A lot of reporters are saying there is a good chance the the NE cheaters might release Brandon Lloyd today to get out of paying him a $3mil dollar signing bonus.

If he becomes available, would you want the Rams to make a run at him?

I would.

MOD: TITLE EDIT. LLOYD RELEASED.

Re: If Brandon LLoyd Gets Released...

Absolutely. Veteran WR on this squad is needed.

Re: If Brandon LLoyd Gets Released...

I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on that one. But, out here in Patriots land, they all tend to believe that Lloyd will be playing with the Patriots next year. I don't think Lloyd or the Patriots are all that keen on ending the relationship quite yet.

Re: If Brandon LLoyd Gets Released...

I wonder if Brandon really wants to return to the Horns. If so, he would be one of the better veteran options since he runs decent routes and has good hands. He served a somewhat mentoring role before in his last time here, and he would undoubtedly be asked to reprise that role once more.

Re: If Brandon LLoyd Gets Released...

No.

Any veteran like that will want playing time and they need Brian Quick and Chris Givens to develop as fast as possible.

Agreed (at the right price)! I hated seeing him leave since he seemed to have such good chemistry with Bradford! I think he would be a great signing!

Re: If Brandon LLoyd Gets Released...

He's only been really good in a McDaniels offense, I dunno.

Re: If Brandon LLoyd Gets Released...

Good receiver, but the whole reason people are clamoring for a guy like Tavon Austin is because of the YAC potential. Brandon Lloyd's YAC is around 1-2 yards per catch. Oftentimes less than that even...

+1, I'll pass. Lloyd has good hands and can get separation but he seams to always go to the ground in the act of catching the ball or shortly thereafter.
0 YAC

Re: If Brandon LLoyd Gets Released...

The New England Patriots have released wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, the team announced Saturday.

Lloyd was due a $3 million roster bonus this weekend, and the expectation had been that the club would not pick it up. A source said the sides recently entered into talks on a restructured contract, although it's now apparent they could not strike a deal.

Lloyd was scheduled to earn a base salary of $1.9 million in 2013, which would have come with a salary cap charge of $4.9 million. The Patriots were open to keeping Lloyd with a reduced salary.

One of the team's starting receivers last season, Lloyd played in 84.8 percent of the offensive snaps and finished with 74 receptions for 911 yards and four touchdowns. It was Lloyd's first season in New England.

The Boston Herald earlier reported news of Lloyd's impending release.

Now that it's official; I would definitely kick the tires... although he turns 32 in July.

I say for the right price get him good leader and mentor for our young wr core

For the cheap yes I think he's solid and him and Sam seemed to have a really good connection especially with how little time they actually had to practice together.

Personally I don't see it happening.

I think the Rams use a first rounder on one.

... Only so many balls to go around if a 1st rounder is selected, plus Givens, plus Quick. Would feel crowded with Lloyd.

Now... If they want to pass on WR in the first; Lloyd makes sense.

Take him out to dinner a few times... he's not married so his wife won't have any input !!!

$2 mill a year with incentives and an option for next year. That way if or WR's grow up (maybe not the right term here) and we dont need him, let him go. JMHO

how much money do the Dolphins have left? If he doesnt end up here would love to see him there, just another weapon they need to knock NE off the throne of the NFCE

Unfortunately jake ate up our dinner budget lol

I like Lloyd and he definitely had a connection with Bradford when he was here. But I'm sure I read somewhere that he's a Diva and can be a poor teammate and it's Mcdaniels that keeps him on the straight and narrow.

On Brandon Lloyd:

[textarea]In today's story, I said the following about Lloyd:

Odds are against Brandon Lloyd’s $3 million option bonus being picked up. There is still a lot of internal debate about what to do considering the Patriots literally couldn’t line up tomorrow at receiver. Lloyd’s erratic behavior in the locker room and on the practice field proved tiresome, according to a league and team source. If they cut Lloyd, that would save the Patriots $4.9 million against the cap this season, though there will be $2 million in dead money that can be spread out over two years. The team was smart to build in protection with Lloyd.

Nobody should be surprised that we didn't hear anything about Lloyd's behavior during the season. The Patriots are the best at keeping a lid on things in-house during the season.

From what I know, I wouldn't say that Lloyd was a bad guy who the team must jettison or anything. It was just the type of up-and-down mood swings that we heard a lot about in his previous stops.
