I was just wondering, now that we discovered Tre White was not physically capable of playing at a high level, and the Rams drafted Limmer, who seems to have supplanted Jonah Jackson, where would you have spent the money.

No fantasy Madden moves.

NO BRAINER !! Patrick Queen, especially after TheRams didn’t resign E. Jones.(extend).Traded him for nothing w/ a year under contract.

Hindsight is brutal in football... and in life.

What we want is wisdom. So what it really comes down to is, were the moves we made wise?

I think they were given the info at the time. (If someone had better moves, then link to your post from pre-season.)

The E.Jones thing is a separate issue, as it was clearly a personality conflict of some sort that we will never hear the full story on.

Where would I? I don't remember who specifically was available so I'll just choose positions. Corner, maybe ILB, or maybe a swing tackle (try and trade Noteboom).

The team? Probably WR, I think they were looking in free agency.

They wanted Evans but he chose Tampa Bay. They seemed to want a specific receiver type.

They seemed like good moves at the time. I loved their free agency.

I figured with Tre White’s Doctor being on the Rams staff, that they had good intel on his health. I also believed that they were pretty certain that either Avila or JJ could play well at center.

My picks.

Frankie Luvu to pair with Ernest Jones

Gabe Davis for a better deep threat.

the cornerback market was thin. They got two good ones on paper.

You win some, you lose some, I think bringing D Will back has been a good move so far. In hindsight I think our vision was pretty good, we knew the Jackson and White signings were risks and didn't make any long term investments there. It'll be easy to get out of the Jackson contract after this year if he doesn't have a role to play.

Actually, it will be very costly to the Rams’ 2025 salary cap if they waive Jackson before June.

$11.3M of Dead-$, with only $3.3M of cap relief (per OTC).

The more affordable out is after the 2025 season.

Hard to say because the Rams had Jones under contract at that point and I doubt they knew they would be moving on from him.
DL, ILB, a different/better CB with that money to spend.....
I wanted Leonard Williams given the Rams didn't know what they had at the time in Fiske, Davis etc in terms of how well they would play.

If he's not considered a starter after this season we might as well cut bait. Get a little cap money in 2025 but will be free and clear of him completely for 2026. Otherwise, we're just stringing the inevitable along having an oft injured, expensive backup like we have with Noteboom.

I'm not sure I agree.

Jackson has not failed, as much as he has not been healthy.

If the 2025 interior O-Line is Avila-Limmer-Dotson, who are the top reserves should just one go down?
Dedich, McMahon and Leveston. I would prefer to have Jonah Jackson for depth.

The $3.3M of cap relief would be nice (by-the-way, the Rams are not in bad cap shape for 2025) but that would probably not get a comparable reserve O-Lineman.

Another consideration is this ... Jackson would carry a huge cap hit in 2025 for a reserve OL. However, the combined cap hit for Avila and Limmer would be less-than-$3.5M.

Wouldn't change a thing. We fans have been wanting an investment on the interior of the O Line for years and the front office delivered in a big way these last two off seasons. Drafting Avila. Trading for Dotson. Signing J Jackson in free agency. Drafting Limmer. Sure the Jackson signing hasn't worked out yet, but the intent by the front office has been to acquire big skilled players on the interior.

If they decide to move on from Jackson they'd obviously make some moves to bolster that depth through secondary free agency or draft. Wouldn't just be a vacuum of Jackson being cut and we're left with what we have today. If he's not going to be a starter I'd rather have that full cap space back in 2026 and draft a few later round olinemen for depth. It's all a gamble, just depends on how the Rams weigh the cap space over the next two seasons to using it on a backup. I can see them going either direction but the latest Noteboom experiment might leave a bitter taste in their mouths.

Maybe ... I don't know but I don't equate Jackson to Noteboom.

The Rams only have three picks before the sixth round in 2025, and even secondary free agent OL can easily cost the $3M cap space created by releasing Jackson.

Will be interesting.

Fully agree with this.

Also, I think there is still a chance that Jackson could be the superior player to Limmer. It just wasn't a good idea to throw him in there with few reps coming off of injury.

Any move to bolster the depth through secondary free agency or draft would subtract from the $3.3 mil. saved by cutting him.

You can also accomplish your goal of getting the full cap space back in 2026 by making a move to trade or cut after the 2025 season. Those who are advocating keeping him are only saying to do so for the 2025 season - i.e. you're talking about two seasons rather than one season.
