these friggin things are killing me. Pretty much immobile right now. Will feel good for 4-5 days and then BAM, I have to stop whatever I am doing because I cant move.

This morning started to clean out the wood stove, sweep the chimney and was going to load the truck for work tomorrow, but never even finished the chimney sweeping :(

Anyone else have to deal with this, and do you have any solutions?

Have you tried Acupuncture? I just started doing it and it seems to be working for shoulder and wrist spasms.

Thanks for the input tho (y)

First did it gradually come on from working, or is it the result of some sudden physical trauma? Also how long has it been going on?

maybe your shoulder and wrist spasms stopped because your Hustler subscription ran out?
Buh-dat-dah.

Actually, I found that it was covered by my insurance and my wife had pretty good success with it when nothing else was working. Mind you - she's had two back surgeries so it's not like she is only after alternative medicines. I went after my Orthopedic surgeon tried some non-surgical remedies that didn't do squat. It has taken most of the pain out of my shoulder and I can sleep at nights.

I know we actually have a couple doctors on here. Maybe they'll chime in.

It comes on suddenly but it is a recurring problem. As I said it seems to be every 4 or 5 days and I have never had back problems before

Do some workouts to strengthen the muscles and that will help you.......... work for my brother.

I have one of those chairs that has a heater and vibrates and also bought a shiatsu massage pad that fits on the chair. A few minutes sitting in that chair usually calms my back down when it wants to get out of whack.

Just not directly the lower back either....hamstrings and gluts.
Strengthening the butt can do a lot for the lower back....that and the abs and some rotational exercises.

i've been using the icy hot smart relief tens therapy . www.smartrelief.com is the website. tens is short for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. works for me however i'm not having back spasms, just tightness in my shoulder areas.

Hey man,,, sorry to hear about the back. I know how debilitating that is. I hesitate to say that I "USED" to have them because I don't want to jinx myself, but I'll tell you what seems to have cured them for me. I haven't had any issues now for more than a year, and I used to have them flare up constantly.

I never would have believed it if someone just told me this, but what worked for me was replacing my mattress with a super firm one. I didn't skimp on it either. Best fucking money I ever spent. It was like a miracle cure for me.

If you're interested in the model I got let me know.

Sometimes these muscle spasms are due to electrolytes being off balance. Being low in magnesium, potassium or calcium are well known factors. Next time try eating a banana and take a Tums (maybe a Rolaid that has magnesium)

thanks for all the input everyone

funny thing is I am fine today, not a bit of pain at all, and I was setting up pump jacks and staging all day. Got up this morning and did my usual stretches without feeling a thing !!!

I know we are due for a new mattress and will keep this advice in mind. Suppose a good thing to do is keep the damn dogs off the bed, since we are starting to get that nice depression in the middle LOL

Yeah firm mattresses are good for back issues. You could even get a sleep number (which is just a high end air mattress honestly) if your partner doesn't like a firm one

I'm telling you Man, I wouldn't have believed it was that big a deal until I tried it for myself.

There are ways to treat symptoms or treat cause , most back problems are a result of muscle imbalance ,try strengthening your abbs , it worked for me when I had a herniated disc that never had to have surgery ,work your core especially if you lift a lot.

As has been mentioned work on strengthening core and stretching, I use an inversion table as well and accupuncture when my back just doesnt respond to the stretching. Flexiril works great to calm the spasms once they have started, sometimes takes up to 4 in a 2 hr period.
