I don't think any of us were ever confident in the two we have. The question though is why was McVay? To hear yesterday how hard he pushed for McCoy to go to Arizona made me sick. He is clearly better than both of our backups and with him at least maybe we had a shot yesterday. SMH.

I legitimately believe we have the worst back up QB in the league. I just looked at the preseason list, and I'd basically take all of the other teams back ups over ours. Even the freaking Panthers have 3 QB's I'd rather have backing up Stafford.

Agreed. mcVay had had 6 years to find a decent back up QB which he has completely failed at.

What I don’t understand is Wolford looked competent that year he took over for Goff ( I mean he had limitations obviously but he got things rolling some ) but I just can’t understand after all this time how he’s regressed so bad?

Has he just been collecting paychecks and doing just just enough to get by where he can stay on the team?

I don’t even know what to say honestly.

P.s. on the subject of Looking for a quality back up QB this upcoming draft is the one to do it in. Going to be interesting if we get one with all the other crazy holes we have now.

And not to mention his shitty throw to Kupp has probably put him out for quite some time.

Would a reporter ever ask " Coach, I know we are not in the QB room or on the practice field, but from our view it is pretty apparent that the two we have are not capable of leading this team. Any reason why you haven't tried to upgrade that position?

At cutdowns I said we should grab Cooper Rush and Jake Browning. Y'all ignored me, McVay too.

I think our team is just that much worse this year.

I think you all are focusing on a minor consideration for McVay.
I think McVay's main focus for back up QB's is to lead a scout offense, imitating upcoming opponents. I think that's why Wolfy and Perkins are here, because they offer different type QB styles for our defense to go against. They may be good imitators and McVay likes that. Before this year, most of us would have said losing Stafford means sure losses anyway and maybe McVay feels the same way, so why not have back up QB's that can help them win during most of the year. I know that right now with Stafford injured our focus shifts toward incompetent game day back ups. IF we spend our 2nd round pick next year on a back up QB, that will be a lost year too, imo. We need help on the Oline more than anything, to help Stafford stay upright....

Well , funny question. Who would you rather have ? Jalen Hurts or Cam Akers.

I thought Hurts would have fell to The Rams could have had Jalen Hurts who went right after Cam Akers. Johnathan Taylor was my pick & The Rams could have traded up to get him.

#41 for #52 & #58.

In preseason he always seemed to make things happen even with his limitations.
My recollection is that Perkins often had a knack for making spectacular 5 to 10 yard runs, sometimes in clutch situations. But it sure seemed like he never REALLY got the offense rolling... We'd score 10 or maybe 17 points, but never more than that.

Perkins has great balance and a terrific ability to make people miss. But as a thrower of the football, he just never impressed at all, in fact he looked decidedly not at the NFL level.

IMHO we need a new backup QB in 2023. I doubt either Wolford or Perkins will be the #2 QB with any team.

With a limited window with Stafford, Donald, Kupp, Ramsey, I go with option C. If memory serves, Hurts didn't do squat in the first two years, for whatever reason. We don't have more than two years with this core group, so get players that can maximize what we have.

Wolford never to me looked like a good QB. I saw a tweet yesterday and had to go back and watch the game to see and the guy was right for the most part. Wolford almost jumps into a throw and struggles to get any kind of zip on the ball.

He started 2 games and finished 1. The one he finished, he drove the offense to 4 FGs (but at least we won). The other one (in the p.s.) he was knocked out very early. We won that game also. But he has never looked like an NFL caliber backup to these eyes. Like many have suggested, McVay must see himself in Wolford but it's time he admitted that guy wasn't an NFL caliber QB either. Maybe Wolford will end up being a good coach!
