot you up with Tordal. I thought it was funny when I peed them out and you hear them clink against the toilet bowl.

My doctor said oxylates are the cause. Tea, Orange Juice, nuts..........all things that I really like. Stay well hydrated. I drink two big glasses of water every morning as soon as I get out of bed. Have not had a stone since I started that.
 
I've known plently of people who've had that. Get better man. They literally are rocks that come out of your doo-hickey.

Oh I just cringed .
 
Can't they break them into smaller more easily passed and less painful chunks with sound waves.

Or maybe punching you in the bladder to break them up?

Okay, here's my stent story.

My kidney stone was lodged high up near my kidney as well. They performed a stone-ectomy and put in a stent. A week later, on the Friday before the 4th of July weekend I was due to get the stent out, but the damn string they left inside my pecker had drawn itself back inside. They told me I would have to come back the next week and said to myself, fuck that. I went into their bathroom and dug the string out myself. Then I zipped up my pants and went back out to the room so the young female (not that I noticed, mind you) nurse could remove the stent.

Which she did ... hand over fist. The pain was exquisite ... and a relief.

Lithotripsy. My brother had 2 bouts of with kidney stones (which is how I knew my day was coming). The second time they used lithotripsy to break up the larger stones. Still hurts, he said.

Gaahhh, the word "chunks" makes me queasy.
 
Get better man. That's about the only malady that didn't come w/ my gene pool pack. Can't say I would want it either. (Knock on wood....)
But get better Rhodey. You and the wifey.
 
I just had my gallbladder removed because I had gallstones. Oh wait...that's not near as serious. I'll see myself out.
